Avoid
We booked in for 8am. Everything was closed, we were told by the grounds staff, “the pro doesn’t turn up until 8:30/9am”
We were not informed the first 5 holes were closed.
Due to the pro not being bothered to turn up to open the shop, we didn’t have a card for the course to navigate around.
Members also like to play right up your back and bomb you as you
Try to clear greens.
Don’t bother booking this course. Save your money.
Good course, poor communication
On the course website, it states the course is open. However, upon arrival we were told all 18 holes are temporary greens. There was no 9th temporary green and no hole on the green of which we were not told. Surprisingly the course was very dry, so couldn’t understand why all greens were shut. There was a member practising across 2 fairways, hitting 20-30 balls into the fairway the whole time we were playing.
All said, good course and can imagine great on a summers day with the greens open.
strategy off the tee required
Short by modern standards but the green complexes are superb and the constant elevation changes make judgement of distance essential. Greens are also tricky with borrows reminiscent of Cavendish which is another Mackenzie course.
Would play again & hopefully par the 18th next time round!
Hidden Little Gem
My first time playing the course. An amazing course and will definitely be back. Thank you for the hospitality too.
Nice to find a course that drains so well.
Very enjoyable. My course has been closed for weeks due to rain, but no problem at all here. Some nice holes as well.
Lovely course - poor winter greens.
Honest review for a first time player of the course.
We booked the course late, the night before our round. When we arrived - slightly later than our tee time due to traffic. The course was shut. If it wasn’t for a friendly green keeper. We wouldn’t of got into the car park.
When the guy in the shop finally turned up. About half an hour after we were meant to tee off. He told us ‘a few holes’ were on winter greens due to the weather. The first five holes were all winter greens. Horrendous ones at that. It’s like they literally dumped a flag on the fairway. Wasn’t cut, terrible locations. If it wasn’t for a green keeper saying there is only one more winter green, we would’ve left.
From holes 6-18. There were 3 more winter greens. Again, horrendous but the other holes played really well to be fair.
For a first time player, the course is fairly straight forward to follow until you get to hole 10 I think it was were the signage is poor leading you to the next hole. Also, after hole 16. It’s a bit of walk all the way back to the 17th tee box.
It was a shame hole 18 was on a winter green. As I’ve never seen a hole quite like it.
Spoke to a few members as our round was coming to a close who were really friendly and also annoyed at the state of the winter greens.
I’ll definitely be back in the summer. Even if it’s just to play the eighteen hole. But if you’re looking for a winter course. I’d definitely ring up before you play. Just to see what condition it’s in.
Quality Course
Reddish Vale is probably the best course I've played for £35. Tee boxes are superbly kept. Fairways are even and cut very well. The rough is fair. Bunkers have the correct amount of sand. The greens run true. Wow wow wow. Hats off to the course maintenance team. Thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon knock. Will definitely be playing here again!
Superb overall
Course in great condition, and no two holes the same. A hidden gem.
Winter golf
The course was in amazing conditions, especially since there had been alot of rain.
A few temporary greens but all in all, great lay out and a challenge.
Beautiful Course
Played here for the first time, and really enjoyed. Was surprised there was not many others playing!
Could do with more signage around to show where the tee’s are!
An absolute Gem, will definitely play again.
This course is a hidden gem. The layout and styling of the course is superb, no two holes are the same and the variety always offers interest. The sculpting of mounds and undulations of green side areas and fairways makes for a really stunning course. Overall condition is great and the greens are superb. 5-6 holes are exceptional. Probably my favourite course.
Challenging
Plenty of challenges on this course. Front few holes aren't the best... but once you get to the back section its different standard.
Greens were fantastic and true. Bunkers were great.... Worth going in...
Save some energy for the 18th!
Great day on the course
I booked Reddish Vale after playing Cavendish another MacKenzie designed course. Reddish Vale is an interesting course set in undulating terrain with several blind summits and plently of raised greens. I played on a bank holiday and although it was fairly busy the pace of play was good. The greens are quite flat with suttle breaks and kept in good condition. Staff in the pro shop were very friendly and helpful. It could do with some signs in place to direct to the next hole as its not always obvious but apart from that this is an excellent course, well worth the visit.
