Great Mountain Course
This was a spectacular course with some very pretty views of the mountains and some challenging holes. Some unique features included a "rock garden" and a par 3 with a big winding creek in front of the green. Challenging for those with some experience but also good for beginners.
Beware
Golfing here for the first time, so I booked through Golfnow. The owner there does not like Golfnow and you have to hear negativity about it. He also was going to charge my wife to ride along after I had called and was told she could ride complimentary. I will not golf here ever again until a new management company/owner takes over the course. Go play Marion Lake, Boone, or Mountain Glen....they know how to treat a customer.
Gr8 layout, foothills course with nice elevation changes.
Course bought out 4 mos. ago by pro from Kiawah Is., so they are hard working on restoring course conditions.
That said greens were the one area that prev. owners didn't slip on maintaining, they were in very good shape, great speed, challenging slopes even on the valley holes.
Tee boxes are fine, as are most fairways, a few of them on flat areas have had some issues with creek flooding/drainage from heavy rains in the summer. They are putting a lot of work and $$ into refurbing those areas.
Very nice layout with varied terrain. A mountain area foothills course, many holes with fun though not extreme elevation changes. Creeks winding through most of the course, and some great mtn views.
Pro shop is minimalist with snacks & pckg beverages so you'll have to tailgate the 19th.
DBruce
I have played golf all over the US and UK. This is a course worth playing. Beautiful layout, picturesque, pretty good conditions, great value. Fair for the ladies also.
Challenging beauty
Despite what the golfer from Marion had to say about this course, it is in very good shape. The greens are excellent. They are very receptive (soft) but very smooth and a good speed for the average golfer. I found no green to be unfair in its slope or pin placements. Yes the first cut outside the fairways is generally going to cost you a stroke and the rough beyond this first cut will frequently mean a lost ball so novice golfers will have a tough time here. Hit the fairways is always a good game plan. I like the fact that mid and low handicap players(I'm a 7.6 index) will not be able to use driver off of all the par 4's. You have to think, not just get up there and try to smash a driver. Oh did I mention that the setting is also beautiful. Be careful of yardage on the par 3's. It can be quite different than what is on the card. Look for the yardage markers on the tee boxes.
Shaggy
Course is very challenging on its own, but then you add 6" rough and 4 or five no-grass fairways. Balls lost in rough . Can't find unless you step on it. When you find it it's difficult to advance. Fairways are very narrow the rough comes into play far too often.
Greens were beautiful. Course layout and visuals were spectacular, but losing so many balls takes the fun out. Don't know what they're thinking.
Staff acted like they were sorry we showed up.
Excellent Greens
First, It was cart path only which made it extremely tough on me do to leg problems. The greens are as good as any you will play. Due to the rain the prior two days, the rough hasn't been cut for awhile and was extremely difficult. Just off the greens the roughs were 6 to 8 inches tall. Overall, I would recommend the course if the roughs are cut and it isn't cart path only.
Beautiful setting - nature all around - peaceful
This is a golf course you should not miss. Most of the course is in great shape. Just a few areas that were ground under repair. Every hole is different and a delight to experience and play. My daughter & son in-laws visit next week. For sure we will take them there to play. The course is surrounded by mountains with varying elevations from tee to greens but not so severs to make it un-enjoyable.-- to the contrae:, it is a wonderful course to play.
One of the best we have played near Banner Elk.
terrible course
the golf course is terriblethey said off the fairway was a little high the grass is up to your knees cut the grass would not recommend this course for anyone
Linville Falls will again be a top quality course
We played Linville Falls a couple of years ago, and even though it was a fun layout, the conditions were only acceptable at best. Since that time, the course has changed owners a couple of times, with the latest change occurring in the last 30-days. The new owner seems to be committed to making this facility a top notch golf destination. We played 18-holes yesterday, and the course conditions seem to be on the way back. The greens were in great condition, a little slow, but that's to be expected with bent grass in the hot summer months. Some of the fairways and tees were in decent condition, some were not, but we could see where the conditions are being addressed and work is under way. A few months from now, Linville Falls will be a different golf course condition-wise, and we're looking forward to a return visit. As it is now, it is still a very playable and fun course, and for the price, a great value. Give it a try...
About this course
My review of this course is average. The greens are in good shape. The fairways have lots of dead spots, I was finding it hard on some holes to find grass on my approach shot. The Pro shop is high dollar for the quality of the fairways. I would recommend anyone to play here.
Same old story, great course, no money!
I live in Florida where many courses are operating on a shoestring so I am not surprised to run into that situation again. Linville Falls is a beautiful layout just off the high rise into the Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Boone area so it gets less attention than the courses at the higher elevations. I played this course for three years in a row now and I have never seen it crowded with a full tee sheet. On this trip our car stood out in the parking lot, all alone. Pace of play was whatever we made it.
The course had apparently just changed hands over the preceding weekend. The conditions were the worst I had seen in the three years I played there but conditions were never pristine the entire time. Surprisingly, the greens were good albeit a touch on the slow side probably because they were full of grass except for a few damaged areas. They had a pretty tough Winter so that explains a bit of the problems on the course. Some of the fairways were very stressed showing large areas of dead grass. But, there was a lot of maintenance activity on the course with spraying taking place aggressively so maybe here is hope for the conditions to improve.
This is a fun layout that will keep your interest throughout the round. At the current prices it is a steal even with the conditioning problems.
First time
I've wanted to play this course for a while, and I finally got the chance. It's a nice course in a beautiful location. The fairways are a bit narrow, but it was probably a bit short for me from the white tees. The greens were perfect. Great value for the money. There were a number of retirees playing the day I was there, so the pace was a bit slow.
love this course cant wait to play it again
Love the views and the course layout. Its a course that is challeging but fun. Will be back!
This course rocks!
I love this place . Difficult from the tups ! Par is 71 handicap is 72.1. Slope of 138.
There is no swag for sale in the clubhouse. Or I'd be sporting a shir or two. Told all my friends about it,.! Try to play here every time I work in the mountains of North Carolina.
Rough around the edges
This is a very nice layout and could be an excellent golf course. The fairways and greens were not yet grown in after a harsh winter so when the course does grow in it should be a lot better.
I could tell by the condition of the tees and around the greens that this course just is not that well manicured. It is a very nice layout with some very challenging holes. Scenery is fantastic.
Lovely little course
I really enjoy playing this course. It's fairly flat for a mountain course. The mountain views on the back nine are beautiful!
Great getaway course
Fun place to play. Greens good and very quiet. Had a great time with a challenging golf course design.
course was in great shape
weather was so cold that i was the only one on the course all day long but i had a blast. the course was great and i enjoy playing it often. the manager of the course was rude to me regarding hunting golf balls which every golfer does when they play cause thats just part of golfing and he offended me by doing so. he needs to take lessons on dealing with the public. i recommend this course to my friends. thanks
This course is fun and beautiful to play.
This is the second time I have played the course. I plan to play it some more in the future.
I love Golf now for the hard work getting good tee times for everyone. Thanks,
Did you see any snakes?
