Potential
Considering courses around it it’s not worth the money. Pay a bit extra to play much nicer!
Tee boxes are some of the worst around!
Wet but not muddy
Played after a lot of rain, so expected it to be a slog with lots of pick clean and place. However this was rarely required and tees, fairways and greens were all in great shape. Had the course mainly to ourselves. Will go again.
A decent course with some challenging holes, although the layout at times a little misleading.
A lot of overhanging trees making some holes very difficult to thread the needle-but a good challenge, although in autumn sun it makes finding your ball difficult with all the leaves
Conditions were generally good, a couple of holes with boggy ground under water (but there was a lot of rain the day before).
Would recommend the ground staff help
- clear leaves more frequently-particularly the 18th green
- A lot of tees are roughed up and are cambered, making the tee off stance unbalanced. Imo these need looking at.
This course is heavily used
This course is heavily used and a bit scruffy in parts- back nine better condition than front. Felt like a pay and play
Lumpy greens
I like the course layout, but this course has gone downhill. The greens are in terrible condition.
Also, playing as a 2 ball on Saturday, don't expect to whizz round as most of the members don't seem to know the rules about slow play...
Grass could do with cutting
Great course, fairways and fringes of fairways could do with cutting.
The bar is pretty grim compared to others of a similar price range (Chesfield or Wyboston for example)
The day we went it was very hot and it would have benefited from the tables outside having some umbrellas.
Overall a nice course just a bit of TLC and a nice bar opening to the terrace would be nice
Temporary tees
Greens and fairways were in good condition considering the weather / time of year. Temporary tees on much of the holes. Some father forward then you would like,. One par 5 became a par 4 for example. The course is very basic and straight bar one or two holes but some tough bunker positions, and two holes were you need to be hitting 260 carries or you need to play up. For the price £30 it was rather expensive considering most tees are temporary and it was not always clear where they were on the holes either nor is it clear where the next hole was when walking off the green. I would think in summer it isn’t a bad golf course and I could see myself playing there again but not in its current state and at the current price.
Great course but no signage
This was my first time playing here and it is a lovely challenging course which has well maintained greens and fairways. The course is currently undergoing work to several tee boxes to make it better for spring/summer play and there were a number of temporary tees in use however this was to be expected and not an issue. The staff were friendly as we're all other groups I encountered. The course has a number of signature holes and club selection took some thought. Greens played true even though they were a little frozen. My only negatives for the course are that the tee box markers were not present on every hole so it made finding the teeing off location a little difficult and signage to the next hole was non existent. Other than these minor points I will definitely play there again.
Nice challenging course
Course is a challenging one nice mix of par 3 lengths.
The tee boxes leave a lot to be desired maybe 1 or 2 flat boxes apart from that good course.
Great value for money, nice amenities, no waiting around, interesting & varied course, a few of the tee boxes were in poor condition but apart from that very pleasant round.
Avoid for now.
The greens at Stevenage were in a rotten state when we played there. Almost all of them had freshly laid strips of turf in them and were impossible to putt over. This is the second bad experience we’ve had with this course recently so we’ll be giving it a miss for the foreseeable future.
Expensive for a council course
Conditions of fairways and greens not as good as I thought they would be after the covid break. Some lovely holes and challenges and things to avoid on every hole.
