Hidden gem

The course is off the beaten track down a narrow road and is best described as quirky! There is an honesty box for green fees and a visitors' book to sign inside the clubhouse. Saw no-one connected with the Club beforehand and only green keepers on course. Despite the wet weather, proper greens were in play and in excellent condition although expectation was to play off fairway mats; alternatively to do without from light rough. There are just 10 holes; 8 are played twice and the other 2 just once. Despite this, holes represent a good mix and the views over Chesterfield and beyond are stunning. There was no-one manning the 19th hole but despite its obvious limitations this course is a hidden gem and well worth a visit; certainly we will be going back - again and again!

Shocking conditions

Wasn’t informed about this course being 9 holes as advertised as 18. Also no where did it say about the greens being shut and 150 years a knocked off every hole. SHOCKING!!!!!

Never again

I was called by the club before my round warning me it was a carry only policy today, only to find every group I saw on the course was using trollies. When I questioned this with the clubhouse they suggested it was due to "medical exemptions".
Within another 5 minutes of arriving I was yelled out by a greenkeeper. Not politely spoken to. Shouted at from across the course. No mention of temporary greens was mentioned before the round by anyone so my first shot went 20 yards long. The holes looked they had been cut with a hammer. One of the par 3s had been shortened to around 50 yards by hacking a green out of a hillside with another hammer cut mess of a hole. To top things off in style a 3 ball ahead of me was extremely slow. One of the 3 was playing 2 balls, one white, one multi. Unbelievable! I got to hole 6, waited on the tee while the 3 amigos ambled and hacked their way down the fairway and decided I had had enough. Walked in. Got in my car. Never to return. Ever.

A must play gem of derbyshire

I've been meaning to play here for a while and finally got round to it but boy it did not disappoint.

The course is in incredible condition as a member of chesterfield it is as good as that easily! Greens are lightening fast! Incredible views of chesterfield throughout.

Holes are challenging, they make you think about every shot but the greens make that even harder plus elevated the wind adds extra thought!

Clubhouse was awesome.great.food and drink on a lovely outdoor terrace with stunning views over chesterfield.

The only downside is this is only 10 holes but they more than make.uo for that with different tees and the sheer quality of those 10 holes!

Don't let it out you off Fame and team have done a sensational job here!! Well played!!

Stanedge GC is a well maintained course. But is a 9 hole you play twice, except the 16th. Also there’s no gps signal in the area so tech players like myself with a Garmin watch and club senses I’m afraid just don’t work. Knowing this the course really should have more distance markers and or 150-100 stones set in the fairways. Most holes have a 150yard pole only. Lastly £26 a round is a bit steep for a 10 hole course and I got discounted fees at £19.99 through GolfNow, which I thought was still too much.,,

Great hidden gem of a course

I can't be too detailed on this course as l only played 9 holes out of 18 as my golfing buddy hadn't eaten all day & wanted to stop early, so we only played the front 9 holes & never saw the back, but what we did play was challenging, interesting & nicely maintained. Very little to no water l can recall on the front 9 tbh.
What l will say is that although it seems quite a homely unsophisticated place with no buggies & very limited range of choices in their shop, Staff could not be more friendly or welcoming & their food was superb! To the point that I keep wanting to return just to have more of their excellent steak pie which was the best I've ever tasted anywhere!

beautiful quiet area.

Second time i have played this course and was not disappointed, the course was in immaculate condition although the greens had been treated it didn,t spoil our round and in fairness we were told before we started but they were far better than expected.
All the staff were very friendly and made us most welcome, brilliant indoor and outdoor facilities, coffee and bacon and egg baps excellent, well done to all, hope to return.

Interesting + Tricky Course with Nice Views

A recently upgraded course in a countryside setting with excellent signage, and much thought and detail apparent !.
It's a clever and tricky course with bunkers positioned everywhere you don't want them !
A good mix of fairly short par 4s, a couple of par 5s, and some short but tricky par 3s.
Undulating fairways bordered by trees, bracken and stone walls. The fairways are at a variety of cambers and several deep and narrow ditches cross the fairways.
The greens are very good with some raised with increased potential for roll-off.
Dogs on lead allowed on course, and a nice sitting out area + clubhouse with very friendly staff.
Our round was like millionaire golf on a sunny day.
A very nice and enjoyable experience !

Great course - 100% recommend

This is a great course all round, it's kept in an amazing condition, friendly staff and great facilities. Don't let the fact its only a ten hole course and you have to play 8 holes twice put you off, I was sceptical at first but from my first round have since been back and played three more times.
