Great course
Great course some really interesting holes to make you think about your game only one thing that will make it better is when with have had some rain which the course really could do with
Hidden Gem
This course is really starting to look great. The fairways are well defined and although these fairways are tree lined, the green keepers have cut the grass between the trees so you have a chance to find your ball and to escape from this hazard. THe greens had been recently treated but they ran smoothly and the ball held the green on approach shots. The par threes are a real treat, three of the four are over water hazards and they look great from the tee box.
Well wort a visit, friendly staff and pleasant patio area by the 18th green to comtemplate what could have been :-)
Great course
Great course with some beautiful holes and some challenging holes. Could do with some signs on each hole showing layout for first timers as you used to have however overall great course
Disgraceful greens
What is usually an enjoyable and challenging round, the course is completely let down by the absolutely disgraceful condition of the greens. Most courses are carrying out maintenance on the greens at this time of year, but every other course manages to keep their greens playable. Park Wood's greens are the worst greens i can remember playing on- divots and holes everywhere, not even running remotely true. The club also seem happy to let people start on the 11th, regardless of holding up those playing through from the 10th. We had at least a 5 minute wait on every hole from 11th onwards.
Greens
For may the greens were poor, so many other golf clubs have amazing greens this time of year, so for £35 was very disappointing, was pointless taking a putter.
Park Wood - any good?
No, in short which is a real shame as it has the potential to be great. The only disappointing thing (and it’s so important) is that the greens are horrendous. I’ve played the course twice now and on both occasions I’ve ended up complaining to the Marshall about the state of them. They are so poorly kept you might as well chip instead of putt. The course layout and fairways are decent and when the suns shining they’re are some beautiful holes but don’t hold you breath for a nice rolling ball once you’re on the dance floor! Sort it out Park Wood, I know I’m not the only person complaining about them!!
Greens were very poor
It was a shame about the state of the greens because the layout was great and challenging and the fairways were in good condition
Potential....
The greens are honestly not very good at all in places, but they do get better as you go around. Also the course does need a trim in general, as the tee boxes are not well kept. HOWEVER, in saying that, it has been in much better condition, as I have played this course over the years and it just needs some TLC. The price also is really good, as we paid £25 for a round on a bank holiday at 13.00. For the price it is definitely worth a go.... Also, it is what me and my friends call, a real mans golf course.
Park Wood
Park Wood is a beautifully laid out course with interesting holes throughout. If they can get the greens in better condition it will easily be a favourite. Nice clubhouse with good food as well.
Very windy
We sourced this course through Golfnow and the three of us paid £20 each. We had a coffee in the clubhouse before teeing off and, although the lady that served us was very pleasant, I felt like we were in a work canteen, rather than a golf clubhouse.
The course itself was challenging purely because the wind blew through your round. The location of the course suggests this might be a common feature of golf at Park Wood, so if you like it calm, don’t go! The course itself had some interesting holes but was generally quite bland. We only saw two other golfers throughout our 4 hour round, so maybe the members knew that the wind would be more than just a zephyr on the day. The greens had just been tined and were quite sandy, though they did play true. The fairways could have down with a mow now that we’re in spring, but overall I may come back in the summer if only to see how this course plays in calm conditions, though I’d only come back on a deal.
