Great value golf
Despite being the middle of February the course was in fair condition and the greens were running true. Interesting layout and some challenging holes. Would happily play here again perhaps in the summer..
An interesting and challenging course
Really enjoy the layout of this course, I have to be on top of my game to score well here, a few of the greens a bit wet which is standard for this time of year. The pace of play was a bit slow today, with players continuously bunching up, maybe a lot of people were venturing out for their 1st game of the year because it was mild
surrey national in the fog
Drech weather (low cloud/fog) made some holes challenging as just couldn't see.. otherwise apart from the condition of the bunkers everything was good.
Great value for money course.
Teed off at 12.45pm and finished just before lights out at 4.45pm. Pretty decent pace of play. Course was in good condition for mid January, although pretty much every green had numerous unrepaired pitch marks which was pretty frustrating. Other than that, 18 holes for £12 you just can’t go wrong. Shot a gross 80 with four birdies, so my best round for months.
Course in great condition given time of year. Greens and bunkers well looked after.
Review
Credit to the greenkeeping team, cultural practices up to date and very good, greens had just been sprayed (usually difficult at this time of year) and as a result greens disease free, short cut and running very true.
Always enjoy playing here a good test without being too difficult, interesting good layout and good presentation and facilities plus they serve Doombar !!
Note : an equipment wash down facility would be useful
Too slow
The pace of play is absolutely ridiculous we had to wait on every shot. Quite often there were 2 groups waiting on the tee at the same time. We did see a Marshall on the course and he did not do anything to speed the slow groups up. We left after 15 holes that had taken nearly 5 hours.
Such a pity as it is potentially a very good course.
Group in front had no concept of pace of play lost 2 holes to the group in frontof them by the 5th hole. No thought to allow a much quicker 4 ball play through
Nice course - some upkeep needed
Course has some very nice challenging holes and is good fun. Could do with some tlc in places eg bunkers rock solid and no hole signage or yardage marker posts on first nine holes. They also double booked our tee time but thankfully other group were relaxed about it.
Great condition given the dry weather
Enjoyable round with fairways and greens in fantastic condition given the weather. Probably should have got buggy as course is quite hilly etc.
Good value for money
Be aware of bunkers
Played here for the first time, good customer service from the young professional. The paths around the course need updating ( should be of tarmac) more yardage markers needed, as for the “BUNKERS “ no sand just stones and grit even if there was sand very few rakes!
Lovely course!
We had a mixed welcome in the pro shop, the pro was happy to get us booked in but didn’t offer any information on the course of facilities.
This is a really good course that is very well maintained and a very good test of golf with a number of long par 4’s, undulating fairways and greens. There is generally quite a lot of room off the tee to hit driver but there are also many well placed strategic bunkers. Pace of play was ok and would recommend to all. We will be back.
Very Disappointed
Such a shame as it looked to be a great course online. When I got there all I could see were daisy's covering the fairways. The greens were extremely slow and the bunkers were in poor condition. If you missed the fairway but a couple of yards the rough was extremely long.
What made the round unbearable however was the pace of play. I spend 1 hour and 45 minutes to play 6 holes which is out of this world. The people playing the course were noisy and there was no marshal in site. Will not be visiting here again for a while.
Good but probably best in summer
Good course, quite long. Some tough par 3’s and some good looking holes. Had been raining the day before but the ground was very unforgiving. Would like to play again in the summer months
Excellent Course
been meaning to play this course for months now, finally played it today and it was brilliant considering the weather the last few weeks. Greens in perfect condition running true, fairways also perfect condition. no standing water anywhere and the rough wasnt even boggy
100% recommend this course.
I would suggest hiring a buggy as its very hilly
Wonderful course and great value
I can't believe more people don't know about this course. Having played many courses over the last 18 months, this is the best for variety, beauty and value. Each hole gets you thinking (work buying a guide for £5 in the pro shop) with plenty of slopes, hazards, elevated tees and greens and undulating greens.
I've played this course now about 10 times and I've only once been disappointed (there was a large society playing which meant I was only able to play 9 holes, I was given a free round by way of an apology).
I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging round at a very reasonable price.
smooth greens
considering the time of year the fairways and greens were in excellent condition. The only downside was too many people in short space of time led to congestion on 11th - in fact that meant 11 players on one hole!! a call to the pro speeded up our game but it still took 5hours!!
however, as compensation we managed to get a free round so good result in the end.
Surrey
Nice course. Not much need for a driver for the longer hitter. 200 to 230 off the tee leaves mid irons to wedges to green.
Some slopping fairways side to side means runs offs into the semi rough.
Greens were in good condition just not very consistent making outside 12 feet hard to judge pace.
Nice course, good round and would definitely recommend it. Definitely requires some thought in managing your round.
First Time Playing
First time playing this course and was very happy with what Surrey National had to offer.
Well maintained tee boxes and fairways however my only downside was the greens were very slow, this was probably down to the couple days rain before the round though so can't blame that on course management.
Cannot wait to go back and try and better my score though. Would recommend for players of all abilities however the hilly course might be a challenge for elderly or ill health.
