What Greens?
Goodwin is a nicely laided out muni in Hartford but man, they have problems with thier greens. When we got there we couldn't use the practise green because they were spraying it with fungicide. Turns out they have been neglecting a dollar spot infestation on their greens. They are horrible. Some were almost 70% baked dirt. I would say it will take them at least one year to get them into shape and that would require a lot of work. I'm not sure they can do it. The rest of the course was just ok. Not bad, not spectacular.
Hey , for $11 on Golf now I shouldn't complain.
Terrible condition
Horrible tee boxes--white/blue are dirt; red in the middle of rough.
Most greens are dirt, no sand in traps, the rough is weeds.
They need to privatize to improve condtion of course.
Practice area--mats have deteriorated and no tees
Although it wasn't busy, it took over 5 hours to play--wide open for the foursome in front of us--no ranger in sight to speed up play.
Goody needs some TLC
Fairways and first cut rough were pretty good and that's about it. Greens were pretty poor on most holes, horrible on a couple, and good on few. I was fortunate to stay out of the sand all day, but the bunkers looked pretty unkempt as well.
That said, not totally bad for the money, and this course has potential if it gets some attention and care. It is a nice course layout with a lot of forgiving fairways. I will play it again as I assume it can only get better...
Good value, well kept
Play at Goodwin many times per year and the course is always kept clean, tee boxes are not the best but they have been improving the course every year. Not one of the top courses in the state but a great place to play.
Used to be great value
Last vear the course was in decent shape and a great value for the Golf Now price you could get. Yesterday the front 9 was in poor condition and the majority of front 9 greens were worse than poor shape. I know weve had a 10 day drought but there looked to be no maintainence at all on front 9. Back 9 was a much different story. All fairways and greens were in nice condition but all teeboxes on course were rock hard and littered with broken tees. $19 for 18 w/cart before noon on Saturday is reason I would recommend to anyone.
This course is really challenging and fun to play for a public course.
I know it's the beginning of the golf season. But the greens need some immediate attention. I enjoy the course and the prices aren't bad if your retired .
Loosing ground
I've played this course several times a year for the last 5 seasons and it was always an enjoyable walk and the the staff was always courteous and helpful. This is the worst course I have played so far this year. Overall condition is poor. Fairways rutted either by equipment or runoff. Greens are hard and burnt but not that fast. Bunkers are a crapshoot some have actual sand and some are hardpack. Several tee boxes are just dirt. Even at the beginning of last season the course was well maintained but today it was not good.
Good layout
I have played this course a couple years ago and it was in much better shape. This is a nice old school course and has alot to offer for the PRICE. If you can get the good deals they offer on golfnow, it is well worth it. I played in the end of april so the course was still transforming from winter conditions, etc. I will be returning in the summer for another goodwin expierence.
course has been poorly maintained for many years and the results are cumulative
many tee boxes have no grass. Most players have no respect for course and divots and ball marks are abundant. Course is closest to me but I never play no matter how easy to get out, price, etc. Worst conditioned course I've ever seen in Connecticut.
