Challenging & great
Although recent rains has inundated the course, the course is well maintained. The staff was cordial. The par 5's were pretty challenging. Do bring a copy of your confirmation or be able to show it on your mobile.
I love the layout of the course and the views are awesome. Fairways need to be mowed but could tell they have had a ton of rain.
The sky is the limit for this course, just needs to dry out and a little attention on the fairways and bunkers.
Course in good condition despite about 10+ days of rain. Have played course previously. The special from Golf Now is an outstanding bargain.
Course in good shape despite all of the rain. Good drainage. Have played the course previously and the scenery is outstanding. Also, greens in good shape. Our group travels about a hour to get there. There regular fee is somewhat high compared to others in the area. Would be more likely to return if I could get another Golf Now special.
Pace was double sided.. We were about the only 2 groups on the course (probably due to the wetness of the area). We never felt pushed. At the same time, it was cart path only because of the wetness. All in all, good!
course has a great layout-a mountain course that's flat.
Linville Falls Golf Club.
We arrived at Appx. 11:30 from our house (2 counties east, also a mountain are). Rain fell at a heavy pour. When we entered the club house, only one person was present. I told him we had a 1:00 tee time with GOLF NOW. I noticed one green was under water. I asked him directly was the course open, and he said it was. (Aside from our car , his car, and 2 cars from out of state, the lot was empty. The bottom line - He said the course was open, and no rain checks and GOLF NOW, wouldn't validate a refund or rain check. Either way, I was going to lose $47.00. We decided to play, what a shame; Please look at pictures on Holes 7,8 and tee box on 9. Number 18 was standing water. I know; On Sunday afternoon when no regulars or members are playing, he has told them - COURSE CLOSED. I have played golf in appx. 30-35 states, 6 yrs in New Orleans. And I never played with 4-6 inches of water on greens.
Keeping score was impossible. I think GOLF NOW should step in and compensate our $47.00 or rain check us. (Here attached are our pictures.)
Thanks, if someone would look at the situation and use common sense.
Challenging but FUN!
Keep the ball in th fairway otherwise you will have a long day. Tight fairways but course is in GREAT shape!
Great course even when wet
It had rained almost every day for two weeks and this course was in great shape. You could even still drive on most of the fairways. The greens were great and held the ball super. A must play.
Great course/Beautiful features
The course was in great shape and the greens were excellent. Beautiful layout with mountain creek running throughout the course. A must play.
Linville Falls was a well manicured course, plenty of natural obstacles (ie, rocky creeks borded fairways on several holes), A great course to play!

Beautiful course in mountain setting
The course was beautiful and it great condition in spite of heavy rain for a couple days prior. Greens were fast and difficult. Some blind shots and interesting features. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this course.
good course but needs attention
not busy, although we had a tee time we could have teed off anytime. snack bar is only open fri/sat/sun.no other food within 10 miles. no water on the course. located in the mountains the course is generally flat. course layout is good with a variety of holes but the course could use some tender loving care. charged us $5 for a non-golfer rider.
Great layout, spotty conditions, poor staff.
I enjoy playing Linville Falls. I think the layout is excellent, but wish it was in better condition. BE SURE TO PRINT OFF YOUR RECEIPT AND SHOW THEM AT THE DESK!!! On every Golfnow booking before, all I've had to do was book it and they were sent an email and our names were down upon arrival to the course. However, Linville Falls has no computer, so they can't verify it. The man behind the counter was extremely rude, stating that we could not play if I didn't somehow prove to him I booked it and that it was not his problem. He offered me a phone number I could use to call Golfnow. Luckily I had an iPod in the car where I had pulled up the reservation before I left home. Not sure how many golf courses do not have a computer whatsoever to be able to verify these things, but this one does not.
Shot makers will love this place.
Course was in very good condition and the greens were smooth. Several elevation changes gives a golfer a chance to choose the right club when more than yardage is the issue. Even if it's a par four, don't pull out the driver right away, take a close look at the fairway. Choosing an iron is sometimes the best choice. I plan to go back as soon as I can. The guys in the proshop made us feel very welcome.
Very enjoyable course. Exceptional value!
The course some in good condition. Pace of play was excellent. We had very little waiting and no one was pushing us. For the money, it would be hard to beat!
Exceptional Value
Well laid out mountain course with beautiful views and maintained conditions. Not for the novice as this course demands accuracy and shot making skills to shoot low.A relaxing round on a very nice mountain course! I recommend to all except the beginners.
Championship challenge in a mountain course
Played Linville Falls yesterday for the first time. The conditions where very wet from several inches of rain but the weather was perfect. Expecting a course designed for the cut shot, I was surprised to find a course which was very comfortable for those of us who play the draw. We, I was playing with my father (4 handicap straight or fade), found the course to have very fair landing areas which were in plain sight on most holes. Those few which had blind tee shots had obvious target lines with plenty of landing area just where you would expect it to be. There are a few holes which require a very straight tee shot with a 3 wood or hybrid. However, most of the holes allow you to hit the driver which is very unusual for a mountain course. The par 5s all exceed 570 yards but are reachable with long straight tee shots and long, risky approaches. Love the risk/reward type holes which allow you to challenge the course or play the safe shots and take the easy par. The par 3s are very playable and none are cheap. But the course is defined by a great selection of par 4s. Driving areas are fair and approach shots require shot making skills.
It is obvious that the economy has challenged the staff, but he conditions of the course were very good even without a large budget. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition, with a few spots of standing water from several inches of rain the days proceeding play.
Do not expect the 6200 yard course mountain course with a lot of trick shots as this is a championship layout. It meanders along a river basin with the water in play on several holes, both as parallel and crossing hazards. Although there are several shots from different elevations, most which are elevated tee boxes, the course plays flat with very few down or side hill lies.
We drove from Brevard and google maps said 2:20 to get there, which stopped us from making the trip on several occasions. However, we had our interest peeked by a friends recommendation and made the trip which was a very easy 1:35 minute drive. It was well worth the trip and we look forward to returning when conditions are a little dryer.
Beautiful views of the mountains.
This is a beautiful mountain course, but there are many holes that lie nice and flat. The greens were pretty good considering all the rain the area has seen this spring. The fairways were quite good. A lot of the rough areas around the fairways have been mowed and cleaned up since I last played here. Take your drinking water with you because you won't find any on the course.
Nice Mountain Layout- firm greens- good roll to them- can play both short and long tees and have a great time
It was a great day- slight rain which mad for soft greens- but they still had good speed. fairways and tee's in great shape- nice mountain course for the $
Very enjoyable course to play.
Although having lived in McDowell County since long before this course ever opened, this was the first time I had ever played it. I have to say it has now become one of my favorites in WNC to play. The course is in great shape, both the fairways and the greens. It offers some very challenging holes, and gives you the opportunity to play every club in your bag. I think this course could be considered a "hidden jewel" of WNC. Really enjoyed playing the course and will be back. THE SCENERY IS GREAT!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Great Golf Course
Great challenging course with beautiful scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With the layout of the course and the natural hazards on the course, every shot will make you think before pulling out a club.
