Fairways or Rough, you decide.
Shocking course conditions, there is no fairways, they are the same length as the rough. Every group I saw was always looking for their ball on the fairway as you could not find them in the fairway jungle.
If they are unable to maintain the course due to the weather, then close it as it was like playing a council course.
You arrive to a private gate and think this could be a nice course, but no, the greens were bumpy, fairways non-existent and the pace of play was shocking. Overall considering a full 7-day membership is £1440 this course is seriously not well kept.
Boggy
Course to boggy in places . Lost balls because of plugging in middle of the fairway.
Definitely go again !!
Fantastic place, course was in very good layout and great condition even with the hot weather.
Staff was friendly and helpful, members on the course was chatty and friendly,
I can’t wait to book again .
Needs attention
The time of year/weather may have a bearing on this review so I’m trying not to be too critical.
Staff were very welcoming upon arrival and guided me to changing facilities and 1st tee.
The course in general was waterlogged and muddy in large patches, greens mostly sand. A lot of leaves across the course making it difficult to find a ball in the rough and sometimes putting impacted too.
The course layout wasn’t signposted very well and no course layout on scorecards made me believe it was a 9 hole course as I found myself back at the 1st tee instead of the 10th.
Walked off after 10 holes due to the above.
Hidden Gem
I work in the area a lot so thought I would give the course a try, it really is a little gem of a course. What it lacks in length in makes up in character and quality of conditions. Don’t get me wrong you can get the big dog out but it’s a strategic course! Pace of play was slow and a 3 ball in front refused to let me through!
That said, I would absolutely return and for 20 quid this was a bargain! Some of the best greens I’ve played on all year! And I’ve played some golf…as the Mrs lol!
Superb course
This course is the best I've played so far this year. A one condition from tee to green. Had a fantastic round with no hold ups at all. Really enjoyed the experience on this mature beautiful course. Can't wait to play again, hope I can play as well as yesterday.
Great Course
Great course, looked after unlike many others. Fairways trimmed nicely, greens very clean and even the rough looked well maintained. A definite recommendation and hard to beat for the price of £20.
Winter Review (not for summer)
So this review is for Winter (after the rains in Feb/Mar)
I have played this course a few times in the summer and the conditions were night and day.
The Good
-The pro shop was very friendly and accommodating.
-The greens (that were playable) were well kept.
The Bad
-I booked through Golf Now and there was nothing to say it was "carry only" and that there were going to be temp greens.
-Despite getting the ok from the pro to use or push trolly - most of the members told us off on the course.
-Add to that we were behind a four-ball that was on a leisurely 9 hole run. I had no problems with that but the four ball behind kept yelling at us to go - despite seeing that we could reach the greens in regulation. They were pushing us to drop a ball on the four-ball in front!
-As I mentioned the greens were good - however, there were 5 temp greens. Two were temp for an hour or so as they were cutting them .... right in prime time golf hours (why not first thing in the morning or in the evening)?
-However, three were sanded - they knew these greens were going to be out of commission all day long and no notice. *Just bad business.
***Finally, I belong to a course close by to Walsall. It is supposed to be a pretty wet course in the Winter.
-This was the wettest course I have ever played. As a comparison, I played my home club the day before with only a couple of holes that were tough to play due to wet fairway conditions.
-At Walsall, I lost my shoe in the mud twice as the mud was so deep.
-It was really poor and really not good at all.
-I would strongly suggest you play anywhere else if it has been rainy.
NOW, in the summer the course is totally different and very enjoyable.
Hidden gem
A wonderful peaceful place for a beautiful round of golf.
Not worth £25
I have played this course in the summer and it is a nice layout with good greens. In the winter though the poor drainage ruins it. I have played rugby on better pitches than the fairways. Good shots punished by the ball plugging and being lost.
