Great layout, terrible drainage
This is my third time playing the course and it doesnt seem like in the 7 years since i first played it that there has ever been an attempt to add drainage. The course is actually really well laid out and i enjoy the course its just a pity that it holds the water so much and makes the course really long to play.
Great layout but really poor drainage
First time playing rowallan and was very excited at the prospects of playing a championship course. The layout of the course and some of the holes were fantastic, some really good par 3’s. However this was all overshadowed by the course condition, every fairway and rough was flooded. Really boggy and marshy. I felt that for the price your charged to play a championship course the owners need to spend a lot of money on drainage,it was almost unplayable at times. The greens however are fantastic and very well looked after. Would rate it 3 out of 5
All the seasons in one round - still fun
Picked a shocker of a day to play this course when thru on the West Coast visiting relatives. Extremely wet and blowy conditions. Course was sodden. We enjoyed the layout of this Monty designed course. Nice long track. Back 9 is fairly wide open to the elements. Course and green conditions not great however both my son and I enjoyed it. Pretty tired by the end however the bonus 19th hole capped off a real workout for us both.
Disappointing
I had never played the course before and I have to say I didnt really enjoy it. Admittedly the recent wet weather had left the course extremely soggy but I just found it to be long and very uninteresting. I would try another round in more solid underfoot conditions- hopefully my opinion would change.
Rowallen
Played on a Thursday afternoon , course quiet and round was quick. Course in good condition all over. No complaints at all and the design of the course makes this an enjoyable golf course to play when conditions are like this. Well worth the cost as booked from Golf Now.
played on several occasions however this was the best condition the course was in. great valued look forward to playing again
Championship Monster!
I have played Rowallan a number of times over the years and it is such a test of golf. From the back tees it is a monster, designed by Monty and tour length/design. Factor the wind and some holes are a real test.
Greens are superb, fairways and teeboxes could be slightly better but essentially due to the size of the course, proper manicure and cultivation comes at a price and I doubt looking at the number of green staff & equipment this is in abundance. Layout and hole design is as good as anything in Scotland. Put a 5 star resort on site and plough in £ and you will rival anything inland in Scotland.
The whole experience from beginning to end.
From the time we passed through the door we were welcomed by everyone, reception, golf pro and bar/restaurant staff, lovely breakfast and when we went around to pro shop were given info about the course since we had never played here before, everyone of the staff we met were very engaging and going onto the course it was really long but most enjoyable, would recommend the course and facilities to anyone and will certainly be returning in the future, thanks again to everyone involved.

Rowallan Castle
Played the golf course today in cold but sunny conditions. The course was pretty wet due to excess rain over the past few weeks but overall it is kept in a decent condition. The greens were great though.
Best Value For Money Course In Ayrshire
We booked this course through Golf Now and had it not been for this website we would never have heard of Rowallan Golf Course.
The welcome by the Pro was warm and friendly and he took time to explain that due to overnight rain the course would be rather wet.
The course was long and challenging but “rather wet” was an understatement as the majority of fairways were sodden with the result that there was absolutely no run on the ball. Despite the time of year the tees and greens were in reasonable condition although several of the greens showed signs of disease.
The layout of the course was superb with some beautifully designed holes. A few of the holes have significant walks between the green and next tee.
This course has tremendous potential but major investment is required to address the serious drainage problems.
New shoes please
Wet underfoot shoes soaked, socks and feet muddy. Trousers dirty right up to the back of my knees. Wasn’t even raining today. Course layout is great could be amazing but spoiled by underfoot conditions.
Half Price
3rd time of playing. With sucj a brilliant summer, the greens were infected. Lucky we paid half normal price.
Poor
Course was in very poor condition. No grass on tee boxes, fairways very un-tidy. Green very patchy and very very slow.
wonderful deal
2 friends from Sunderland and myself played here on Friday 13th July for an incredible £17 each amazing value for a top quality course cant fault it or the staff. This was also the first time I had booked using tee off times hassle free and will use many times in the future
This course has potential however !
Played the course for the second time on Saturday this was after a prelonged spell of dry weather. The first time of playing it was 3years ago and during that time there seems to be very little change in the condition of the course. Its fairways are in a very poor state.Sparse thick bladed grass, had to play preferred lies ! Semi rough is brutal and after that it is a lost ball.reminds of a farmer who is developing his own course. Loads of money needs to be spent on it. Its a shame as it quite a layout.Would i play it again, perhaps not.
Excellent
£18 for a round on this course, excellent value for money, course was in excellent condition considering we’ve had no rain for about a fortnight, greens a little bit slow but think this was down to the fact they didn’t want to shave them right down .Will definitely play it again.
Absolute mire
Bearing in mind that we have had a nice spell of weather, I couldn't believe how wet and boggy the course is. Fairways are in very poor condition, greens not much better and not a yardage marker in sight. It's a shame as the course layout and facilities are good and the grounds are beautiful.
True teat
Long coarse magnificent greens ....bring your 3 and 5 wood and be sure to putt well. True gem ...
