Worst kept course I’ve played on
Shocking conditions. No attempt to look after the course. Wouldn’t recommend and never returning. Waste of money.
Dreadful Winter Course
I love Cheshunt, I was brought up there and played the course as a kid and I'm now 50.
It has always been a superb public course and well maintained.
The course shows signs of being a terrific summer course with all the tee boxes and hazards waiting to flourish, it's there for you to visualise how good it is in the summer.
They are sadly being greedy October - March and the 2nd hole is a swamp as is the dog leg left 6th which is a real shame, it's unplayable and I'm off 6.1 .
I didn't even bother with the back 9 and walked off the course, this wouldn't have happened under greenkeeper Mr Standing and his men.
It will be lovely in summer I have no doubt and it hurts me reviewing it this way, but avoid in the winter months.
The range has really bad golf balls and is of poor standard but do give it a go in summer.
I'm sure my old stomping ground won't disappoint, but I think I've moved on
This Time Of Year
I grew up in Cheshunt and played it as a kid most school holidays, it was always well kept thanks to Mr Standing and his great team of Greenkeepers.
I wasn’t expecting anything like those days as times move on and it’s about making money everywhere now and cramming people on courses, it was disappointing to see 2 mats on the front 9 and basically teeing off on wet slippery mud, the fairways were a bog and it wasn’t playable in my honest opinion.
Cheshunt remains a really nice public course and in terms of layout and surroundings but I would avoid it in the winter, I have no doubt it’s a strong 8/10 in the summer , but it’s a shocking experience in the month of December.
No excuse for any council to not have driving range standards mats on every hole and not just the 9th and rubber one on the 2nd.
Sort it out guys!
Too much traffic and not enough TLC on the tees.
Nov conditions
Fairways are like rugby pitches
Off fairway- long grass and loads of leaves. You can’t find your ball
Fairways weren’t cut
Couldn’t differentiate between fairway and rough, played here a few times before but this time was awful due to lack of maintenance to the course. The fairways were how you’d expect the rough to be. A disappointing round this time around.
Nice layout. Very testing track
Have to say playing yesterday was good value for money. I find this course pretty difficult (scored 81). It quite long but the holes are really varied and it's a good course to play. Greens were really good but the course was pretty wet and muddy (fairways and green fringes not brilliant). It was busy and pace of play wasn't far (but I was on my own so likely to be held up). For what I paid though, I'd def recommend you give this track a try - test yourself!
The course was wet
The course was sodden in areas, using awful temporary tee boxes! Also there were guys playing in jeans!?
Has potential to be a good track
Forward teeboxes because of winter conditions were muddy and mats were slippery.
Some of the fairways were quite muddy.
Enjoyed the layout and would like to play it again in drier conditions.
Nice and flat
Nice surroundings, well maintained course and buggy tracks, good length, well marked and flat, making it comfortable for older players with trollies.
Poor state
Having played here regularly since moving to the area in the summer, i found todays course poor. The tee boxes are in a terrible state, the fairways are covered in loose grass cuttings. The course etiquette seems forgotten. Old boys hitting ball 150yards max waiting at tee box till group ahead reach the green.
A little on the stupid side, making it a slow round
First time playing. Greens in bad condition with lots of worm casts and damage from birds. Course mediocre. Bar staff very friendly.
Nice course. Etiquette missing from some players.
I came on Saturday, played on my own. Yes it was busy, but was very disappointed to not be called through by the 2 ball in front. From the 3rd hole i was waiting with them at each tee. I gave up at 9 holes as I had to be somewhere. Could've easily made 18 if allowed to play through.
Driving range for warm up.
Putting green for practice.
Pleasant staff.
I will be back for 18...when I have time.
Average course with a very slow pace
We only managed 15 holes of our round. Actual tee off time was 30min later than booked because of a backlog on the 1st. Took 2.5hrs for front 9 holes! Course has a good variation of holes however greens were poor with lots of pitch marks and even some with divots. Other nearby courses much better value.
