This course needs a new green keeper & Management
Played here a few times in the past - last time was about 2015. It was always pretty decent and reasonably well kept.
It was always the kind of standard you would expect on a society or work golf day with a nice modern club house, Driving Range and usual facilities.
It now however is the standard of a holiday style 'pitch & Putt' course.
The greens are half bald/Muddy area.
The Bunkers had zero sand in them. They were full of stones.
The rough was not managed - it was all overgrown and uncut (i.e miss the fairway - loose a ball)
The signage was poor and hard to navigate.
There was stuff by one of the greens where someone had lit a fire.
The tee boxes were uneven and un-kept.
The 1st hole was not even a hole. After we finally found it we decided not to even play it as it was a 'mound of grass' behind the rough. Clearly a temp hole but not mention of it before seeing it.
The toilets smelt.
Waste of time.
Dont waste your money
Heard they have new green keeper at the course, the fairways are ok but they have cut the grass and just left the grass on the fairway so you cant find your ball if it does into it,
Bunkers have massive rocks in them and it damaged one of our clubs.
The greens have holes in them, divots from people hitting on them. patchy grass and it bobbles like crazy ( you will not see a pick of any of their greens online because they are that poor.
its a shame because this has been poor for years and they spend money on renovating a bar over putting work into the course.
Dont waste your money
Nice Course
First time playing at Stockley Park during rainy week in winter. The fairways were not that soggy as expected and the greens still rolling quite well. I like the course layout overall with few doglegs making you think about club selections of the tee. Friendly staff at reception as well as on course. Will definitely come again when the weather is much better.
Not to bad
I don’t normally write reviews but after reading some of this course I thought I would.
Due to over night heavy rain this was the only course open in he area. The front 9 was a little wet as expected but the back 9 was good.
The greens I must say are not to bad for winter, they actually run pretty true.
Was it worth £30 maybe not. Was worth £30 when every other course was closed, I’d say yes.
Would I play the course again? Yes I would and will be back when the weather is a little dryer.
It does not deserve the bad reviews I seen on here unless it’s terrible in the summer.
Good to get out
Having had the previous 2 rounds cancelled due to weather (other courses), I went for Stockley Park as it does drain better than most.
Because of the weather (I'm assuming) the yellow Tees were moved upto the red tees, which made the course alot more easier, if I had known this would I have played ?
The course itself was very busy as there was a society playing who were very slow, luckily the marshals understood this and managed to fit us in so we played the course 5-18, then 1-4, I dont mind this, if the benefit is a 4 hour round and not a 5.5 hour round.
Overall, given the amount of rain the course was ok, no temp greens, infact greens played fast and true. There were a few leaves around (obviously due to it being late Autumn), which unfortunately meant I "lost" a couple of balls even though I was on the fairway !
Overall, £30 was probably about fair, given it was Sunday morning.
Not what it was, let down by poor to non-existance maintenance
This once great course has been abandoned by the current management and grass cutters.
The bunkers have basically been abandoned, most are returning to nature with grass, bushes or trees growing in them. If you do end up in them, you will more than likely damage your club on the many stones - so much for their promise to make them better 2 years ago.
On a positive note, the fairway drainage and greens were good for this time of year (Nov), and the semi rough is not excessively deep (could be shorter).
Summary: Good for winter golf, but will avoid in summer until they start maintaining the courses correctly.
Decent track, and not too busy
Got round without any big hold ups. Greens were pretty freshly cut. Fairways played nicely. Bunkers were very out of shape but I can get over that. Course layout really interesting. Lots of holes that offered different challenges. And for 25£ it was v good value. Would play again.
What a shame
This course has a fantastic layout and really good holes. Unfortunately it’s such a shame that it is in very poor condition. Very patchy greens, fairway grass too long, but all bunkers are atrocious. With weeds and grass growing all over. You are actually allows to tee your ball in the bunker without penalty. Never heard of this before. Very sad condition for such a well designed layout. Staff said that condition is reflected in the lower price. But I’d really rather pay more, investment and some TLC badly needed.
Stockley Park
Played here last in September 2022 and it was a great course, very challenging and required control.
This time in august 2023 the course was in really bad shape, losing balls in the “first cut” off the fairway, on one of the holes we lost two balls just off the fairway. The greens were really very very poor - huge divots and holes by animals. Cracked earth with no grass - impossible to play with any precision.
I know there is a new grounds keeper who was keen to talk, he’s got a big job on his hands to get the course back to where it was. Avoid for now!
A Neglected Fairway: From Former Glory to Current Disarray
While this course may have once been a golfer's haven, its condition in 2023 is disheartening. The greens are among the worst I've encountered; for perspective, I've played on fairways that were smoother. Even at the discounted "Hot Deals" rate of £25, it's difficult to justify playing here when there are superior courses available for the same price. I'd place its actual value closer to that of an £18 course.
The course is expansive, but its neglected state means you're likely to lose balls just an inch off the fairway in the first cut of rough. It's evident that the groundkeepers have not invested the care and attention needed to maintain the course. The end result is an overgrown landscape with woefully inadequate greens
Could be good
Could be a real good course, but horribly kept overgrown greens are rubbish and tee boxes over grown and horrible.
Shame about the greens.
I really enjoyed the course, but and it's a big but the greens are a big let down.
The tees and fairways are in very good condition, but the greens are some of the worst I've played on. The 10th in particular is like a cabbage patch, I've seen temporary greens in far better condition.
Friendly girl at the desk and easy to book. If they can improve the quality of the greens it will be a gem of a course.
Greena
Found the layout absolutely brilliant, the fairways fairly good, some of the holes looks so good, only issue with the course is the greens are absolutely terrible, played a fair amount of courses an unfortunately one of the worst greens, the 10th hole has to have the worst green I have played on, hope that they fix this soon, this course has so much potential really.
This used to be a good course
Having played stockley park golf course for many years and seen the changes made over this time I can only say that none of these have been for the better.
The layout has changed so many times my watch doesn’t know where it is most of the time.
It’s hard to see where the green staff spend their time and money as the course is quite frankly appalling.
Tee boxes are uncut. The general state of the pathways around the course is terrible with bramble and nettles out of control and the greens are the worst I have seen for a long time.
It would appear that the owners are more interested in the restaurant than the course.
I personally will not return to stockley park.
Poor conditions
Very disappointed played here about a month ago and the course was in much better condition not sure what has gone wrong but the greens and tee boxes were in terrible conditions such a shame because it usually in good condition all year round
Poor condition
Have played here a few years ago and the course was in a lot better condition then. Greens completely burnt , Tee boxes poor , bunkers unkept and full of stones and no rakes & pace of play atrocious 2.5 hours to play 9 holes so never made it past the club house to the 10th . This place has so much potential if only someone took control . On a positive note the off course facilities were great nice club house and the staff were very friendly
Everything poor
This course is awful Green are in a bad bad state shop was poor beers were flat would not recommend to anyone
