Fyre Lake Golf Club
About
Fyre Lake Golf Club boasts the only Nicklaus Design golf course in the Quad Cities. Water, grass, and sand were seamlessly combined to create a diverse and challenging course. The layout features winding fairways that snake their way through mature hardwoods and the lush emerald greens contrast beautifully with the lakefront setting. A variety of elevation changes come into play throughout the course. The rolling greens often have multiple tiers and they are usually also flanked by protective bunkers. In addition to the water, wind is another element that will challenge you on this layout. The final hole is a par 4 that plays from an elevated tee box. Fyre Lake Golf Club's hole bends sharply to the left, wrapping around a lake, and since it plays into the wind, getting the proper pin placement is quite a feat.

In the top 3 courses I have played this year
I play twice a week and 2nd time playing this course, really enjoy it Diversity of holes, elevation changes make this a course you want to come back to. Scenery is outstanding also
Gorgeous course, lacking amenities
This is a fantastic course with a great layout. Classic Nicklaus design—target golf. Well maintained and from what I understand, has been wonderfully restored since the ownership change. The only knock was a lack of amenities—no ball washers on course, no beverage cart or water coolers, driving range was closed (understandable this time of year), small practice green and an underwhelming clubhouse (possibly temporary?). For the price, it was well worth the trip. Would play again!
KS Duffer stops in IL for 18
A jewel in Quad Cities area. Can see they have built expecting big things to come in future. Grounds crews visible and busy, greens great shape, fairways clean, rough was tough, and balls placed outside of fairway do not waste your time looking. Technically there is no clubhouse for use yet other than a couple of double wide trailers tied together that appear to be temp structures. There is a nice building near by sited by name for the golf course but appears not used. No water on course nor ball cleaners, yardage markers hard to find. Range finder highly recommended.
Best course in the QCC
Hands down. The best course in the quad cities and overall it was perfect. Greens and fairways were in too shape and the course itself is a challenge. Views were spectacular and I can’t wait to play again
Fyre
What a fun course to play. I found the layout kept getting better as I played. Beautiful layout . Green we’re in great condition and true.
Two and half hour from my house. But well worth it.
Beautiful course
Really enjoyed this course. Got stuck behind a slow foursome but they let us play through on the back and we flew through.
Course in better shape
The tees, fairways, greens, rough back to being what a Nicklaus design course should be. Sand traps still need sand. When that is done the course will be worth a high green fee. Glad to see the conditions have improved.
Enjoyed our round
Enjoyed our round. The course was very challenging and fun. Course was in great condition. The young woman that checked us in was welcoming, professional and knowledgeable Only negative is a few holes on the back nine were littered with goose droppings and made the greens unplayable.
Overall, great experience and value. I’d play again
Hidden Gem Found!
Wow never knew this place existed found it today - $65 steal of century. This course is a Nicklaus (usually not a fan) but its amazing- every hole was awesome. Every hole I said wow this hole is great. Conditions are great. I am in the area often and have never heard of it. Glad I found it can't wait to play it again. I love Spirit Hollow and TPC (other local courses) this is better than both which I did not think I could say.
Fabulous Fyre Lake
Finally made a return trip to Fyre Lake since pre-covid and it was well worth the drive. The course is in great shape despite the drought we’ve been having. I look forward to playing it again soon!
Amazing Links Course - good challenge
First time playing and I really enjoyed the course. It’s really difficult but it’s really fun.
Early morning round - Beautiful Course
Fyre Lake had such great press when it first opened in 2012 - Nicklaus design. All holes really fun and well designed but the original owner obviously let this place go. A crying shame. Fyre Lake could be a top 25 public course in Illinois you can play. The course is really in the middle of nowhere 20 to 30 minutes south of Moline/Rock Island/Davenport....solid 2 1/2 hour drive for me from the Chicago burbs. Lots of Iowa plates in the parking lot. New owner is doing his best to bring the track back to some semblance of glory. The greens were recently micro aerated-just a tad bumpy however in very decent shape - several greens do need attention - diseased or bare areas - it did impact play slightly. The green surrounds are now just higher rough cut...appears when built there probably was a fringe/second cut area around the greens - it makes a number of greens seem rather small. Many greens have ridges/different levels....and this day many of the flags were in extreme back parts of the greens. Numerous sand traps....impossible to maintain acceptable conditions in even half of them. Fairways were really good condition (divot mix on the carts) and most tee boxes are good. Driving range/practice green. Large trailer clubhouse. Front nine is bisected by a ridge and fairly wide open. Back nine winds through some housing stock set back far enough to not be intrusive. Spectacular back 9 routing around lake with an island par 4 13th green. Easy to see why the course received high marks when it opened. Continuing care as well considering to just grass in several bunkers so key ones can be maintained & as well significant green conditioning improvements by the new owner potentially could bring this course back into the top 25 of Illinois publics. Was first out and really enjoyed the 2 1/2 round. $50 weekday charge for me...just seems a bit pricey for how far out the course is from a metro area. Well worth seeking out and do absolutely recommend you play. Just overlook the areas and surrounds of some of the greens that need work as well as the far too numerous sketchy sand traps. 3.9 stars.
