Excellent 17 hole golf course
This was dfinitately a surprise and pleasurable afternoon. A 5 star rated golf course many times is in the eyes of the beholder and how well they played or scored day of review. Must express affirmation of 5 star rating. Staff, carts, course yardage markers, and greens (fast and true) are a true measure of high rating. Unfortunately the 18th hole green location and contour caused a bit of sour taste to finish the day. The ability to get a shot close to a pin with a front to back, three tiered, elevated green, was more than difficult. The chance to make a putt come even close to a center cut pin was near impossible. Most importantly, this design was completely inconsistent with how the course play up until the last hole. Hopefully there will some consideration to a redo of this green with the construction of the upcoming clubhouse. Definitely a wonderful 17 hole golf course
Great up and coming golf course in SE North Carolina
This course has a great layout with a variety of challenging holes. The greens roll true and smooth. They are a little bit hard but should mature nicely with the rest of the course. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The driving range is nice but hitting off of the hard mats was not ideal. The pace of play was fantastic. Windy conditions made the course more challenging. The cost to play 18 w/cart is a little high compared to other courses especially considering it is a decent drive to and within the property to get to the course. I will definitely be back to play again though!
Compass Pointe a must play
Very nice course in very good shape for the day after Thanksgiving. Greens were fast and true and in perfect shape. Friendly staff. We thought the back nine had a nicer layout. If you drive it straight you should score well. We will definitely play here again when back in the area.
You need to play it at least once!
Course is very challenging for high handicappers. If you keep them in the fairway, you'll be rewarded with easier shots to the green but do NOT challenge the greens with long irons/woods into the green. Greens very hard and will roll off the back. Greens are excellent (though hard) and roll true.
Great Course
Great new course in the Wilmington area. Everything out in front of you. No gimmicky holes. Course will only get better as it matures.
How it should be.
The thing that sets this course apart from most is the customer service. From the bag boy to the Rangers... Service is top notch! They make you feel like they appreciate your business. The course itself... Excellent! The greens are really hard to stick a ball on but roll really nice! The fairways are nicely maintained and the practice facilities are excellent.
All in all... a good value! Did I mention that the Rangers actually asked me if the pace of play was satisfactory while I was playing? Keep up the good work!
Compass Pointe - Leland NC
First time here. Got a slightly cheaper rate on golfnow so why not. Staff was super friendly. There was a cart girl but the marshal still drove around offering water and lemonade. For a brand new course it is in pretty good shape. Greens roll pretty quick and true. They are very firm so you have to adjust when hitting iron shots because there is no holding a ball on the surface. Layout is pretty cool and I especially liked the par 5's at #2 and #18.
Overall I think it is a good addition to the area and a fun time on a solid course.
Fast greens
Beautiful course. We were told greens were fast and they really were. Great condition. Really nice staff offering lots of ice, water and lemonade.
a must play
everyone in the pro shop and outside ( starter, bag boy, rangers, and beverage cart girl ) could not have been more friendlier. course conditions excellent from tee to green.
New course
This was the first I played here, very nice course for only being open less than 3 months. Very friendly staff
Greens and tee boxes like concrete
Course is very attractive however the tee boxes were so hard that tees broke several times just trying to get them in ground. Likewise the greens were so firm that we were warned at the community gated entrance to hit in front of green and let ball roll up- there were no divots to repair if you hit the green. In the fairways you could count on your ball bouncing and rolling for additional distance. Nice touch of having a marshal offering water and pink lemonade repeatedly during the round. Back 9 has no construction yet so very natural and quiet compared to front 9 with lots of housing up or going up.
Good Time
Course was in good shape. We played in just over 4 hours on a Sunday morning. Couple tough holes though.
Nice course , quick round 2.5 done before 10 am .
