In the woods
This golf course is great if you are looking for a long round but not quite 18. It is a course filled with a lot of character.
Great 13 holes
The course was in great shape and the greens as normal fast.
upnorth expeirence in Lansing
one of the best moderately priced courses in the Lansing area
Will never be back
The course isn't worth the money and the staff are rude and obnoxious. Was recently at a fundraiser there and had a group of four and one of our carts was reported which they didn't even tell us why, or even ask if they could search our bags before they started sticking their hands in our bags and violating our privacy. They proceeded to check both carts also when only 1 was reported. Not even the cops can check your bag without your consent unless they have a warrant. They found nothing which we knew they wouldn't and all they did was walk away without even an apology.
We had been buying drinks from the cart girl and clubhouse all day and they treated us as though we were dirt.
Will never be back and neither will our friends and family.
Mixed feelings...
So the deal I got was better than most one would be able to get here. Although beware, this is a 12 hole course and even if the tee time says 18, they will try to cheat you out of doing 6 more when you finish the first 12. On the tee time I clicked, it said 18, but the guy only let me play 12. The course is very nicely trimmed and fairly difficult. Would recommend for someone who can get a hot deal and is looking for a bit of a challenge. Very fun once you actually get past the grump in the clubhouse. Don't expect to eat at the restaurant after your round because the only building is a tiny shack of a clubhouse.
Great course
Great place to play golf! The course I very well kept.
Where have you been all my life????
Just perfect. Everything looked pristine. Ladies, this is perfect for us. The staff is very friendly and believe it or not, they say hi to you and the mowing guys wave at you. Go figure
A Great Course and a Half
Woodside is a course that ranks among my top favorites in the Lansing area. The unique layout is a 12 hole format that offers a challenging variety of seven par fours, two par fives and three incredibly difficult, and considerably long par threes. I can usually just show up and get right out, unless there's leagues, so not having a tee time is not necessarily required. This course is great for those who love to walk, distances between holes is minimal. For those who think 9 holes is not enough golf but think 18 to be too much, 12 holes is the perfect number of holes and is just right. It's my go to course for satisfying the ever present urge to play golf after a long day at work because 12 holes is manageable when you're short on daylight. Deals on golfnow are always available at a discount it seems, which makes this course an amazing value.
The first nine holes was passionately designed by the original owner & his son before being acquired by Daryl Kesler & Hawk Hollow golf properties. While the first nine holes are very enjoyable, the real treat that Woodside has to offer lies in the three additional holes. The trio of holes were designed by Eagle Eye architect Chris Lutzke, so little imagination is needed to realize the championship caliber in the new addition. Some of the design elements and style Lutzke put into Eagle Eye are beautifully showcased here. Now being several years old, these holes have had some time to mature into some of the best finishing holes around. Woodside is truly blessed to have these as part of its layout. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with trees looking like they belong at Xanadu! Hole #10 is a slight dogleg right from an elevated tee to the fairway below. This is by far one of the best holes in the state. The tee shot is the best in the area and the only other rivaled competition is from #23 (black tees) at Hawk Hollow. Even if you do not play from the blue tees, trying a tee shot from the back tee is an absolute must on hole 10.
Hawk Hollow & it's sister course, Eagle Eye, are known for its pristine playing conditions, and it is no surprise that Woodside is well maintained, manicured and immaculate. The undulating greens are always in great shape w/ minimal ball marks and roll very true, however I do find that the pace of the greens rolls rather slow. The course has 3 sets of tees accommodating to golfers of all skill levels. Yardages can be found (measured to center of green) on the sprinkler heads, and 150 and 100 yard makers are staked in the center of all fairways. Pin positions for front, middle and back are indicated by color so it is easy to tell where each hole location is.
Not only is Woodside a great experience to play, it also has in my opinion, has the best driving range (for practicing) around. I won't practice anywhere else. Before I discovered the range here, I would rotate Forest Akers and College Fields. Woodside's grass practice tees are consistent to the conditions one can expect you'd find on a real course, which is a very rare feature found at any driving range these days. What makes the range at Woodside a top tier facility is that the practice tees are actually level and elevated above the landing area. This gives the golfer an extra ego boost because it makes the ball stay in the air longer. There are plenty of targets to hit at and the range is pretty far being 340 yards long. I am a real stickler for the quality of the balls a range has to offer. After all you want to hit nice balls with your expensive equipment to effectively simulate and practice shots you'd hit while playing-- It is far too often that a practice facility is inadequate because the quality range balls is sub par, simply put, whats the point in practicing if each ball hit is a dud Woodside has two bucket sizes, small costs $5 and a large costs $8 with the best part being their range balls are NEW and CLEAN. The two ranges mentioned above are mediocre at best when compared to Woodside, all things considered. Akers still hasn't opened their grass and its June 1 (what a joke) and they recirculate range balls that sat in the snow and were used during the winter at their year round facility. College Fields is severely on a downslope and has the worst range balls I have ever seen. They are without a doubt second hand (or even third hand they're so bad) and sadly the very reason I won't go back, the condition is so appalling they should be ashamed--I wouldnt even utilize the range warming up before a round, the only thing these places have is a short game area. Although the chipping area is little to be desired at Woodside, they make up for this by having two very close targets on the range. Lastly, a real bonus is the wildlife you'll see when hitting out there. Don't be surprised if you see wild turkeys or a family of deer. Being so close to a heavily wooded area brings out the skeeters, so make sure to bring bug spray.
Decent Value
Nice 12 hole course. The last 3 holes are the newest and the best; but still a tried and true.
my go to course
Fun , semi tough. My brother in law would hate it. Most greens have some roll & changes in elevation. Always in great shape. Played it the opening day. Loved it then keep going back. I will probably play it once a week until mid November, if the weather will allow. Super Value. Can not beat the price.
Great 12 hole course
This is a 12 hole course which we were able to complete in 2 hours.
Great 12 hole course
Fun course to play. Booked on GolfNow and got a great price. Very friendly and accommodating. Well maintained with changing elevations.
Woodside Golf Course
The course was in excellent condition. This was a fun, moderately difficult course. My only complaint was that according to golf now, I should have only owed $24.00 but when I got there they charged me $40.00. They told me that the golf now price did not include the cart but I could have sworn it did Oh well.
great value, poor staff
Met for fathers day for golf outting. Me, my brothers , dad and son . Had called and reserved two tee times at 10:30 and 10:48 . Got to course early went to rent golf carts and pay for carts and was told that they had screwed up and had given away 10:48 tee time so only way could play is if we played together. We then waited 45 minutes for our carts ,not enough carts have to wait for carts as people get done. Four teed off and had other two catch up , got to second tee and next group who waited 50 minutes for carts were teeing off. When we got done with third hole next group were was half way to hole. Teed off 4th hole par 3 and golf ranger ( police ) showed up asked who gave us permission to play together (6) said guy at desk told us to because THEY scewed up .Was told were holding people up , at this point no one had caught up to us. Told police we will let people through if they catch up and was asked to split to 3 somes He said there screw up didn't matter. Not to bright ,hard to do with 3 carts. Split to 4 and 2 , and let 4 some play through . Next hole police showed back up said guy at desk never said play together so one of those two were lying. Split to 4 and 2 had two some go first ,police said. Two not as good golfers and we walked to balls to speed up but were now being held up by 4some who went through. Two some teed off again but 4 some caught them by green . Golf police harassed us again and told us we were bunching up . We weren't being caught by next group, We were being held up by leading group but the worst thing was because they screwed up the tee times ( probably to make more money) we were being harrassed . Needless to say it ruined our golf outing and fathers golf with our Dad.
Loved the greens a lot different than other courses
One thing they need to do is have course layout on the scorecard for the first time players that would be helpfull
12 holes of golf at a nine hole price
Woodside opened their last 3 holes making this a 12 hole course. It's perfect.. like 3 free holes of golf.
We love this course but their 'clubhouse' is a small shack. We just show up and go play anyway, so it's not a big deal.
Unbelievable value, terrific course
I saw a deal on GolfNow for 12 holes with a cart for $11, and I jumped on it. Not expecting too much, but knowing the course is a Hawk Hollow property, my expectations were pretty low. To my surprise, not only was the course in great shape, but it was the perfect amount of difficulty for a bogey golfer like myself. The course was mowed nicely and bunkers were being raked by staff on numerous holes. I also really enjoyed the wildlife that I noticed in different spots. I could not have been happier with my experience at Woodside, and I think it has become my new go to course, especially if I can take advantage of more deals like this one. The extra three holes appear to still be under construction, but I just consider it to be bonus golf anyway, do no complaints from me. Do yourself a favor and head out to this hidden gem immediately.
Great Early Season Play
Had a great time playing all 12 holes. New 3 holes added this year are in a little bit of rough shape but add great value to the course. For being so early in the season the greens are great (a tad slow but that's to be expected). Was able to fly through the 12 holes in a little over an hour with a cart on a very nice day. Recommend for anyone who is looking for a nice quick round at a great value.
bonus 12 holes instead of just 9
This is a nice course. Enjoyable to play. They have 3 extra holes open now. Most of the holes are in very good condition. The fairway on number 12 is pretty rough, but you can see that they are still working on it. I got an excellent deal on golf now at $10, but right now the special spring rate at the course is $17 so I would still play it for that amount.
