Good enough especially for beginners
Decent enough course and I enjoyed it (I’m a beginner). Definitely needed the staff in the club house to give me directions on course layout or I would have been lost however, luckily they draw me a simple map. Definitely needs a bit updating (new flags and number every hole), but cheap and I would play again for more practice.
Alright for practice
If your main objective is getting out for fresh air and a relaxed practice session, this may suit.
The course has looked better, but it's been so wet lately that it is hard to judge. The fairways and greens are scruffy, teeboxes uneven, and signage is very poor. Finding your way from one hole to the next is not always intuitive. There's so much potential here, it's a shame not to see the wee course in better condition. The usual price is £10, but GolfNow offered tee times for as little as £4, making it seem unfair to be too critical.
A good start, but could be so much more.
Very new golfer, but course is layed out ok, however the fairway and greens are horific. Grass is unmaintained and the fairways are few and far between. Expect to be hitting shots from the rough as this is what it feels like all the time. No bins, no signage and as mentioned the fairways and greens are in need of some serious expansion/maintainance. I'll be back again because I'm a looney though. A nice wee challange and some good potential to be had; provided it gets the attention the course deserves.
Needs some care
Feel this course just needs a wee bit more care and would be a great, short 9 hole course. Signage very poor, with my 1st time there, I had to rely on a GPS app to know where to go. Fairways overgrown, yes its been wet but it was basically rough the whole way round the course. Greens were in decent nick and some nice, tricky short par 3s. Will play again in the summer to try and get a true feel of it in good condition.
Could be so much better!
Simple improvements required:
Better greens
A few bunkers
Tee boxes require signage and better maintenance
This would not cost
M
Fairway was like playing in the rough. Greens had more sand on them than some beaches .no bins for rubbish..would be a great wee nine hole if better maintained.tbf..
No map on score card
Course lay out so confusing ladies tees are green gents red..No layout map on score card or even numbers on the tee boxes..short tight course and slow players in front of us held up play but the group behind kept teeing of on top of us..staff were lovely . Condition was ok considering the volume of rain
Well maintained
Enjoyed our round of golf, the course was in great condition
Great value
Friendly pro. Great value. A 4 ball and 3 ball in front of them, all in their 70’s motoring on. Was a good morning
Down Royal 9 Hole course
Dry under foot, firm fairways and good condition greens for March after heavy rainfall
Been a while
The valley needs a bit of talc, some greens bit bumpy 2pars could of been birdies
Nice 9 holes
I cut my golfing teeth on these holes so always go back now and again
