A real pity
Whitehills is a very nice course that's a reasonable distance from where I live in Stevenage. Generally, the course is in good condition and has a very nice setting in the Hertfordshire counrtyside. That said, I won't ever be playing there ever again for one reason alone, pace of play! This is now the third time I've had to play behind a society golf do, and yet again the etiquette was shocking. Absolutetly no chance of being allowed to play through, even when they only only managed to hit it 40 or 50 yards, and proceed to look for lost balls for over 10 minutes a time. The upshot of this was that the 2 ball playing behind me gave up on the 10th hole and my own round took over 5 hours to complete a course I can easily get round in 3. In short, totally disgusting.
Country Course
Beautiful countryside gem of a course.
Layout was challenging, course was in very good condition despite the heavy rain recently.
My partners shoe sole detached during the round (hilarious), and after a phone call the pro shop caddied down a new set of shoes for him to finish the round with (yes, we had the buy them after, which was expected).
Great course, great club, lovely staff.
Well maintained course
Course and greens were in very good condition for the time of year. The Green keeping staff were hard at work across the course during our visit, but were very respectful and allowed us to play through without interruption.
Look forward to returning in the summer.
Slow play by members groups forced quitting after 9
We booked for mid day expecting a good day out. However playing the first 6 holes in 1 hour and the next 3 holes in one more hour meant that we would still be playing after sunset. In front of us were a young 4 ball followed by a mid aged 3 ball. Both groups should have been capable of a reasonable speed and there was free space in front. Both groups were very slow and seemed not to know how to get efficiently round a golf course. Once we caught up there were three opportunities to let us play through but we were ignored then held up on every shot. Taking 20 minutes per hole for our final 3 holes. The course layout and condition was reasonable for a parkland in winter. We were recommended by senior friends to try it out as a good course but we were disappointed as it was very average.
Great course but pricey
Made for a great challenging course with the wind and well designed holes. Rather pricey for a round in my opinion
Really enjoyable day
The course was a great test. Greens were excellent. After the round, clubhouse facilities were also fantastic. All around a great venue.
Ideal Conditions
We decided to play Whitehill as it's a good location for the various players in our group. Despite the recent heavy rain it was in great shape and is well maintained. The course is a good challenge with the wind adding to that! We had a great competition and the holes lend themselves well to matchplay down the stretch with a driveable 17th par 4. Great value for money and very friendly staff made for a very enjoyable day.
Lovely course, beautifully maintained
Varied layout, pretty parkland setting, plenty of hills, water and tricky tee and green positions. really interesting play.
Really excellent rural golf
This is an excellent course and in extremely good condition. The fairways and greens are great. The tee boxes are good. And it is a thoughtful challenging course. My only minor quibbles are that there were a few areas that were a bit boggy given recent rain and the pace of play was slow on the back nine. Otherwise a fantastic day at a very welcoming course
We did not have any grievance spoken to any of my staff on the day. Yes the course was busy, but every group in every tee-time should adhere to the etiquette of golf. If we had been told that groups were not we would have spoken to them. It is also advisable to call any golf club if you are a 1 ball to try to play at a time where you can play at your desirable pace of play.
