Top Quality
First time playing this outstanding course and from the moment you arrive at the estate and pass through the gate house arch the class of the place is apparent. Long drive through well maintained gardens and past the castle. Pull up at the massive castle, book in at the best Pro shop I've ever seen. Staff very friendly, lots of helpful advice. Course was in great condition. Only faults if I'm being picky is tee boxes a bit tired looking and would've helped having a picture of the hole given there are so many bunkers on each hole. More guidance to next tee would be beneficial to new players. I still can't believe we got this course for £30 each. Easily double if not treble would still be good value. Be back soon!!!
Needs a bit of work
First time playing the course, it can be a bit of a challenge on this Colin Montgomery designed course.
The course bunkers on every hole were very poor with next to no sand and looked if not had much attention in many seasons.
The course was wet in many places despite being 20c for past weeks Good layout but the soggy course took away the enjoyment played more like a winter round.
Needs some investment in drainage and bunker restoration it’s a 3 star course at best in my opinion. I won’t be rushing back .
Excellent course with lots of challenges...and bunkers
Really enjoyable course. Every hole is well thought out and presents different challenges. For this time of year, the greens were in top nick, which was very pleasant. Underfoot, it was extremely wet, but it is October in Scotland, after all
Excellent coarse and set up we were unlucky with the weather as coarse took a lot of rain day before so the ground was wet and tacky will play it next year in dry weather
Beautiful October Day
A proper challenge (especially with the stuff breeze) with some very long holes into wind. The views are great all around. This course is well worth a visit.
Good
Great value for money. Felt there was some issues in areas with drainage, very wet in certain areas of fairways. Other than that, great service.
Lovely Course but Sodden
Through Golf Now I got a great deal on this course. I was a bit early, but the pro let me tee off which helped my onward logistics. The course is interesting and full of character with some lovely holes. For me the par 3 8th and the par 5 18th were standout holes. However, following a lot of overnight rain the course was generally sodden under foot which made conditions difficult. The greens were OK in general, and a lot of the tee boxes had sand covered divots. I played in some strong winds which increased the challenge. I'd certainly want to revisit the course in dry and calm conditions!
Awful condition
Greens average, bunkers unplayable and there are many bunkers. Not a single one raked for months by looks of it and barely any sand. Tee boxes were at in a terrible state.
Fairways have major drainage issues. Was undoubtedly a wet week before playing but early September on a sunny day I expected better
Shame as course design was impressive at some stage in its life
Just fabulous
Wow, what a golf course, I can't believe I've just discovered this course, I've played all over the East and West Coast, and central, stunning off the tee's, bunkers everywhere, you just know this was a pro that designed it. Long, difficult, good greens, bunkers everywhere
Montgomery nailed it with this one, I only wanted to knock a half point off course condition for the bunkers sand, I felt they needed more sand but honestly I'm nit picking here, go play this one, it really is special
Charles Stewart
Great course drainage much better now Green's very good and true Guy in Pro Shop very helpful . Food As Ever First Class
Nice course
Played a 2 ball on a warm summer day and the course was in a lovely condition. Its a very long course with some lovely picturesque holes although some of the tee boxes were slightly bare. For £30 each it was well worth the money and the 18th in particular is lovely when playing up to the castle. There are LOTS of bunkers but in my opinion it just adds to the challenge. I will definitely play it again at some point
Rowallan
Amazing value course, great layout lots of challenging holes only slight criticism greens not as good as expected but absolutely well worth it
