Some of the greens arent in the best of shape, one green had deep tractor tracks running through the middle all the way down to the mud...
Grass was cut and trees trimmed up nicely, not too challenging, great warm up course...
Very friendly staff.
The Lakes 18 at Mallard Has Gone Down Hill
I've played Mallard a lot over the last 5 years. While I prefer to play the first 18, I was sent out on the Lakes side for my round. The course has finally dried out but it is beat up. Tee boxes are hard and half dirt and the greens are pocked with ball marks. Fairways are at least good but the course was no fun to play at all.
Open year-round and easy to get out
Even before I had a membership, Mallard was always my go to course. With the 36 holes, helpful and down to earth staff, and a good mix of challenging and reasonable holes, big driving range, good hot dogs and big beers, it's always a fun place to go for a round.
Heading next door to Bootleggers before or after the round is never a bad thing, either.
These other reviews??
I found the staff friendly, a free course guide on how to play each hole, very playable 28-36 (I could only fit in 9 holes plus it very wet). I’d play here again in a minute.
Tee boxes need some love.....
Never understood how tee boxes could get so bad from driver use ....
I'd rather play miniature golf
The original 18 is very enjoyable. This 9, along with the 4th 9, make up one of the most boring and silly courses in the area. I can't think of a course I find less enjoyable than this. Zero character! My last few visits I've requested the 1st tee and have been denied. This was a very cold and windy day in March with frozen greens and this place has the gall to charge $34! That's nearly twice the spring rate of my home course. This place is not worth the trip.
No Sand, but plenty of water
Have not played here since there were only 18 holes, not the 36 now present. Played in an outing which helped to account for the 6+ hour round. Overall conditions are good, but a course without bunkers is just not a golf course to me. The newer 18 does have a lot of water to make up for the lack of sand.
Not worth it
I used to go here often. The staff is generally unfriendly, the starters send people out with no regard to pace of play. They are likely to grunt at you if you ask them which course might be more crowded. I got a membership here last year and even though it seems like a good deal I would never do it again. Go elsewhere
Architects could have done a better job.
Couple good holes but some need a clown & a windmill. I believe better golfers call these novelty holes.
I'd prefer to play the original 18 holes at Mallard
