Obviously going out of business soon
Overall course was in terrible shape, worst I have seen in CT and I have played a lot of courses. Tee boxes were crab grass, fairways were dirt, and greens were dead and barely puttable.
The area, scenery, and layout however is very good. It’s a shame because this course could be really good with some fixing/management.
No good if you can't get out
Tried to get out on this course this spring. Made a tee time and showed up and no one was there to open up the place or get us a cart. We walked it then payed on the way out. When I complained the head pro gave us a free round to make up for it. He said he'd had a fender bender on the way in that morning. OK accidents happen so I let it pass.
This morning my group and I went back to try again. One of them had driven from 25 miles away to get there. We had a 7:30 tee time. Again no one there to open up. We waited until 7:50 then just left . We had plans for later and couldn't wait all morning. By that time there were 3-4 groups waiting to go out. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I won't be going back there again. Don't know how they are going to stay open with that level of customer service.
Absolute trash
not sure if the lease is up or they just don't care but this was by far the worst maintained course I have ever been to in my life. When you try to put on the greens and crab grass is growing out of the center, half of the greens are burnt black the grass isn't being cut and the fairways have more dirt than grass it's an absolute embarrassment. This course should not be on GolfNow and they shouldn't be taking any money to play at this course.
Not as bad as it looks
This course has seen better days however it's a great layout with challenging holes (some might say too challenging). They appear to be hurting financially which is a shame because I hate to see any golf course go away. The price they charge reflects the conditions - which really aren't that bad. There was some weeds in a few traps and the greens don't look to good (mainly burnt) however they were very "puttable". The pace of play is great because there's hardly anybody playing the course. I hope they hang in there so i'll play there again. If you're looking for a challenging round at a more that reasonable price, please play Tower Ridge and keep them afloat!
wow. Poor conditions
This course should not be on golfnow to book. Anyone that went that expected a normal golf course would be disappointed. It had very poor fairways. Basically not kept up. Layout was good, but it is not worth playing unless you just want to play cheap or take someone who is learning, etc.
Challenging course
The course is very difficult. Sadly the condition was in rough shape probably because of the hot weather. It is a fun layout with lots of character to many holes. The wildlife was awesome as we encountered about a 400 pound bear, some wild turkeys, herons, and a hawk.
So disappointing
I've played this course a lot over the past three years and it just keeps getting worse and worse. That's unfortunate because I think it's one of the most beautiful locations for a course I've played in Connecticut.
I'd say it'd almost be worth playing for a deep discount if the greens were playable. I can overlook the poor fairway conditions and rock hard bunkers, but combined that with the extremely burned out greens and you have a course that isn't worth playing. The greens were so burned they were crunchy under my feet in spots. It's just sad.
Have they spent any money on maintaing the golf course?
Do not waste your money! The best thing about the golf course is the spectacular views! The course is in terrible condition! There was one hole that I hit the middle of the green with a high floating shot (ball hit right near the flag), the ball bounced 3 times--HIGH in the air like a tennis ball ball! Never seen anything like it! No drinking water on the course, no water in the golf ball washers, weeds everywhere, bushes are all over grown,--most of the fairways, tee boxes and greens are brown or bare spots. The bunkers are not playable. Very sad! Used to be a dynamite course! There is virtually no "pro shop" (no inventory). We only saw 5 other people (suckers) on the course all day! I will not be going back. However, since nobody was on the course, the pace of play was perfect! and never had to yell "fore"! Fortunately, I played with a really good friend of mine and we still had fun!
Tower Ridge Review
I’ve played this course quite a number of times a few years back but apparently it’s under new management and it’s not properly maintained. From dried out fairways, weeds all over the course, unkept sand traps and even some tee boxes were not maintained.
I told a friend about this course and he drove over 100 miles from NY to play. I felt terrible...this course should be removed from GolfNow.
worst course
the condition of this golf course was horrible. burned out fairways, sand traps full of weeds and greens so bad you couldn't even putt. going to call Golfnow to see if i can get my money back or credit.
Course is dead!
This course hasn’t been taken care of in months! The greens look like they haven’t seen water. Tee boxes are over grown. It was sad to see. The course has a nice layout. Could be an amazing course, just needs someone to care for it
Not worth a dollar
I played this course last year and it was a blast. This year the course was overgrown, underwatered, and had dead spots all over the greens and fairways. It looks like whoever owns it doesn’t care what happens to it. The course and pro shop look like they are going out of business. We booked on golf now for $39 which is very cheap, but wasn’t worth a penny. Sad to see how this course has been treated and taken care of. I will not be returning to this course. From now on I will play pequabuck in Bristol,CT for $35 and save money while playing a great course.
Tower Ridge Golf Club
The views are Spectacular but the remainder of the course is in disrepair. Also their is no drinking water or cart person make sure you bring something to eat as the restaurant is not open
Awful!
This place is really bad...everything other than the Pro Shop was closed. The rough hadn't been cut is some time. No carts were out when I checked in...had to wait 15 minutes for the check in guy to go get a cart, clean it and bring it around front...still all wet...didn't even wipe it off.
Course is difficult, needs some work
the carts paths were beat up and most of the greens were in good shape accept for a couple that needed some help, traps had grass growing out of them, the fairways were in Great shape, the second hole needs some map to show were the hole is as there are 2 Flags and we mistakenly were hitting to the wrong flag, you also do a lot of zig zagging navigating the holes on the course
Great layout
First time there, Great layout with spectacular views. Amenities were sparse The course needs water and some attention. It appears that at one time this a premier golf destination
Beautiful Day
The course surroundings are gorgeous! Now that we’ve played here a couple of times, and know the course layout, we’d love to golf here again! Our only complaint would be the difficulty we had finding our ball in the rough, but that makes it more important to keep it in the fairway! We’ll definitely be back!
