Absolutely Awful!!
By far the worse course I’ve ever played. Course in horensous condition. Shouldn’t have been open. Lost balls in the fairway and fringe of the green in mud. Bunkers either full of water and large stones completely unplayable. We stopped playing after 9 holes. Complete waste of money.
Difficult playing conditions
I booked a round here through Golf now and got a reasonable price for a Sunday compared with other courses (around £17). I was a bit disappointed to find the course very wet and muddy with many fairways having long grass and fallen leaves present . This made it difficult to find your golf ball on several occasions even if you had played a good shot.
I can imagine it has been difficult to get machinery on soft ground to carry out maintenance but maybe there needs to be a bit more emphasis to carry out the work when the ground is firm. Some greens looked in need of maintenance but on the plus side there was fresh fluffy sand in the bunkers.
Muddy
Significantly shorter track this time of year whilst the mats are out. The course is how I remembered it when I played last year, extreemly muddy , the fairways have no drainage so bring a towel to clean your ball. Also lots of leaves on the course , so keep an eye on your ball, there was a 3 ball ahead of me that walked off after the 14 hole as they was struggling to find their balls they were extreemly slow.
The greens are semi decent. Worth a pint on a hot deal at £15 , just bare in mind of all of the above and you can make the best of it.
Flat parkland course with ponds and ditches
Flat parkland course with ponds and ditches in fair condition, greens were good as were bunkers albeit not raked but fairways were patchy and muddy in places, surprising given there hadn't been much rain. First time played and it was clear green to tee if you followed the paths. The cross fairways ditches were annoying as they often penalized a good shot and although not water filled, little chance of finding your ball due to the undergrowth. The flags were also problematic as there is no adherence to the normal colour scheme with reds sometimes at the back of the greens. Generally not worth the standard weekday morning price paid.
Decent challenge for average golfer
Value for money. Mid week pace of play is perfect. Able to get 2 ball round in just over 3 hours and we weren’t playing great.
Definitely recommended.
Course shouldnt have been open
Really dissapointing round last Thursday. Very very waterlogged course that shouldnt have been open for play. In spite of heavy rain the day before, no notification or signage of the state of the course and not a mention when checking in with reception. A great shame as the greens were in great condition. Planned on playing 18 holes but gave up after nine. Wouldnt play again until the summer sorry
Skip it
The greens were great. Hard, smooth, fast ish, although there were puddles due to the rain.
The fairways were awful, they hadn't been cut so were longer than the first cut.
Average, flat parkland course and a bit boggy
It's all a bit so-so. Only one dog leg to brighten up a boring layout. The challenge came from the long par fours which demanded a long second shot. The greens are relatively small but consistent and pretty true.
Play after late spring when the boggy ground has gone and the only disappointment left will be the staff who have no idea how to welcome and greet visitors.
A mud bath. Hardly any fairway.
Terrible conditions. A mud bath overgrown grass on fairways. Good shots plugged in mud bunkers rock hard sand. Local course battered by the weather. Look forward to cut grass fairways and not losing my feet in myd. No trollies would be a start. Tee holes on mats garden take a tea. Full of broken tees
Average
Fairways not so good little talc needed greens good and quite quick. Holes a little plain and repetitive but overall not bad.
Perpetually closed without warning. Do not book in winter!
I have tried to play this course twice in the past few months, booking the rounds using GolfNow. On both occasions, the course was closed due to external circumstances (the first time, the course was “waterlogged” and the second time “the greens were frozen”). I have booked other rounds on those same days at different golf courses and they have been open and functioning as usual which makes the whole ordeal, more infuriating.
The problem that I have is, they don’t tell you the course is shut until you get there and for me, it’s a 45 minute drive one way so it’s a huge waste of petrol money and time. They don’t even send an email in the morning to let you know that the course is closed so it’s very frustrating.
The course itself is lovely, and the people are friendly.
Very wet, and slow
The weather on the day was great, but recent rain had not drained away. The paths were often 4 inch puddles, and trying to find a dry route, or even a muddy route to my ball was challenging. A lot of the course had several inches of standing water. I am so glad my shoes were completely waterproof.
I started my round, playing solo, with no one in front and completed the first 9 holes in 1 hour 20 minutes.
Then I caught up with the people in front. 2 ball, with a three ball in front of them. The second half took over 2 hours. So, so frustrating, and the weather was not perfect for a lot of standing around waiting. The two in front said it was not worth letting me play through as I would only get stuck behind those in front of them. Hmmmm.
Great Course
Great 18 hole course, fairways are wide and mostly flat so good for beginners like myself. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to play the most frustrating game in the world
Wet and Muddy
The course layout is great but it is too wet and muddy. Would not recommend until it is back to normal condition.
