Hope they can save it
Tower Ridge is a nice mountain course with some challenging holes. Unfortunately, the drought last year has not been recovered from and a number of their greens are in real trouble. Rather than tell you not to play there, I would tell you the opposite. We played on Sunday and there was a groundskeeper working hard on one of the greens. They are trying. Go play a round and hopefully the money will be well spent by them in trying to bring the greens back. The views from holes five, six, and seven are beautiful. Would hate to lose this course.
Beautiful views; greens need TLC
A wonderful day, great pace of play and friendly golfers lost on the Course. The fairways are in good condition but the greens are worn down. Enjoyed the day but .....Tower Ridge is a treasure and should be presented that way at all times.
Mysteriously terrible conditions
Played here with a couple friends for the first time in a couple years. Things keep going downhill at this place and you have to wonder if it's back on the brink of bankruptcy. Just to start, the parking lots are crumbling, weeds are now over growing everywhere. The old tennis court looks like something you would find in an inner city condemned building. The cart paths alone will give you back pain from driving over them, all cracked and bumping, often not even knowing where the next tees are set. As for the course? My goodness. They don't have anyone there that knows what they are doing. Greens are not cut correctly, fairways are missing grass, under-watered in some areas, over-watered in others. Sprinklers leaking causing mud pits. The greens were the slowest I've ever seen. Hairy, uncut, footprints, ball marks, missing areas of grass, bunkers flooded out, missing sand, teeing areas not even properly aligned or marked. Improperly done aeration, no top dressing. This course is a pasture, it's not playable. They should also redesign about 5 or 6 holes and if you play it you would understand what I mean. This is a mystery to me because the land is gorgeous and breathtaking at the top. It's a tragic, really. They should shut this place down and either sell it to a home developer and make good use of the land or scrap it and start over with a group that has a clue.
Awful
I have played this course a few times before. (not in a couple of years) It has always been a good place to play. This time all the tee boxes and fairways were overgrown with weeds and big dirt patches. The greens were even worse. They all had dirt patches and were uncut. They appeared to have been recently fertilized. The ball turned green and stained my fingers when I picked up the ball.
Don't go in the bar. For three beers and a mixed drink, we were charged $22.50, and that was happy hour prices.
Course is shot
I love the course layout and scenic views. It's a challenging course with little forgiveness for those awful shots. But when I played in mid-September of 2017 the course was unplayable. The greens don't have grass, the aerified greens aren't properly filled in and mowing hasn't been done in well over 10 days.
Don't play here
Got this for a chrap price on golf now, if I hadnt, I would have fought for a refund. Course has completely fallen apart over last 2 years. Hadn't played since 2015 because of conditions and won't ever play again.
Greens were loaded with sand, ball bounced everywhere, loaded with dirt after every putt. Fairways missing grass everywhere. Tee boxes missing grass. No water coolers. Saw 3-4 staff members throughout the day , none were ever working. Sitting on course chatting or on cell phones.
Parking lot and abandoned tennis courts are an eye sore. Besides a few nice views around holes 4-8ish, this course is in rough conditon. Read the 1 star reviews below. Do not play unless you get a discounted time.
Condition Down
I have played this course in the past and even though they had a sign in the Pro Shop stating the reasons for the poor conditions they in my opinion should not be selling tee times on-line. Most of the fairways were okay with the greens being almost unplayable with bare spots on some up to 50%, I will not go there again for some time until they get the course back in shape maybe next fall.
Awful
I play Tower Ridge a few times a year and it has my favorite views from any course I've played in Connecticut on the front nine, but the course is in atrocious shape. The greens range from awful to unplayable. They really need to close down and fix the greens because they are rough.
Great Potential
First time playing this course. Condition is fair at best but effort to improve is visible. Staff was welcoming and very helpful. Tee boxes are average. Fairways were rough in spots requiring us to play ball up often. Many greens had bare spots but overall they putted true and fast. This course has a great potential to be a classic "mountain side" type of track. We will return and believe this course deserves to be supported so the new owners can get it back to a better condition.
Good Course gone bad
Arrived at course at 8:00AM, Pro shop closed, only 1 outside service employee, told us to take a cart and come back in after nine to pay, First tee box in terrible shape, 1st fairway plenty of clover and crab grass, 1st green had hundreds of dead grass ball marks like putting though a mine field, walked across the street and looked at another green(#13), this green was in worst shape that green #1. We took carts back to Pro shop , Still not open, went down the road and played at another golf course. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND,
NO
It's a disaster. It is mostly dirt and sand. What was once a private course in superb condition is a disaster. Without funds it won't get better but why would you pay anything to putt on sand and drive from dirt. The layout was never great, many back and forth holes, and now there is really nothing to bring you there.
What happened here?
I used to play this course a couple times a year. The conditions were never pristine but they were always pretty good. No idea what happened here but the conditions are absolutely horrendous. no reason for that after the summer we've been having. 9th green is the worst green I've ever seen. Embarrassing.
The greens were absolutely horrible, some areas were completely void of grass and it appeared that some cups had not been changed for an extended period of time. I had played a few times in the past and found it to be a enjoyable place to play - what happened?
Scenic, but in bad shape
The greens are trash. The fairway was very rough. The sand traps are rock hard. The course is scenic and has gorgeous views, but not worth the money or playing.
Don't go here
Course must be going bankrupt and closing soon...Looks like an abandoned course in many areas...sad...Waste of a time golfing here and it is playing in the side of a mountain...Great scenery on some holes due to being on a mountain, that's it...If you wanna walk it bring your wheaties and mountain climbing gear,
I chose this course because they said no charge for my wife to just ride and when we arrived and check-in, they charged me for my wife to ride due to the heavy booking that day. Well when I teed off it was just two of us playing golf (what heavy booking!). The first few holes were ok, but after that.. thank God for the other golfer who joined my wife and I because I would have gotten lost. The 9th hole was so bad that there was more sand than grass. Who would put a hole in a green that is clearly under repair? On this day there was no temporary green set up and there should have been. The other golfer left after 9 holes and I got lost looking for the tenth hole. I was so disappointed that I walked off the course after 11 holes. I have 4 coupons left that I will not use due the conditions of this course and the poorly maintained golf roads. I would be embarrassed to give my remaining coupons to any of my friends.
Both my wife and I did not feel that it was worth the time spent driving to this golf course; it took us about an hour to get there from where we live.
A few quirky holes.
A decent enough course but not someplace I'd run back to. Some difficult holes with elevation changes and some narrow landing areas. A few nice views. Conditions were just average, tees and fairways were a bit weedy and on the high side and the greens on the slow side. Someone was doing some shooting nearby which was distracting. Small 6 mat driving range and a decent putting and chipping green with a bunker. Restaurant had good food at good prices.
