Cracking golf course
A great golf course layout which was let down by very poor greens. I've played the course on many occasions & it was the worst I've ever seen them. Very uneven & slow. Staff weren't very helpful either.
The course needs a little tlc & it could be a great course again.
Great course
Course was in fantastic condition on the hottest day of the year. One of the best in the Midlands for a links/woodland cross course. Friendly staff as always and great value for money.
The greens were exceptional
As we were signed in by the front desk we was warned that there was a golf day on so we would tee off 10 mins later than booked which was fine with us. The practice area was well equipped with all the usual stuff including a bunker. I would say the course itself is well layed out and the greens were the best I've ever played. All in all a great knock on a fantastic course.
Nice course
Nice course,a little long but in good condition.
Bar staff sparse and had to leave when it got dark
This is a championship course laid out to challenge ball control and thoughtfulness as well as power. The setting is generously and artistically laid out around the old country house with mature hardwoods and some well placed newer planting, teasing water and bunkers, some tight oob, and some undulating but not cruel greens. About 12 greens appeared not to have been cut that day and were much slower than we are used to, but still running true. All round in great nick for the end of the season and not crowded even on a lovely autumn day. The course tested and found us wanting but encouraged to want to try to do better next year!
Great Tough Course
Fantastic course layout. Difficult course through, the roughs are very rough; stray off line and you've lost your ball. The course could do with a little map on the score card to help navigate. First time playing here. I will be back.
In keeping with corporate courses
Well presented course where length is determined by the number of water hazards/ditches that cross fairways. Often length has to be sacrificed for safety leaving long second shots into large but bunker protected greens. The walks between holes is significant and tiring, a big factor in the rating of the experience. Without a buggy would not consider playing again
Test your ability
Magnificent course, very good test of ability. Rough off fairways even semi-rough can be penal however bunkers superb. You need to be able to drive accurately and excercise good course management re. positioning. You cannot fault this course and its surroundings, true millionaires golf feel, championship course @ 7000 yards and par 73, you just won't get any better!
Good course
Good greens but lacks character as very open and featureless
Nice course,very scenic
Good course spoilt only by slow play in front of us.Practice facilities very average though for the nice course
Quality Course
First time at Stapleford and it will not be the last. From the moment you enter the grounds the whole place ouzes class. It was a Bank Holiday and we still hardly saw another soul on the course.
Class and quality.
For what we paid I would say this is the best value round of golf I've ever had. From the moment you turn into the drive you just know that you are in for a treat and it didn't disappoint. The course has been used for the Senior Masters and I can see why. Can't wait to return.
Countryside golf
SP is an excellent layout deep into rural England allowing wide ranging views over the countryside. Buggies are to taken on the fairways to preserve the rough that defines all of the layout. This rough is not high but is enough to create problems if you are even a couple of yards off line. All greens undulate and being of moderate pace require thought if a three putt is to be avoided. The bar area is comfortable and the staff personable and helpful. Perfect example of a parkland course.
Nice but slow
Myself and a friend went to play this course. First impressions was great, the driving range and putting greens before playing were right by the first tee. We had a 10:50am slot, and was ready and waiting for our tee off. We managed to tee-off a couple of minutes after, but followed a four ball. Although we are not playing off of scratch it was soon apparent it was going to be a very long game. In front of the four ball in front of us, was another four ball, and teeing off after us was another two ball. As every golfer knows waiting to play every shot for sometimes five minutes is very frustrating. So although the course and the greens were in top shape, unfortunately the waiting times to play a shot was just unbearable. It's ruined the day. I will book another round here again, but if I'm held up to the whole game of golf, I will not go back. Such a shame, but they need to leave 15 / 20 minutes between tee times for four balls.. less for 2 balls.. Surely this is basic in booking systems.
Disappointed - rained off
Was really looking forward to playing the course as had only previously been there to watch the pro's. Unfortunately, it rained for 8 hours solid, so we chickened out.
