A Beautiful Starter Course Ruined
I began playing this course as a boy in the early 60s before moving on to 18 hole Erewash Valley a few years later. I later made a career of golf and was fortunate to win many international longdrive golf titles, coach, and design clubs. I always felt that the roots to such lay in Pewit. Although now living in Devon I first returned to play the course in 2011 on the day of an Ilkeston Grammar School reunion party. I was surprised to discover that the course had been completely ruined by layout re-design and neglect. I am unfamiliar with its recent history but surely in life the road to popularity is to improve not wreck? I weep at the news of its inevitable forthcoming demise. IVAN SANDERS
Played this course many times
The course is closed there clubhouse is being used as a bit of a youth center and the other facilities that was there are now gone you have no one to take your money or hand you a scorecard there is no flags to mark the holes the greens are not cut at all and the only reason the fairways are cut is because the public use it as a extension of the park itself the Erewash council did announce in the local papers that they were not funding this lose making course anymore you can take from that what you will the local golf members club house which is on the course is also closed as there is no course to really play on anymore a real shame as it was a nice little 9 hole course which was always very busy so i wouldn't really book any tee time for this course until the whole mess is sorted out with it
Poor condition
Even though we had a tee off time booked, we had to wait for a competition to end before we could start our round. The course was in a poor condition - greens were patchy, bobbly and weedy, fairways boggy. The green fees were cheap, but we felt that we had wasted our money.
