Drainage Problems
Obvious changes to the layout, I don’t think the golf course is the owners priority. They must have done something to the drainage, very boggy on front nine, even at the highest point of the course. The back nine was better but some attention needs to be paid to the bunkers and greens. The golf course is a valuable asset, they need to invest in it.
The same but not….
Previously played over 15 years ago when it was known as Rutland and County. The course was quiet and as we were earlier than booked we were allowed to tee off. Facilities have been worked upon over the years and the now purpose built club cafe and driving range were modern with a shop stocking essentials only. Excellent coffee served from here and the range was well stocked and plenty of bays to choose from.
We both turned up with Garmin watches with the course identified however the course played did not appear to correspond with the information so please be warned, pick up a course card until these things are updated.
The course itself was well drained, some roll on fairways and receptive greens. Putting surfaces were bumpy and Pitt’s often looked good in the air! However bobbles aside the greens were pretty true if slightly unevenly paced.
The course itself is reasonably short in winter and fairly open, there are however good walks green to tee so expect to get your steps in.
Once the course changes are complete and the course information updated etc. this will be a very pleasant round in not especially challenging surrounds, we enjoyed it but it does need a breeze to protect it as a good short game will lead to low scores.
Worth a visit if the description above sounds like the sort of golf you enjoy.
Good course, needs markers
Great Course but lacks any yardage markers. As soon as they are implemented I would play more often.
A venue that is taking shape.
Although facilities are sparse at the moment while the development work is going on we still enjoyed our round
Potentially great
Played the course for the first time, unfortunately it was a windy day(not the courses fault!), as the kayout is very open and exposed it made it a bit of a challenge. There has obviously been a great deal of investment in course development with large scale groundwork alterations(lakes/water features)when this has had a couple of years to mature I think the course will be stunning. The 18th was a highlight and the 2nd T over water was impressive.
The fairways were in great condition considering all the rain we have had recently and the greens are nice and challenging. All in all a good round and will definitely return.
2 years of playing this course
I've been playing this course for 2 years now. For me and our 4ball its one of the best courses to play in winter. Fairways are in good condition and the greens are holding up really well. We've played several courses over the winter and woolfox is in the best condition. Takes 3 hours to complete with buggies. The complex is under renovation and will be a superb venue when it's finished. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Looking to become a member very soon hopefully the prices are reasonable.
Nice course
Paired up with another 2 which worked in our favour as one of them knew the layout..nice course friendly staff, would definately play it again
Good course but needs markers
It’s a fairly decent course kept in good condition but it’s crying out for yardage markers. I was guessing all the way round how far was left. First golf course I’ve been to which doesn’t have them.
I had played there a few times before but they had changed the layout of the course and it was difficult trying to find the 3rd hole it took us around 8 minutes to find they need to have better signs to where the next tee is.
Hidden Gem!!
New layout to the front 9 has made a difference, once the course has bedded in, greens and tees settled, ponds are filled and clubhouse completed this will be a great golf course!
Slightly slow play this particular morning, more bad luck than anything.
COMPETITIVE THREESOME
Although the course and facilities are undergoing major developments at the moment we were still able to play a competitive and enjoyable game. The greens were ok and the fairways played very well. Look forward to playing at Woolfox when all the work is complete.
Not sure on new layout
Firstly, we turned up but weren't told that the course had changed. Walked to the old 1st tee where building works were being planned out. Had to ring clubhouse to find out where to go. Would be a good idea to put signs up telling people where to go. Much preferred the old layout of course, but things change and am sure we'll get used to it. Obviously the club need to get the course updated on all GPS platforms, but would be good to put 100 & 150yd stakes on new holes for the time being
Work in progress
I've played this course on numerous occasions, alway greeted by friendly staff. The course and clubhouse is undergoing major changes which will improve the club and course. Thoroughly enjoyed the day as usual + no waiting. Will be back soon
