Potential to be Very Good
First and Foremost, the positives;
- A superb pro shop, driving range. All the usual refreshments available and good facilities to practice pre round. This was followed by a round filled with a good mixture of holes with character. 17 & 18 particular highlights over the lake. No half way hut but a drinks cart that provided adequate refreshment.
Now the not so great;
Horrendously slow with no evidence of the groups responsible being encouraged to hurry up or allow others to play through. No evidence of any course marshalls at all in fact. Certainly felt that tee times weren’t spread out correctly, they were definitely not adhered to if they were, probably due to the vacant starters hut. Course maintenance didn’t seem great. Fairways around driving range littered with range balls that had cleared the fence causing issues when finding you’re own ball, only complicated further by a huge amount of leaves. If you missed the fairway this is your own fault but between 3 golfers all hitting it fairly straight it got so bad that we had to introduce a little rule to our non competitive game that if you lost a ball under leaves in the fairway if all 3 agreed the approximate position we could drop another one without penalty.
Frustrating that it’s not the holes or set up that let the course down but more avoidable issues that you might not expect for the price.
The course is quite challenging
This is a good course to play with a nice layout and With some narrow fairways. Some holes need some really good management.
My only negative today was the poor quality of the greens. The hot weather obviously has a bearing on courses but maintaining the greens is paramount and considering the prestige of this course has they were very disappointing.
All in all a good day, staff very friendly and helpful.
Buggies were a bit pricey.
Greens were kept well.
One of my favorites courses around this area. Excellent condition, layout and staff. Fully recommended. Only downside is that the course is normally crowded
the booking through tee times would have cost less directly through silvermere golf club.
A true test of accuracy
Being a big hitter of the game faired well for me here. Many can lose confidence as the club's ascend to the driver...... The course plays even longer than the card suggests as irons off the tee prove to be a popular choice. The fairways are tight with thick clusters of trees and shrubbery shaping the holes. A poor tee shot can result in an obvious reload. Thankfully the course offers some of the best practice facilities u will find and believe me you will want to take full advantage of these before challenging the course.
The first 8 holes can only be described as being eye of a needle accurate off the tee. Then the early second half of the course slightly opens up before again making you think about your club selection off the tee.
A great test of golf where accuracy is essential, with very little forgiveness for being wild. A course that you actually have to think about how you will manage her if you're to score.
Shoot you 30 point and above and you can be pleased with your self here. Enjoy
Very pretty course
Fantastic course, greens are in superb condition, great staff, all round a great day
Great short and long holes - great challenge on the last two holes. Well maintained.
Could be a lot better
I liked the layout of the course. The greens were very poor and some look like they have been vandalized. With some proper maintenance this could be a great course.
An utter pleasure to play , challenging but rewarding
The greens have been hollow tine so was not up to scratch but can't wait to play again it when it's settled !!
Greens had been cored and sanded which they seem to do quite often but the round was cheaper as a result.
Another round ruined by slowplay
Nearly a five hour round, midweek in January... Caught up to a three ball on the 7th who all took a minimum of two tee shots every hole, and a mixed four ball in front of them. I even walked back to the clubhouse to ask if they could get someone to hurry people up or speak to them about slow play but all I got was a shrug. When I spoke to them, they said they couldn't let us through as there was people in front of them, strange excuse.
If the management will not do anything about slow play then it ruins it completely. Played before and got clocked at the half way hut, but no one to be seen this time and no course marshall. Absolute waste of money, and I won't be back
Would play again
Severe at bar slow but a grate round of golf a good challenge but really hard for beginners but worth a go will be playing again
Good but Course expect 5 hours to go round
Worth noting that the course expects 5 hours to go round. For me that's prohibitively long but worth bearing in mind when you book a time. Course was in good nick especially considering a lot of rain the day before and being November. First 6 holes have tight fairways. Gave up after 10 as it was slow but was told by the manager they expect a round to take 5 hours.
