Playing Upper Sapey, with a view to join.
I have played Upper Sapey many times before, in general the course was in an acceptable condition. However there was lots of clumped grass all over the fairways and even more in the semi and rough. I have seen the course in a better presented condition, asthelically it was rough in parts. The green also looked to have been directly overseeded, thus creating lines to put acrooss, causing deviation. I will play again and give it another chance.
RIP Sapey Golf Club
Unfortunately this is the worst I have ever seen the course and quite possibly the worst state I have ever seen a course. The greens are not for for purpose and to be charging £30-£45 is beyond laughable.
Whilst it is understandable to have been hard to maintain during all the wet weather, the course should have been a) closed and b) if you are going to be charging people to play then £10 seems about right. Some serious work needs to be done to get the course back to its usual standard for the summer. See below pictures of the "greens"

Great condition
Great condition for the time of year greens especially
Shame the mowers are on strike
Sadly the fairway grass far too long and the rough was brutal. Lost balls which trickled into rough because it was so long. Loafs of divots and dead grass on fairways. Last time I played 2 years ago it was lovely but now very shabby
Friendly Golf Club
Having played Sapey on many ocassoins, but I must say I am little disappointed with the overall course condition.
The bunkers could do with some new sand and there are weeds growing in the compacted sand.
There is loose grass all over the course and appears not to be collected during the cutting process.
With this in mind its always a nice place to play golf and always receive a friendly welcome.
A little disappointed
We have been playing Sapey for quite a few years and find the course condition is not as good during the last few months.
The fairways appear to have been left to long and there are grass cuttings left all over the course. It really makes it difficult to find your ball when it gets hidden under all the loose grass.
It really does make the course look very untidy and actually slows the place of play when having to keep searchingbthrough the loose grass to find your ball.
A fair challenge
Course was in good condition with fairways cut fairly and greens challenging. Staff at the course were welcoming and we were able to get out early. Course was quiet, bet when we caught up with a 4 ball on the 10th hole, which started over an hour before us, they wouldn't let us pass, which was frustrating. Bunkers were firm, but consistent throughout the course, although could do with raking and more sand. An enjoyable day out.
Very enjoyable course
Very friendly club in the heart of beautiful countryside.
A shorter track but the course design makes up for that with plenty of strategically placed hazards, narrow fairways and technically challenging holes.
I will definitely return to play another day.
A very friendly gf club
As always a great day at Sapey. The staff are always welcoming and really enjoy playing a course that's in great condition, apart from the bunkers that really do need new sand.
Sapey GC
Excellent (quiet) course in fantastic condition. Members and staff very friendly. Very enjoyable!
Return Visit
Another great day at Sapey. The course is in excellent condition and a friendly welcome as always.
Recommend
Always enjoyable to play Sapey. The course is in great condition and a very friendly approach from everyone associated with the club.
One small point, the bunkers could do with more sand.
Poor greens
Exceptional location
Fairways and first cut spot on.
Greens very disappointing. Overall though a lovely course to tackle. Rate of play was really poor.
Great Location
Sapey is always a joy to play and everyone is really friendly. The only issue we experienced was the lack of sand in the bunkers, but apart from that would highly recommend for a visit.
Beautiful course set in the Herefordshire countryside
Lovely course with lots of tree lined fairways and greens. Some challenging greens but overall just a really pleasant golf course to play. Looking forward to returning in the near future.
