Carrying fairway mats but still good value
The first time I have ever carried a fairway mat with me for a whole round, a restriction to protect the fairways. You could have the option of placing any fairway lies into the semi. Fairways actually looked in good condition although the whole course was muddy. Greens were great and fast and true even though the course was wet. Windy day that affected the 7 cliff side holes, layout reasonably interesting. Mats on all the tees but still very good value for money. Everyone very friendly.
Blown Away!
Arrived at the course to find I'd booked the wrong day, but thanks to great customer service by Sean in the Pro Shop, we were able to play at the time we booked.
The course was in good shape, nice fairways and tricky greens made more difficult by the very strong wind. A slight disappointment were the bunkers, which were compacted by recent rain.
The course was very quiet, we only saw about four other groups.
We did not try the clubhouse but would love to return and play in better weather.
Unusually slow play
Played as a single on a Saturday afternoon got through 2 3 balls ok.
Got let through by a 2 ball but ended up joining them ……… cheers Steve and Paul.
The 4 ball in front must have had a lot of money on the outcome that’s all I can say!
To be fair though they were being held up too.
On the last hole there we’re 4 groups playing!
Steve the member I went round with said it’s the busiest he’s ever seen it.
The course was in excellent condition and the views made the slow play ok.
Nice reception from the pro-shop.
All in all a good day.
Best coastal course in Yorkshire
Highly underrated course. Far better than North Cliff.
Family 2-ball
Came to play here on a lads weekend (just 2 of us). Really friendly & helpful pro. Let us get out 45 mins early. It was a beautiful day with hardly any wind. We loved our round. Views when you cross the road are stunning. It’s a good track with plenty of variety & in places quite open so can really hit driver with no fears. Everyone was really friendly & the terrace overlooking the course is a great place to enjoy a nice beer after your round. It was medal day when we played so some tricky pin positions.
Would definitely come back. Hopefully on a still calm day as it could be brutal in parts in the wind.
Coastal treat
Every year we treat ourselvess to a trip to a coastal golf course in the east coast, this year we chose Scarborough South Cliff and what a lovely course it is, part parkland and part links it’s the best of both worlds, friendly staff and members who were happy to chat and were justly very proud of their course.
The course was in really good condition and the greens were great. Unfortunately followed a group of 8 who had absolutely no idea and no etiquette and resulted in us waiting on every shot from the 2nd tee and a 5 hour round for us as a 2 ball.
Fabulous visit
Great course with stunning sea views on the front 9 and fabulous greens, great steward in the clubhouse serving a lovely pint of Madri & tasty sandwich afterwards.
Very enjoyable
Really liked the sea cliff top holes 4 through to 11.
Played on hottest day of year, course was relatively empty, good experience on a hot day
Fantastic
Love this course, scenery amazing, course beautiful and the staff are helpful & friendly
Ruined by pace of play
No fun for a two ball
Spent most of round having chipping competitions on tee whilst four balls spent ages looking for balls in knee high rough
South Cliff
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon great course great location really good all round course.
Delightful round
The course has a great layout on the cliffs below Scarborough. It was interesting & challenging, a traditional, well maintained property.. one suggestion - call ahead to reserve a buggy. It is a long walk & the day we played all buggies were booked. We’re pretty fit but felt it by the end of the round.
Helpful staff & a nice terrace for a pint afterwards.
Great little course
Really fun course, some tricky little holes that require plotting your way round. Most the fairway bunkers aren’t really in play off yellows, but not the end of the world.
Course was really firm and quite tough on a breezy day. Greens were slow but in great condition and rolling true.
Will certainly be returning.
