Winter set-up
Hole 11 out of play due to re-seeding and landscaping work. All other holes played from Winter Tee box. Most of these were some distance from the summer Tee starts which was a problem as we found only five of these were marked with a fairway number and there was no other indication as to where the next Tee was from the last hole played.
Due to course layout having finished the 10th we moved to what appeared to be the 12th winter tee. Fortunately a member pointed out it was in fact the 16th and we needed to be 50 yards further on for the 12th.
As a number of the fairways cross other fairways on a busy day we could see the pace of play being slower whilst waiting for players to clear for safety reasons.
I understand this course is much more expensive to play in summer, I just hope they mark all the fairways/holes at that time.
Would I play here again. Yes as I now know where I am going. If you are playing for first time make sure you purchase a course book from the pro shop.
Perfect morning
Fantastic course. Challenging and very scenic. Friendly members and staff. Can’t wait to return.
They closed course
It was closed with all the rain at least they had the decency to ring and let me know but could have done it earlier as got call as I was 5 mins away was so looking forward to it too
Great course
Although it did not stop raining until the 15th hole we had a good day . Course even though it was torrential rain was in great condition although some greens were only just playable.great views and well worth the £30 pound hot deal. I do think they are overpriced at £70 . But we’ll done green keepers on the condition of your course .
Great Mornings Golf
Played early on Friday. Course very quiet. In great condition. Only minor downside was start of winter tees.
Round in under 3 hours. Good food in the clubhouse for lunch.
Wet day
Although it had rained heavily the day before the course was quite good to play, just a few boggy spots but nothing too bad, staff were very friendly and members were welcoming.
Excellent course, very well maintained by the green keepers. Some challenging holes and some rewarding holes. Clubhouse is very nice. We got an excellent deal on GolfNow so was fantastic value for money. very enjoyable dat and definitely look forward to returning.
Very playable winter course
I am very impressed at the condition of this course - this is golf in West Yorkshire in December and I did not encounter a boggy, sodden lie on the fairways or rough. They have clearly worked hard to ensure adequate drainage of the fairways. The fringes of the greens (actual greens in play - not crappy winter greens) were roped off to allow the ground to recover - this did not impede the approaches to greens in any way - perfectly acceptable measure taken to preserve the course. I was also impressed at the winter tee boxes - the artificial turf was soft enough to hit straight off with an iron but accepted a tee for the driver. The course plays shorter than in the summer, due to the position of the winter tee boxes.
Nice layout, adequate signage to avoid getting lost for newcomers, greens in very nice condition...I cannot fault this course for winter playability. Would certainly play here again.
Always enjoyable.
The course was in perfect condition, greens very receptive, but still quick and true. I like this course, bad shots are punished, usually ending up in amongst the trees, which line many a fairway, but you never seem to have trouble finding your ball. Reasonably flat, so easy walking, 6 par 3's, 5 par 5's, a decent challenge for all.
Try it!
Superb
Heard a lot about how nice this course was. Really impressed with superb condition of fairways & greens. Some brilliant par 3 holes.
Hidden Gem
In my opinion this is the best parkland course in West Yorkshire. The Alister Mackenzie affect can be seen throughout. Very easy to walk and a different challenge on every hole. From the welcome in the pro shop to the food and drink on the stunning balcony after the round, we couldn’t fault it. The course was in fantastic condition and the greens were fast and true.
Very enjoyable
Despite having many forgiving fairways, I shot my worst score of the year. My game was on an off day I must admit, but the real challenge was the greens. They were soft, but lightning fast and true as you like... If you find youself out of position on or approaching the green you will do very well not to drop a shot. Many a time found myself with a long, winding downhill put, to gently tap the ball and watch it fly past the hole and rest halfway down the fairway, Augusta style.
I think this may be my favourite course so far, the layout allows you to have fun off the tee, without endlessly searching for balls if your slightly off line. However challenges the short game and requires strategy / experience to play the course. It was great fun, a fair price and i really am looking forward to playing again with my new found knowledge (and hopefully on a day my game turns up).
Downsides are hard to think of, but if i was pressed - Layout requires you to tee over fairways twice, its not really an issue but its fair to categorise it as a slight negative.
Driving range is a bit of a walk across 2 fairways, is that an issue? i dont know.
Superb round of golf, i will be back, very soon.
Challenging
A beautiful course in a lovely setting with challenging holes in all 3 pars.
Looking forward to playing this course in the summer months.
We got on with the £20 special offer and had a great round. Having played a few different courses around the £15-£20 price we loved this club.
The green were superb and much faster and truer than we have had at other courses.
Great course
Brilliant course even with a lot work being undertaken to improve drainage and to continually improve the course. Heard that they'd been short of a greenkeeper so their efforts to keep the course in such condition should be highly commended.
Time between teetimes seemed to be tight but as we played in a 3 ball and everyone else seemed to be in pairs maybe that caused us to have to let a few groups through but we certainly wrent playing slow..
Another brilliant visit and really nice to have a drink on the terrace afterwards - the food options looked really good and very reasonably priced.
A lovely club and course which i highly recommend and will be visiting again.
