Formerly known as Columbia Lakes Resort & Conference Center. Tall Texas oak trees covered in moss, dogleg fairways, lagoons, and winding, clear-blue lakes highlight the golf course on this 2,000-acre resort. Many of the holes have been nominated as some of the most difficult in Houston, including the 533-yard fifth, which doglegs right around a lake that impacts play on every shot. No. 18, a long par 4, requires a perfect drive to the right side of the fairway in order to have a chance to fire away at the long approach. This approach must carry water and avoid the overhanging trees, and the green is extremely shallow, less than 50 feet deep. Tom Fazio redesigned this impressive resort course in the early 1980s. It was his first assignment.

Continually getting better
I have played this course several times and they are making vast improvements over how it was over the last few years.
Great Course
Great course, greens and fairways are maintained very well. Pace I play was good for a weekday. Great Value for Money.
Beautiful Property
This course is on such a beautiful piece of property. Huge oak trees line the fairways and you have to carve your tee shots through them. It's a great course design.
Sadly the place has seen better days. It seems the resort has lost it's appeal (the golf was the main attraction so without a great course hard to justify vacationing there). I assume without the resort guests the golf course itself doesn't do enough business in green fees to keep the place profitable. I heard the new owner asked the members and residents to contribute to some of the upkeep. The last time I was there some of the members were edging the grass next to the 16th hole. It's unfortunate that the place has been reduced to this but I commend the members for their dedication.
Hopefully the members and owners can turn the place around because it is a wonderful layout. Despite some of the greenskeeping issues mentioned by other reviewers I would still recommend playing the course for it's layout and beautiful, peaceful setting.
Very peaceful place to play
This course has a nice layout. Water hazards and sand traps bring challenge but the course was a very fair test of golf. I thoroughly enjoyed the round.
Greens need maintenance.
This is one of the older courses in Texas. Overall it was very challenging, but needed work on their greens. They were super slow and varied in depth as far as the grass was concerned. There were grass clipping on each green suggesting they were freshly cut and were not swept clean. I still would recommend this course based on how pretty it was, and would definitely go back and play it again.
Course is in nice shape. Staff is very friendly.
Really pleasant staff. Course in pretty good shape. Keep ball in fairway. Very deep rough.
Greens in pretty good shape a little slow do to recent rain.
In the best shape I've seen in years. Will definitlbe playing there Again!
The course was in very good condition and the staff was great.
The greens were the best I have seen them in years. Even with all the heat there was plenty of grass on the fairways and the rough was well maintained.
The staff was super friendly.
The course was in a lot better shape
The greens were in the best shape they have ever been in. The fairways were good as well. The bunkers need work but not bad overall.
Good golf value
Best condition and
Maintenance in 5 years. Greens in best shape ever
A horrible golf experience!!!
Columbia Lakes is a great disappointment!!! I would not recommend the outside public to play the course or staying there. The clubhouse restroom had roaches and mosquitoes. There fairways are poorly maintained. Crabgrass is all over the fairways and tee boxes. I have never seen St. Augustine grass on tee boxes like holes 10 and I believe 15. It is a shame that Tom Fazio's name is associated with this golf course. With proper management, the clubhouse and the golf course would be a desirable place to play. This golf course is a landscaping nightmare. Golf Channel should develop a TV show called Course Rescue (i.e. Bar Rescue on SPIKE TV) because this place needs it bad!!! This is a dying course with old members.
A great J Riviere design.
Columbia Lakes has improved greatly since our last visit about 18 months ago. It looks as if everyone has taken pride in the appearance of their homes, yards, and most importantly, the golf course. They still have a way to go, but we should tip our hats to them. David
Peaceful course
This is a nice and quiet neighborhood course that winds through trees and homes. The clubhouse has a cool old bar and restaurant, although they're not always open.
Needs a lot of TLC.
Course just went under new management Nov 1, 2012 and it needed that! This course has great potential with upkeep. Tight fairways bordered with beautiful oaks demand precise tee shots. Many holes are well protected by water and bunkers. Very small greens with a lot of undulation. Hopefully new management can get this course back into a playable condition. As it is, the green fees are way overpriced, would only recommend to a friend to play at the discounted rates.
Course is worth $10.00greenfee/cart
This course was once of the best in Texas when owned by Tenneco. It has steadily gone down hill. Bunkers have mud in them. Lakes on the course are low and slimy. Greens are hard, patched with some sand, and water damaged. Maintenance les than minimal. It is in a sad state. Groupon running a promotion which is an outright lie about condition of the course. Some old members are running the place. Weeds everywhere.
Course is in need of someone who cares about the greens and maintain basic features!
I first went to the clubhouse which reminds me of caddy shack with no updating in last 30 years! I then proceed to pro shop and get ready to play a round but want to warm up at the range. I receive token for the range balls but nothing happens! I ask pro shop attendant and he states they are out of balls so I ask where do I get balls? He laughs and says they don't have any.... I am upset but determined not to ruin my round today. Each green I played had patches where there was dirt with no green, ball washers w no towels or missing the handle for the plungers. This course is in such disrepair that management should be ashamed!!! A great layout if maintained but definitely not worth playing until they make repairs and fire the existing staff!!! I left after 9 holes and played a different course..... What a disappointment for a fazio designed course!
This course is in need of some desperate attention.
The greens are barren and the rough is sooo long it doesn't seem its been cut all summer. Mosquitos are terrible. All in all a 1 out of 5.
Good course to play
I was late in getting there, The staff was very nice and was alright with being late, Not many people on the course, in good shape.
