Awful tees, awful fairways, horrendous greens, was like playing on a ploughed field at times. Not worth the money. Avoid this course
Could be a great course...
I played here last winter and the course was in poor condition which I thought was a shame as it has a reasonably good layout and some challenging holes. With the summer upon us I thought it would be a good opportunity to try it out again in the hope it would now be in good condition. Alas no, seems to be suffering from lack of investment. Although not unplayable, some of the fairways were ropey and majority of the greens were awful - seems they are not watered so are mainly just dead grass.
I think with investment the layout could make it a great course to play, but unfortunately I'm not going back unless things change significantly.
Great potential
The course has a good layout but the conditions of it let it down. It needs a bit of care for the fairway (very patchy) and the greens (bumpy and some in bad condition) then it would be a very good course.
The staff were nice, but the food options were poor. You may need to pop out to get something to eat or bring your own (until they hire a chef).
If they improve the fairways and greens, I would be keen on playing the course again.
Taxing
A nice walk. The course lay out is good. Difficult on a freezing winters day, when the fairways a boggy meadow. Par3 10th a nice hole over water. Found the greens OK tbf. Only paid a tenner, so that's about right at the moment.
poor greens
have played many courses in the area and this was definitely the worst, the greens were in terrible condition, not worth paying £30 for.
Extremely poor conditions
Is just a shame that this course is in such so bad conditions because the layout is great. Fairways are dirty and the grass is not well cut. The greens are in extremely bad there was a big hole in the 10th. (I even took a picture because this was unbelievable). The general maintenance of the course is poor. There is only one practice net which is completely destroyed and there seems no intention to replace it or repair. £30 to play in this course is really expensive, you can play in much better courses nearby for a similar price or even less. I am not coming back .
expensive for the quality delivered ...
Quite breeze but was a round of prep for comp the next weekend for me, so needed to get out. Fairways were more rough than anything on the front 9 (back better). most greens were either too full of pitch mark or skanky ... I think for 25£ ... i was expecting better than that. Photo of the worse green attached. Back 9 was OK ...
Potential
Lovely layout some serious plotting holes
Greens need a good bit of care good in places but terrible in others
all in all you can see the work going in will take time the potential is massive
Be careful not to price yourself out of the game
Lots of fun
The coarse has been laid out fantastically! A really good design and probably one of the best that I've played so far. If only it had the care it deserves.
I felt that the coarse had been allowed to get in to a worse state than was acceptable. Even though it had been dry for a good few weeks, there was plenty of water there in the ponds which makes me think that the greens, which were at this point only half alive, had large areas of bumpy, dry soil where grass used to be and were clearly not being cared for properly, could really do with a new set of sprinklers. I personally would love to see the greens get the attention they deserve. It is obvious that there was a lot of money spent on the coarse when it was built.
A few of the bunkers were also looking quite in need of a little tlc.
Overall I would say it really should be on everyones list of coarses played/to play. The staff were friendly and willing to give advice. The atmosphere was friendly and regulars were quite happy to help or let you play through.
I will play there again and I am actively encouraging my friends to go too. Please don't let the state of greens put you off. It is only a small part of the coarse after all and the getting to them is the best bit anyway.
I hope you all go and enjoy it as much as I did.
challenging features
Hadn't played course for some time and so had forgotten how difficult it can be!
Interesting course with numerous hazards and features which can catch out the unwary, particularly if you have not played there before. Need to be on your game to score well and high handicappers can be punished if not accurate.
A good test of your all round game.
Disgustingly slow play
Played on a Saturday at 12.42. Staff were very friendly. However, walked off after 12 holes as there was two large societies playing. Won't go back, should ask for a refund
Far too expesnive
Not worth £35 when you can play pine ridge for the same money and it's far far superior
Really enjoyable.
Very testing and enjoyable course. Greens need a bit of work but very much playable. Worth a visit!
One of the worst courses I've played
What can I say £35 for greens that looked like they had just had a park run on them...I won't say any more as I'll give myself tourettes.
Fun and challenging course
Played for the first time Twisted Stone (old Traditions). The club is now under new management and they are working hard to make it better. The course is fun and challenging. Lots of water and hidden fairways (need to aim at the barber poles). Par 5 and 3 are really good. The greens are somehow dry but playable. The tees also need some more maintenance. But anyway still a good course and will definitively repeat.
Tired
The course is in need of some money spent on it. The greens admittedly had just had work done on them, but bearing in mind this is the May Day bank holiday weekend, the course should be in good condition to play - especially at the prices being charged
Value for money
Slightly run down and old fashioned club house, but made to feel welcome.
Not the best kept course, rather scruffy in parts. However a challenging course with some interesting features. I had a beautiful shot to the 6th green (I think), heading for the pin, only to hit the over head power lines. Nice par 3 10th over water.
Good pace of play, with a four ahead of me allowing me through, with a waive and some banter.
On arrival pro shop locked up We could find no member of staff anywhere.Could not register or get score cards just went over to 1st tee.Much of course was like a swamp, pathways were potholed full of water .Bunkers were terrible.Impression was of a course with no maintenance although greens were not too bad.
It's a lake at the moment but will be a course i will play once the water has gone.
