Best the course has been

Now the clubhouse & restaurant/bar are open it is so much better looking off the course than the old council ran course reception was.

The greens are better than they've been in years and the layout helps getting Mount St Helen's out of the way first as that walk up the hill used to kill you for that hole mid round.

Very poor greens

The greens are the only thing that lets this course down,
I hope they have plans to sort them out as they are unplayable.
The course closes at 20:00, although this app lets you book 18holes right into 19:00.

Potential

The first thing I think I should mention in this review is that this course, clubhouse and surrounding area is undergoing a lot of work. The layout of the course has changed, now you start on what use to be the 13th and complete the six holes up the hill. You then come down and play what use to be the 11th and 12th, then back up to the first to finish the round. For me this seemed to be unnecessary because there was nothing wrong with the old lay out. So onto the course itself, in particular the greens, or should I say the sand flats. Several holes consisted of sand and the smallest amount of grass I think I have ever seen on a green. After marking my ball and replacing it I was constantly putting out of a small divot made by replacing my ball, as if it had landed plug in a bunker, obviously not to that extreme but you get my point. Several trees have been removed from the course and some undergrowth had been removed, which made the course look more appealing. It is clear that the management want to improve the course but I do question if these improvements have been thoroughly thought out or they are made purely for the sake of saying they have done something. Finally on to the club house which I accept is still being constructed/altered, but nether the less consists of a desk with a man stood behind a vendor and a toilet. So for me this course needs another 18 months to get established, and paying £18 to play a pretty unkempt course is not justifiable.

Very much improved course

Course was in a much improved condition from previous council ownership... finally the club is getting the investment it deserves! It's a great combination of short & long par 4s, par 3s of various lengths & a couple of testing risk & reward par 5s. The greens were in good condition (visibly better than previous experience) and had some challenging flag positions. Staff were friendly & accommodating, prices are very reasonable and there is the added bonus of the clubs driving range close by.

Well worth a visit

Having been almost abandoned by the council, this once good municipal course is now being ran and improved with private investment by guys who know how to run and improve golf clubs and courses.

The work being done already is evident when you walk in to the clubhouse to collect your scorecard, the building is being completely renovated that will be completed at the start of the season. The driving range is now somewhere you can practice with further work to be done on it. You only have to visit Allerton Manor to see the quality of finish you can expect from the renovations.

The course has always been a great layout with very nice looking holes, some risk and reward holes as well. They just needed the right team to bring them back to their former glory and then improve from there which has been the case. Neatly cut bunkers with actual sand in them and nice looking greens with mounding surrounding them. The whole place is being given a face lift in such a relatively short period of time the new guys have it.

Following the closure of my last course and looking around for a good while for a new home I am looking forward to playing the coming season as a member at Sherdley Park. Oh, and the staff and pro are welcoming and pretty decent too!

Royal Sherdley Park GC

Sherdley Park GC has been given a second chance and a new lease of life. After being threatened with closure by the council, it now has an owner who are investing in the club, both on and off the course!!
The course itself only ever needed some TLC as the layout is already there.....the lads have come in and already made a world of difference.....bunkers can now be seen, ponds and brooks dredged and water flowing.
Greens have been holotined, cut, rolled, and generally been given the touch they always needed.
Off course, the old clubhouse is being renovated and come April will be the finest 19th this side of Allerton Manor GC.
I grew up on the golf course and have now come full circle in that I’ve moved back here and will be staying here well into retirement!!!
Here’s to 2019/2020 golf season!!

Everything modern golf should be...

I have played Sherdley park golf course for many years and I enjoy it every single time I play.

Under new ownership they have pumped money into it and pledged to pump a lot more and judging by what they have done at Allerton manor golf course the future of sherdley park is very bright indeed.

The course: Its fun, very well laid out, it has risk reward holes, driveable par 4's and I challenge you to find a prettier course particularly holes 13 through 18. On site and just across the park is a driving range which is a perfect warm up venue with friendly staff and an excellent pro. The staff at the club are always pleasant and happy to help and it has none of the sturdiness associated with the game I love.

The future is genuinely exciting for the course with a revamped club house and restaurant which is currently underway and I cant wait to see what they do to both the course and facilities.

Take my advice, whether you're new to golf or a seasoned veteran sherdley park golf club is worth a visit. What a fun course!

Pleasantly surprised

Played the course a few weeks back for the first time. Friendly staff & no problems with online booking. Course was in good condition, greens were a bit slow and bobbly but is to be expected for the time of year. Will definitely be back in the summer for another round & hopefully hole a few more putts.

Used to be a cracking muni!

Haven't played this course for about 10 years even though I live close by. It used to be in really good condition but the greens are in a poor condition. Whether the council have neglected it due to cutbacks (?) It appears to have suffered. Could be a great little course with its short par 4s, just needs a bit of TLC!

Good Municipal

This is a good municipal course in lovely park land. It's hard to follow due to lack of direction markers. Would play here again though
