Wide open course
Very forgiving off the tees. Slow greens. Bunkers were not up kept. Some patches on the greens.
Goodwin is finally BACK in shape!!!
The city of Hartford disposed of MDM Golf Management, they had run the course into sever despair with a total lack of maintenance of any kind. Some greens were literally dead brown grass and dirt at that time.
I played in the Fall of 2014, after a new management company was put into place. The course was still pretty poor, but it had improved a bit.
Well, as of this Spring 2015, Goodwin is almost restored to its former self. The greens and fairways are remarkably improved, you can tell that care if being put into this course, its on track to be a very nice municipal course again this year. Just give it a few more months of care by the staff and you'll want to play here!
Surprisingly in good shape
We played 18 and had a cart. For the most part the course is in very good shape. There were a few tee boxes that were in repair. All the fairways were in great shape. Since I landed in the bunkers, some were being repaired but most were raked and had plenty of good sand. The greens were true and in very good condition for this time of the year.
Ok for the price
Better conditions with improvements but still needs work.
Goodwin park
Course has come a long way. Greens are in great shape compared to other courses this year so far.
Wrong Picture
Don't be fooled by the beautiful picture on the website. Unfortunately that is not Goodwin, which is located in a residential area surrounded by houses. Those mountains in the background are out west somewhere.
Anyways.
I learned to play golf at "Goodie," as it is known locally, 40 years ago. It was inexpensive and easy. There are 27 holes: the flat, North nine and the South 18. Last year the course management changed after being mismanaged for 5 years and the course went into disrepair. In 2014 new management took over and they are starting to bring it back. The course itself is owned by the City of Hartford.
Don't expect pristine conditions yet, but given time Goodie should rebound. We had a long, cold winter and many courses are still dealing with the after effects. I recommend this course with reservations.
In spite of the previous bad reviews I feel the new managers of Goodie should be given a chance to bring it back to it old glory days and change the picture too.
Course is fairly open. Lots of water for challanging holes.
Paid for 18. The weather was pretty rainy. The gentlemen in charge was nice enough to give me vouchers for 9 w/ cart since we didn't play all 18. As for pace, I can't really give an accurate time figure since it was bad weather and we were probably the only ones playing due to intermittent pouring rain.
Mowed the grass
Yes, The course is in bad shape---But at least they have mowed the grass. Not as bad as I was expecting.
Half the greens in pitiful shape--the other half not bad.
This is really typical shape for this course over the past 10 years.
Old time muni
Inexpensive course to practice your game greens not great but fairways ok and layout is interesting
This course is in dire need of repair
This course needs work on all of its holes. the tee boxes are non-existent, the greens are mostly all blighted, the fairways are rutted, and the roughs are overgrown. They are as much as 6 inches in some areas. If you don't hit the fairway you have to spend a lot of time looking for your ball, which may have only been a few feet into the rough.
Worst Condition Ever........
In my 20+ years of playing golf this worst condition I have ever seen a golf course. The greens are rock hard with no grass and you can't putt on them at all. It is an absolute shame what has happened to this course. If I was management I would be embarassed to collect money from customers.
Course was not maintained
Fairways were wet with some poor drainage. Many of the
greens were burnt out, while others were overgrown with
crab grass. The course is not being well kept up.
going downhill
I grew up on this course and to see the fair ways not cut evenly, 20 to 30 feet dry patches, burnt patches on the greens is very discouraging. My friend and I have declare goodwin as off limits going forward. We will miss it.
DO NOT PLAY HERE!!!!
I booked a hot deal and only paid $10 for 18 and that wasn't even worth it. Course is in the worst condition I have ever seen and there were only 2 staff members on a Saturday afternoon. The greens had no grass on them, the bunkers had grass growing in them, and the tee boxes where made of dirt and rocks. I've been playing here for the last 10 years and ever since this new management company bought out this course, Gillette Ridge, Long Hill, Minnechaug and others. All these courses have gone down the drain and I would not recommend playing any of them. It's pretty sad to see because I loved this course for it's price. We need not to play here and maybe they will bring good ol' Goody back.
An embarrassment for the city of Hartford
I have been playing this course for over 40 years and never seen course conditions as bad as they were. Tee boxes all dirt, greens chopped up, fairways horrendous. Price good but too bad city and course management can not get this right.
Has potential-nice layout
Obviously the price is right for the product being offered if booked on with reduced rates. Absolutely not worth $32.00 for an 18 hole round. Tee boxes- are patchy and bare in many spots. All it would take is a little soil and seed to level off the areas. Tee markers are placed where all the bare spots are and grass areas are not used??? Fairways- are in decent shape and are filling in nicely. Roughs- deep and very uneven cuts. Sand traps- I can't even describe the poor maintenance and rakes are scarce. Greens- patchy, cut unevenly and super slow and grainey but filling in slowly on their own ( with very little care). I am disappointed that there have been times when water coolers where not full or paper cups where not provided. Management doesn't care much about this course and takes no pride in what it provides for the customers. The desk staff are barely polite but at least they are providing the minimum of service. To say they are dismissive may be a bit strong but I don't feel warm and fuzzy when dealing with them.
Awful course
I've played at Goodwin for the past 7 years - this is by far the worst shape that I've ever seen at any golf course. The greens were the worst thing that I've ever putted on. We got a deal thru golfnow for $23 and that wasn't even worth it. I wouldn't go back and play Goodwin for free - the amount of frustration that you experience when you try to putt on these greens isn't worth it. And to think that they usually charge $40 for a round is insane - if you want to try it out for free, hit up their putting practice green... that's actually in better shape than the greens on the course and even that is in awful shape.
This course is in terrible shape!! Extremely wet. 15 of the 18 tee boxes have no grass. The greens were poor. Some of them did not even have grass o
Completely awful!!! Not worth any price to pay ever
Has Potential
It is a course that has the potential but the greens just need a lot of tender loving care. Not really kept properly. There are only a very few that are decent but the 3rd and 9th holes are just totally an embarrassment. I hope they make these greens better...
Wide open course, no long holes. fairways in good shape.
Tee boxes and greens need a lot of work. Don't know if I would play again soon.
