Icy Challenge
Frozen course (which we knew in advance but were just glad to get out and play) made for a tough but fun round. Greens although frozen were in great condition. A lovely course but can be challenging to navigate your way round on your first visit. Staff throughout are very friendly and a lovely warm clubhouse at the end. Very reasonably priced golf. We’ll be back.
Highly recommend a visit
The course played really well even with all the rain we’ve had and was fully open, it did have a few boggy patches but nothing compared to other courses we’ve played recently. The course has some fantastic holes that are framed by the surrounding trees making you think and plan more than a lot of courses, the 16th stands out in that there is a large tree in the middle and if you get to close to it you are blocked out by it, while a pond short right keeps you over to the left. This course in the drier summer months will be amazing and I’m sure we’ll be back to have a go then. The members that we spoke to were all friendly as were the staff and the amenities were clean, the only downside was the catering didn’t start till 11 o’clock.
Course should not have been open
Decided to play Thirsk on spur of the moment, on the way back from the North East, where there was a couple inches of snow on the ground.
Called earlier to check conditions and the report was that all 18 holes where open and not temp tees or greens. So it was a surprise to see the 1st fairway covered in snow, though only about 1/2" deep. While you could find an orange ball in the fairway, it was pot luck if you stayed. Consequently, spent considerable time looking for balls. Plus, was that I only lost 3, but found 6.
All the greens, or should I say whites, where covered in snow, so putting was a complete lottery. The ball would turn into a snowball when you hit it.
Finally decided to call it a day after 9 holes, as couldn't find reason to continue.
I should say, this wasn't a normal round of golf, and don't let this put anyone off, as I would still come back, as I do like the course, but you have to tell it as it is.
Lesson learnt, don't take the automated condition reports as a true reflection, and if in doubt, speak to a real person.
Well worth a visit
Open fairways. Excellent greens. Friendly members willing to give advice and directions
Greens had been worked on recently which is to be expected at this time of year however course was just below its normal standards. Greens have patchy grass coverage. Tee boxes, green approaches and general course condition just a little sub standard which is not normally like T&N.
Thirsk
Brilliant first time playing this course in superb conditions
The course was in excellent condition and well looked after
Recommend it to anyone
Wish I lived closer
Fantastic venue,
Course was in great condition for the time of year,
All the tee boxes and greens were in play.
A great test for any golfer.. I'm an 8 handicapper and found it a real good game
The surprising highlight for me... I lost my phone while on the course and when I asked in the pro shop if anyone had handed it in, I was given keys to a buggy to go round and ask groups if they had found it.. sure enough it had been picked up and so into the 19th I went for a lovely pint.. we sat outside looking across the course which I will definitely be playing again soon.
Good value twilight golf
£15 for a twilight round in mid May. Four holes done in 20 minutes, then sadly caught up with a glacial stableford competition. Managed 9 holes in 2 hours, and I then skipped back to 1 to play a few more before the light was replaced by gloom.
Course in decent nick, although the greens weren’t as true as they might have been.
Damp
Really difficult to judge based on conditions on the day.
Would have to play there again to have a fairer reflection on rating.
I actually lost 3 balls which were all on fairways but could not find due to masses of leaves and sodden ground were the ball just disappeared.
Excellent course
This is a great course & is in fabulous condition for the time of year. Greens are still fast & groundskeepers cleared leaves from the course as we played. Very enjoyable
Great course
Very enjoyable round. Very fair test and course in excellent condition. One small criticism...you can only access toilet through the club house entrance which is round the back and means you have to remove golf shoes! The easy access to toilets is only accessible for members via pin.
Course closed except members
I booked a tee at thirsk Northallerton on Monday the 19th the club house and pro shop were shut and members only playing I would like a credit or refund please
Good course
It would be better if some greens were a little bit further from the following tee boxes. Otherwise, the layout and the golf course is good enough to enjoy it
