Unexpected Find in Southern Georgia
This was an unexpected find in southern Georgia. I decided to play the course based on the 1920's date it opened. The clubhouse is one of the more unique one's I have seen and goes with the course perfectly. The original 9 holes are 1-7, 9 and 18 and sublime. They roll over the gently undulating terrain perfectly and have 9 unique greens. The newer 9 lies on flatter portion of the property, but does have several good holes.
Definitely Worth it
I have driven by this place a few times in the past few months and decided to give this place a try today. Look, it's a REALLY old club, so it maxes out at 6,000 yards, and if you are a bomber you might have some fun trying to drive half of the par 4s. It's definitely no frills, but for $25 it's actually a really good deal. I found the fairways impeccable, and the greens, while very small, are in really good shape. Even though the course is short, it's plenty of challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The routing of the holes is a little quirky, but that's just me being nit picky.
I would definitely come back here some time, and I'd recommend this one to anyone. Pace of play is hard for me to gauge, as I played on a Monday afternoon when the place was mostly empty, so I had no issues. I'm not really sure what it's like on a weekend morning, or other peek times, but it was an enjoyable experience no matter how you look at it.
Enjoyable round
If you are looking for a private club experience this is not it, but you also won't pay private club rates.
The greens are in incredible shape, easily the outstanding quality of the course. The fairways are mostly nice with a few rough patches. Miss the fairways and you are in real trouble. (Really tough conditions)
There are enough elevation changes to add a little character.
For the price this is a real bargain.
