Thank you for you for your review! We hope to see you again soon.
First time
Superb condition, greens spiked but run true would definitely play again
Thank you for your review! We are pleased you had a good round and enjoyed the condition of the course. We use small tines in the greens and tees during the winter period to help with drainage and aeration. The tines are so small they bare no real affect on play. We look forward to seeing you again.
Great All Year Round Option
Course playing well despite recent bad weather. Greens rolling excellently and no sign of temporary tees.
Thank you for your review! We are pleased you enjoyed your round. Despite the weather we guarantee not to use any temporary tees or greens and we are one of the best draining courses in the area! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
I love this course!
I have played Surrey National many times over the years and I still enjoy playing it now. The course itself is in fantastic condition considering the weather we have had recently. All the playing surfaces were in great nick and the greens were true. I can see that there are improvements taking place around certain areas of the course which I'm sure will make it even better. I'll definitely be coming back again.
Decent Winter Condition
I've played here many times and for mid November the course is in decent condition. Better than Westerham in the winter and probably the same as Woldingham. Not bad value for money. Only thing I dislike about the course is most holes are on a gradient so playing balls above or below feet on most shots which can be challenging.
Great course but really need to address the pace of play.
I’ve played here quite a few times and it’s genuinely one of my favourite Surrey. Tracks The last sunny weekend of the year when every golfer in the Uk was trying to squeeze in their last round of the year! But to this point. It took forever!!! Waiting up 20 mins on some tee boxes with 2 to 3 groups waiting. Think we played 5hrs 20. And we normally around there in a lot less time. I don’t mind slow play but as long as you’re moving…. We just weren’t. And we pretty much Finished in the dark. Think they perhaps had too many people on the course this day with not enough spacing of tee times? The rough wasn’t too bad but think people still struggled to find balls which doesn’t help pace. It’s tough because daylight is less and loads of people want to play, but think if you want to keep people coming back, rather have 1 less tee time per hour out or more Marshall’s?
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are pleased that Surrey National is one of your favourite courses in Surrey. It was a very busy day when you played due to the exceptional weather which is very rare in November. Every tee time was booked and the majority of bookings were 4 balls. The course is playing longer due to the wet ground and the rough even though at a good length is makes it more difficult to play out from and find your ball when sodden. We did have our course marshal and a starter working this day to help in the movement of golfers. We are always looking into ways of improvement and appreciate the feedback and hope that you will come and visit us again soon.
Decent layout but horrific pace of play
Level tee boxes, interesting layout, challenging greens and a good challenge of the whites. Fairways not in great nick, often muddy, and uncut.
Waiting at every tee, and at the turn nearly 12 minutes on a single tee box. 5hr 20mins for a round of golf is just not enjoyable. A small society ahead of us seemed to completely derail the proceedings, and no sign of a Marshall.
Unlike other reviews we didn’t struggle to find out way to the next tee, but that was a double edged sword… just increased our standing about time!
I would come back for the great warm up facilities and general layout, but the pace meant I’ll likely avoid in future unless it’s a very early tee time
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you felt that your visit was average. Weekends are our busiest days and we do have a starter and marshal working to help keep the course moving. We recommend playing as a 3 or 4 ball to help with the pace of play. and when you visit us next time there are earlier tee times available if you prefer. We hope to see you again.
Profit comes first
I have played Surrey National a number of times in the past and have mixed feelings about the course. The layout is good and there are a number of really interesting holes. It can be challenging but rewarding to play. The conditions yesterday really let the course down though. We played on a Sunday morning and found the greens bobbling all over the place, the fairways frankly poor and a general feeling that the course needs a bit more maintenance than it appears to be getting. The first cut rough in particular was just utterly frustrating in its length and ability to swallow balls. By all means punish an errant tee shot that is way off line, but when your shots are hitting fairways, running off into the fringe and the first cut just sends your ball to another dimension it is beyond penal. A course can be tough but it must be fair to be enjoyable.
On the positive side, the tee boxes were in good nick and also flat (how do so many course fail to achieve that?!), and the staff were very pleasant.
I think the overall experience belies this course's status as a bit of a cash cow for the operators. They stack the tee times, pace of play can be poor (although to be fair there was a marshal out on the day we played) and the price charged is on the steep side for conditions as poor as we had yesterday. Surrey National jacked their prices up hugely during the COVID-19 surge of golfers and showed that profit came first. Yesterday's round just felt like poor value for money and an extension of that money comes first mentality.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you felt that the condition of the course was not the best.. This is in contrast to other reviews we have had from other golfers that has played the course recently. The fairways are still recovering from the extremely dry weather we had in August and the team are working hard to improve areas which were hardest hit. We are now in Winter Rules so preferred lies were available. We believe our green fees are of good value for our product, and like every course during Covid-19 our prices did increase. However we have put continual investment into our course and we are a very popular course still. We hope we will see you at the club again one day in the future.
Course is Excellent
Used most clubs in my back with a great mix of holes and hazards. Greens were true and course was well maintained. Only downside was that we had planned for food and drinks after but hadn’t been told the clubhouse was inaccessible to us after the round due to a private function (who were heckling as shots were being played on the 18th)
Thank you for your review! We are really pleased to hear you enjoyed your round and the condition of the course. We are sorry that you were not informed about the private event taking place in the evening, we will be sure to improve communication for the future. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Simply Stunning
A truly great golf course.
Immaculately kept and beautiful on a sunny autumn day.
Will certainly be coming back to play soon.
Thank you for your 5* review! We are really pleased to hear you enjoyed your round and the condition of the course. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Great condition. Good challenge from the back tees
Course was in super condition. Fairways perhaps a little long but the greens were superb - receptive and true running.
Layout of the course is good with some interesting and challenging holes, notably the Par 3 4th, Par 5 6th and Par 3 13th which is a lovely tee shot over the valley..
Only slight disappointment was a relatively slow pace of play, even at 0720 in the morning. But this was a minor irritation - nothing more.
Overall, a good, challenging course in fantastic condition. Well worth a visit.
Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the condition of the course and the it's layout. We can get busy as we are a popular course but pleased that the overall experience was a good one! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
nice course
This is a nice course with well designed holes. That said, they need more signage at each hole to indicate the hole number and if possible layout. We played on a changeable showery and sometimes windy day and thus did not appreciate the fourball in front not letting our two ball through. Thus 'pace of play' was just marked as average. A nicely designed course though and one we would play again..
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are looking into getting some tee signage installed in the future. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Average golf course
Greens where inconsistent and layout not ideal with long walks between holes. Course lenders itself to very slow play. 4.5 hours to complete 16 holes.
Thank you for review, we are sorry to see you felt we were 'avergae'. We are a long golf course and we are set in the hillside and valleys here where there are a few walks longer walks from green to tee. At the weekend you would be looking at 4.5 hours to do a full 18 holes. The course is in very good condition for this time of year, we hope you will give us another try in the future.
Thank you for your review, we hope to see you again soon.
Great Day Out
Course in great condition considering dry spell over the past few months. Lots of work being done to the fairways which have suffered. Greens excellent and welcome by staff all good.
Thank you for your 5* review! We are pleased you enjoyed your round and found the golf course in great condition. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Pleasant day
The golf course and clubhouse has a very pleasant atmosphere. The couse is a interesting challenge and in good condition considering the dry summer.
Thank you for your review! We are pleased you enjoyed your game and found the course in good condition. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Pace of play was shocking. Nearly 6 hours for 18 holes. Greens in great condition but fairways were awful. Not cut, couldn’t not tell difference between fairway and first cut. Had heard a lot about this course but was bitterly disappointed
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, We are sorry to see you felt disappointed. Unfortunately with the extreme dry and drought conditions the country were experiencing a couple of weeks ago, it has been difficult to maintain the course due to the lack of rainfall. This has meant that some areas on fairways have become patchy but there have been preferred lies in place if required. At the time of play we had 3 or 4 storms in the days leading up which brought a lot of heavy rain with them and made certain parts of the course unsafe to cut. All tees, greens and approaches were in great shape and had been cut prior to your visit. The course is in fantastic condition and compared to other courses in the area. We are sorry to hear your experienced some slow play. Golf had become very busy overnight due to the cancellation of sport across the country due to the Queens passing and was slightly slower than normal. However we did have a marshal and starter out on the course to make sure that groups were moving and we did not have any phone calls regarding slow play on the day or any other reports from groups that were coming in from the course so we are surprised to hear you felt it took so long to get round. We hope that you will come back and give us another try soon.
Not worth the money
Course was very scruffy, fairways are a long, patchy mess. Greens were the only saving grace. No signage around the course to find the next tee or maps of the holes on each tee and with so many blind tee shots it's a guessing game. The 'cart path' was a treacherous mess of stones and debris, I wouldn't be surprised if someone has injured themselves going round the course. Fairways slope off onto other fairways with no rough to hold up the ball, meaning players are constantly crossing over one another to play their second shots. Overall I would avoid for the price they're asking, there are many more courses in Surrey that are the same price and are infinitely better in condition and layout.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we are sorry to see you felt you had to score us low. Unfortunately with the extreme dry and drought conditions the country were experiencing at the time it has been very difficult to maintain the golf course considering the lack of rainfall. Ourselves like all golf courses in the country suffered and considering this we were in fantastic condition compared to most courses locally. There was preferred lies in place at the time of play if you wanted to use the ruling, The buggy paths are being worked on in the winter months when the course is quieter however buggies were permitted on the grass. We hope you will come back and give us another go once the weather conditions improve for golf.
Thank you for your 5* review!
