Greenkeepers have gone above and beyond
Despite the heavy rain and all other courses being closed in the Rutland area. Woolfox fairways and greens are as good as ever. Highly recommend.
nice little course
the course played very well considering the amount of rain recently . a good course for golfers who wish to play 18 holes but do not want to take all day about it .
New design shows promise, needs distance markers
Have played here many times over the years. Course has been redesigned in last two years, with another redesign on the way for a couple of holes. These changes are to be welcomed, and clearly a lot of money has been spent on the new facilities, etc. One thing that's still needed, and would really help those who haven't played here before, is distance markers on the par 4s and 5s. Prior to the changes, there were plastic markers in the fairways at 200, 150 and 100 yds, however most of these were destroyed by mowers. Even simple painted wooden posts by the side of the fairway would be an improvement.
Otherwise, course in good condition. Greens very good. Some tee boxes are in need of levelling out and returfing, but otherwise a good course for all standards of golfer.
Fantastic course but poor pace of play
Played here a few times and absolutely love this course only problem is apart from 1 time every other time I've played here I have been caught up behind a 4 ball from the 3rd hole and waited on every tee box players just did not want to let us play thru even thou we were a 2 ball it's the only bad thing I can say about the course.
Woolfox
Impressed with the carpark and driving range, very nice. Tee boxes are poor very patchy and bare in places. General condition of fairways and rough good, bunkers were nice and greens looked like they could of been ok but had some work done to them for end of season maintenance, Generally a nice layout and a decent track but NEEDS the stroke indexes sorting out they are all inaccurate and wrong, looks like layout has changed but indexes have not, Stoke 1 is a 150 yard par 3.
Still doing work on new cabins for staying there
Course in good condition, where they are building new cabins for staying there, they have changed corse layout, which has changed all stroke indexes,I found myself 2 par3s very easy holes, with wrong stroke indexes received 2 shots on them but definitely did not need them on those holes, but would recommend this course,to everyone
New Development progressing nicely
Always a pleasure to play at Woolfox. Greens and fairways in great condition. Drains very well.

Would come back in 5 years when the course has matured.
Limited facilities in clubhouse but potentially a good location.
Bedding in well, needs a little more to make it better
Used to be a member here and played over 100 times.
Course was redesigned in 21/22 with new lakes and a couple of holes were added, replacing holes lost to leisure facilities. Played on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Hot Deal price was £19.99.
New layout of course is now bedding in well. Planting around lakes is getting there. The new holes are also fine.
Tee boxes were generally poor, not especially level and with poor grass condition.
Greens were quite furry, that might just be down to the mowing schedule. Fairways were mostly fine. Some holes have always had drainage issues, and even in July, there were still some soggy areas.
Old course had embedded distance markers. Most of those were destroyed over the years by mowers and what's left remains in place. Fairway marking is therefore pretty much absent It wouldn't take much to either replace them or to bang in some painted stakes at 150 yds from the greens. Would be a great help for those not used to the course.
Facilities in the clubhouse are basic, however there is a more pricey Fika cafe in the leisure complex (along with pool, spa and more). Currently building some lodges/houses next to the 1st tee and more money being spent is a good sign.
A great course
We really enjoyed our first round here whilst on holiday in the area. Wide fairways but some challenging rough and some craters as bunkers. Being new it would have been helpful to have the course map on the playing card although there was one hanging up at reception you could photograph. However it was easy to navigate.
Much Improved
Having not played Woolfox since summer 2022 I didn’t know what to expect. Previously the greens had holes in them and the course was bedding in after a lot of change. On this visit the course was in great shape with greens in good condition. Only things to let the course down were the tee boxes on some holes and the lack of signage to tell you where to go.
While the addition of the health club and Fika cafe are good additions, they add very little value to those that want to golf and have a social drink after. The range has a bar but lacks any real atmosphere and can only seat a few indoors with a few benches outdoors.
Overall would recommend the course but still needs some work to create the atmosphere at other clubs in the area.
Woolfox
Course new layout v.good but stroke indexes need looking at as stroke index 1 is a short par 3 and index 3 is a short par 3 meaning half decent 20 and ove get 2 shots on them.
Huge potential- just needs distance markers!
You can see this course is being developed- i love the layout. It was very windy and cold, so challenging but still really enjoyable.
As others have mentioned, get some distance markers out ASAP! The course doesn't seem to be updated with the usual apps so its so difficult to judge.
Drainage Problems
Obvious changes to the layout, I don’t think the golf course is the owners priority. They must have done something to the drainage, very boggy on front nine, even at the highest point of the course. The back nine was better but some attention needs to be paid to the bunkers and greens. The golf course is a valuable asset, they need to invest in it.
The same but not….
Previously played over 15 years ago when it was known as Rutland and County. The course was quiet and as we were earlier than booked we were allowed to tee off. Facilities have been worked upon over the years and the now purpose built club cafe and driving range were modern with a shop stocking essentials only. Excellent coffee served from here and the range was well stocked and plenty of bays to choose from.
We both turned up with Garmin watches with the course identified however the course played did not appear to correspond with the information so please be warned, pick up a course card until these things are updated.
The course itself was well drained, some roll on fairways and receptive greens. Putting surfaces were bumpy and Pitt’s often looked good in the air! However bobbles aside the greens were pretty true if slightly unevenly paced.
The course itself is reasonably short in winter and fairly open, there are however good walks green to tee so expect to get your steps in.
Once the course changes are complete and the course information updated etc. this will be a very pleasant round in not especially challenging surrounds, we enjoyed it but it does need a breeze to protect it as a good short game will lead to low scores.
Worth a visit if the description above sounds like the sort of golf you enjoy.
