Buck up BarcStaff
Good course other than very slow pace of play. Unwelcoming proshop. Bar staff need to buck up their ideas about customer service.
Great condition
Course was great unfortunately the 2 ball group in front were exceptionally slow and didn't just to let us play through
Ok for £20
Very busy as expected as it’s an hotel course. Good test of golf with plenty of water and very large bunkers.
Greens in good condition, fairways and tees look well used.
Didn’t think much of the pro shop, lad serving not that interested. Always like to get a ball marker, none left.
Bunkers !!!
Over 70 bunkers on course ( spoke to green keepers ! ) all well maintained although a bit bare around edges…. Greens ok and course in decent condition considering only 5 greenkeepers employed at present… with a few more, course could be excellent as all challenging holes
Excellent lay out
Course lay out was excellent with a good mix of water and bunkers to make you think your way around.
It was very wet on and off but greens held up well.
Tee boxes need some TLC but they don’t hugely impact the feel for the course. Just not as aesthetically pleasing on the eye.
Good bar with food and plenty of choice on the beer front. Pool table also present to keep you amused if staying overnight which I would definitely do next time.
Will definitely return
Great course with risk and rewards for a great price
Blown away with how friendly and accommodating staff were. Very cheap for Sunday at lunchtime tee off, anywhere else would have been double the price, and with everything going up in the world was well impressed. Will definitely be back and maybe even look into a membership. Keep up the good work guys.
Wokefield
Nice course, could do with some more yardage markers on certain holes like number 2. Greens were pretty good but quite pitted in places. The holes themselves were a good layout and selection for all levels. Definitely a buggy course, that walk between 9-10!!!
Good days golf
Very very hot weather. Fairways dry and hard. Greens good. Long course on very hot day with course dry but in good condition, energy sapped towards the end but the course was great. Interesting water features and dog legs to make you think but ok for high handicappers as well. Staff friendly. Took a break after first nine for cold drinks break in the bar. Good facilities. A good day's golf. It's on our regular rota of local courses.
Friendly staff and an interesting course.
Although play was slow, greens were excellent, interesting course and the staff were great (Jaime behind the bar and the chap in the pro shop). Will definitely return but make sure we aren’t following a comp!
Suffering from the dry weather
Good and interesting course.
Very dry fairways but greens in good condition.
Tee boxes could do with some care and attention as all a bit rough.
Needs some love and respect
Lovely lay out, very dry in areas due to the ongoing warm spell, so played like a links course in areas.
Very slow near 5 hour round on a Sunday afternoon, seemed the same for everyone, waiting on most shots and tees for the traffic in front, tee boxes are very worn and tired.
If people had some more respect for the course that would help, so greens were really pitted with pitchmarks,
I was repairing at least 5 most greens.
Challenging set up with many tees to choose from, the whites were chosen by me, still bringing all the danger into play.
Green were pretty consistent, bunkers need some stone removal and TLC.
Would happily play there again if it wasn't as slow, just for the different shots that are required at times....driver every par 4 or 5 isn't the best play.
Very rough.
The rough was very rough. No chance of finding a ball in the very long grass which was very close to the semi rough.lost 8 balls. Americans would hate that. Needs more attending too. But good course overall. Ran out of time though and single player did not let us through even though we caught up to him twice. Lots of bunkers and water. But very enjoyable. Car parking is a problem though and lots of cars on the grass verges. Would definitely return. Hard to find golf shop as not well signposted for first time players.
Lovely course - just a shame about the pace of play.
Working shift work as I do, I sometimes find it difficult to organise golf outings with friends. For this reason, I often book a round on Golf Now last minute just to get out to play as a single player. Usually this works well at most local courses, which aren’t usually particularly busy on weekdays. However, this venue is a completely different story. It’s obviously a corporate venue for golf outings and golf breaks, which is fine. That said, a little organisation of tee times would no doubt work wonders.
Arrived at first tee on time and was greeted by a couple of groups and some kind of marshal. I was told in the pro shop that I would be playing as the last player in a group of 4, which I thought was fair enough, based on the good value of the booking. However, the group I was in said I could go ahead and play as a single, which I was happy about, honestly speaking - thought it was very kind of them. The course marshal gave me a little course advice too before I hit my first tee shot - also a nice touch.
Basically then got on and played my round. In terms of the course, the setup is pretty tricky with water/strategically placed bunkers everywhere, so focus on plotting your way safely around the course is definitely required. The condition of the course too is lovely - a good challenge for a player of my standard, for sure.
All this said, where this course falls down is on pace of play/general organisation. Had a fourball in front of me, then I think they had multiple groups of four in front of them. This meant each time I finished a hole I was greeted by the group in front just finishing there tee shots and setting off down the fairway, which basically added up to quite a bit of waiting on each tee - am pretty patient, but think this can get to anyone after a while. Honestly speaking, almost called it a day after 9 holes. However, I persevered, as I was there to play a full round that I had paid for.
Think generally the pace of play did improve a little on the back nine, but the group in front at no point even thought to offer to let me play through, as if maybe I wasn’t even there. I mean, not sure if it would have helped if they had let me play through, as would have likely been faced with the same problem with the groups in front of them. I think all of this could have been solved with staggered tee times and some kind of marshalling against slow play on the course.
Based on this experience, am not sure if I would go back and play this course again, which is a real shame as honestly think it is a lovely course in great shape. Anyway, don’t usually write reviews very often if everything is fine. However, am just writing this in the hope that it might lead to a change in how tee times are organised at this venue in future.
A good round at Wokefield Park
Played with colleagues after work and all enjoyed it.
Dropped 1star due to the condition of the tees which were not up to the standard of the rest of the course .
