Tired.
First time using GolfNow, sadly images do not live up to expectations of this course - not GolfNow's problem of course. Greens were more brown than green, fairway and greens very much in need of a cut and the whole place just seemed really tired and dated in need of some loving care and attention. Range non existent, just told to play 3 of the 9 hole which was so overgrown. Dying a slow death.
Challenging Course
Interesting and some difficult holes to create a good test. Very firm greens
Good pace of play
Great course layout let down by overly long rough
Very nice course with a number of challenging holes and varied penalty areas - lakes, trees and bunkers. The greens were a good pace and well-cut however the fairways were not trimmed and the nearby rough which should have been the first cut, was very long making it too penalising and making the balls difficult to find. I would suggest that better course maintenance was required with a sound plan to attract amateur golfers.
Good facilities in the hotel with very friendly staff and good pricing of food and drink.
Nice Layout, Poorly Maintained
A little disappointing if I'm honest, has the potential to be a lovely course with some really challenging holes. Let down by the maintenance, rough was unbelievably thick, so much so that you'd be punished with a lost ball if you missed the fairway. That being said, hitting the fairway wasn't much of a bonus, as they were longer than they should be too.
I spoke to a couple of members whilst getting a drink who mentioned that it was too long but this was partly due to a lack of staff potentially due to COVID. Would happily have recommended this course if the place was better maintained as the layout of holes makes for a good course.
Lawnmower Broken?
What a shame. It was a beautiful day and we spend £31 on a round and the fairways hadn’t been mowed in a week? Two maybe. It was really poor.
Thi said, the green were in good condition but slow.
Not worth that money and won’t be returning any time soon.
Improved since last play
The course is getting back to somewhere near its previous decent standard. Still no resident pro and the odd sketchy patch on the greens but over all worth the £23 midweek price
Very nice course
Lovely setting with a very good course layout. Good mixture of par 3,4&5 holes.
Getting Better
Not as bad as it was last year when they let the place go to ruin. Signs that they are actually looking after the place now. Still work to be done but looks like it’s going in the right direction and let’s hope they bring it back to what it was a couple of years ago. Great course when at its best, one of the finest in North Wiltshire, but not there yet. Oh, still on winter trolley wheels mid April and course not wet, what’s that about
Good but could be great
The course lay out offers a lot of variation and I enjoyed playing the course. But it could be maintained better which would have made it great. Upon arrival a couple of members told us “it’s crap the new owners don’t put any money in” so our expectations were low, but we all thought the course was ok, but just could be so much better it looked after a little bit more. I’d say 15-20 quid would be fairer
Good for price paid
For £22 on a Bank Holiday you can't complain. Bit wet in some areas but on the whole the course and greens played well.
Great Course.
First time I played this Course went here on a last minute round. Course was a little wet in areas but nothing that was un-playable. Greens was in good condition for time of year and pace wasn’t too off. Tee boxes could of done with a trim some quite over grown and presentation of them could of been better. Bunkers was all good depth of sand can’t complain.
Staff was pleasant and friendly. Would recommend this course to anyone. Especially anyone in the military as they do discount and makes it an absolute bargain for the facility.
Overall great course, testing holes and extremely enjoyable.
Lovely course, fairways in great nick, greens not so, but for £22 Won’t grumble to much
Couldn't agree more. Played here the day after you and was no different. Fairways too long and rough way too long. Shame really as it could be a lovely course
