Great for practice
If you're looking to play a round of golf this isn't the place but if you want to get some practice in this is the place. Driving range is great. They have a putting green and the best part about the golfplex is the chipping green. Definitely recommend checking it out to get some practice in.
Horrible condition and the old layout was better
We used to play the old layout and enjoyed it better than The Shoe. It is a great idea as there very few short practice courses in our area. However the new layout is really wonky as they just jammed a bunch of par 3 holes into this area and they are all about the same distance. Additionally it is in really poor condition. Large bare spots next to the greens and random pieces of turf. Not well marked and the hole signs are falling down or absent. They just sanded over some of the greens but the grass on the fringe and tees is a mess. People are confused where to go and which tee goes with which hole. Is this where the team practices? I would hope not. Price and location are good but this place really needs some work.
DO NOT BOOK NOY AFFILIATED WITH GOLF NOW
Course no longer accepts GOLF NOW. Changed management and will reopen as 9 hole par 3 course.
Practice
Excellent training facility. The staff members are great. All aspects of your game can be challenged. Course a small 4 Hole course just their to develope short game.
Great place to learn and sharpen up
This is a great place to sharpen your game
Great driving range and good prices
Course is well kept and very good for all levels of golfers
Good place to practice
Practice green is in better shape. Like to see more days of the week to hit from grass on the range. I will be back.
nice practice facility
This isn't a golf course but it is a nice driving range,
Great practice facility
I was pleased to see the greens in better shape.. it was great to practice on all the holes and enjoy a quality roll on the greens. Keep it up.
Lost greens
Been going here since it opened. Literally the worst shape ever. Last year a kid mowing told me they are putting no money into the course. Said the team practice area is great but the public area has no budget. Said they have to work on equipment all the time cause there’s no budget. Went in Feb to see if any changes. Greens are loaded with fungus. Bunkers unkept. Rakes are broken. No use putting. Practice putting green and chipping area 2/10 at best. I guess Top Golf has taken its toll. Driving range has a few new poles and that’s it. The pros who go there to teach lessons use the team area. I thing the team has a private club available to them for practice close by. So sad to see the transformation. Used to be a really good practice facility but I believe they’ve focused on the driving range and alcohol sales.
Know what you are getting
This is not a private course or even a muni. Don’t think that it is. But it is a great place to take your kids to introduce them to the game. 4 holes. Conditions are rough. But for spending time with your kids and spending maybe $13 a round, it’s perfect. Don’t go there being pretentious thinking it’s something it’s not.
Great for beginner
Sucks for 13$when I'm an alumni and can pay 25.99$for 18 holes elsewhere
Apathy
This is a review of the range. Unfortunately, apathy is setting in, after significant funds were spent to double the number of hitting bays and add a fancy mobile cover.
The basics need tending to - for starters, having predictable hours, and management (care). Intermittent electrical and drainage problems are causing it to be regularly closed or limited in operation. Litter is not regularly picked up. The putting green, practice bunker and chipping area are really rough. Areas of wetlands that are clearly in hitting range are not netted, I assume causing substantial losses of range balls. The range itself has become barren mud - drainage issues, a range picker cart/machine that is too rough on the ground, lack of turf management experience? I don't know, but so many other ranges have figured out how to grow grass on and pick balls from a range, even during our wet summers.
Range mats under the cover need to be hosed off every day if not multiple times a day. Get rid of the "mats only" signs everywhere -- for all intents and purposes, this is a mats only range that that is ok. Signs on the door saying "help wanted" and "mats only" would be right at home on the ClubProGuy's twitter feed.
Or, just close the whole thing so that the private sector will have enough of a market to open a different range in the southside of Jax that caters to golfers. There can be huge crowds at times, notwithstanding the limitations of the range. Look at what Seattle's public golf ranges are like - a thousand times better. Or look at how well Jacksonville's Bent Creek is managed on a limited budget, with a lighted, all-grass range.
Sorry for the negative review and I will certainly give a more positive one if things turn around. It is such a strategic location for a nighttime golf range and I think it will have strong support if maintained.
Great practice course
This is a very good practice facility. Conditions around the greens are not great but a great way for you to practice about any kind of shot over a four hole course this is a very good practice facility. Condition are a great way for you to practice about any are shot over a four hole course. Practice putting green is great along with the practice chipping green before you go on the four hole layout .
Easy and fun for the golfer in a time pinch
Took my almost 4 year old son to this course and we walked it. Short greens with no need to bring your driver but it was a fun little jaunt and a great way to get in a few holes when you're in a crunch.
Great day to golf
I had not played this course in quite some time. The course was in the best of shape. The bunkers were poorly kept. They were hard, very little sand and more like mud.
Good value
Great practice course. Good pace.
Fantastic for what it is!
Not an 18 or even a 9 hole course. However, it is four practice holes that can be played in a variety of ways. Three par 3 holes that can be played very short or very long. One hole can be played as a par 4 or a par 5, with or without a dogleg right. You can play them as many times over as you want so it is easy to string together 18 holes. The course is in great shape--fairways and greens are excellent. Have to walk it though, but that is pretty enjoyable as well. Great driving range, putting green, chipping green, and bunker. Kind of hard to argue with any of that, especially when you book it as a $9 Hot Deal.
We are very lucky to have a practice facility like this. It offers beginners a chance to develop their games before venturing out on a regulation 18 hole course. The course is scenic and challenging which will give you a nice workout by walking it a few times. Greens are just like what you'd find on a decent course. Tee boxes need work, though.
