Fun time

Golf was great with my wife, however I wish someone was able to drive around with water and snacks. On a funny note our cart ran out of power on the 18th hole.
We will be back.

Lone Tree’s Back

It’s the best the course has looked in a number of years — at least 3. Greens that have been horrid we’re green, manicured, and fun to play. Tee boxes were in good shape as well. Fairways still fine. Covid precautions were followed and we played a casual round on a Sunday afternoon in 3.5 hours. Nice job, LT staff

Loving the Bermuda greens!

Played on Saturday afternoon at 3pm. Fairways were well manicured, trimmed tight but soil soft enough to take healthy divots without a bunch of dirt sticking to the club. Rough was very playable so there wasn’t a huge penalty for missing fairways. Tee boxes were fine, some were less level than others but not noticeable enough to make a fuss over it. Playing out of the traps were fine. I was able to dig my club in and get a nice fluffy strike, playing a couple inches in back of the ball without it bouncing up and catching the ball thin. With that being said, some did appear more firm or less kept, but lucky for me I didn’t end up in those ones. The greens are where this course shines. They say all have been re-sodded with Bermuda, and there is for sure a noticeable difference in them compare to the rest of the local courses. I love how consistent and true the ball rolls on them. They’re the most consistent greens through 18 holes I’ve seen around here in terms of how the ball rolls and the conditions of the green. Looking back, I didn’t notice many greens with dry patches or blemishes that shouted neglect from management. I cam tell you that I’ll definitely be playing here more often, specifically because of the greens. Overall difficulty was not high because of how open the course is, particularly on the back 9, but challenging enough for a +10 handicapper like myself. Great job Lone Tree!

My home course

Yes, I'm a member and yes I play elsewhere, LOTS! 75 + rounds per year.

Ron Parish has taken this sleepy hometown course and made it into a quality destination here in the East Bay. While the likes of Roddy Ranch, Delta View and several Brentwood courses have closed, LoneTree has become a rising star with quality play and excellent amenities.

Last year a new grounds management and superintendent were put in place and have taken Lonetree to the next level. The bunkers have all been redone with new sand and drainage improvements, the greens have all been reseeded to Bermuda, which has made them fast as a pool table, (code for whiners that want shagg carpet greens, skill is now require, read is now required. This isn't like putting on a furry rug made for your grandmother). Best of all the general look and upkeep has taken a huge step forward, all for the better.

I've read some sorely disparaging reviews by what I believe to be rank amateurs that are looking for a gimme or practice course experience. If that's what you want, you have 600+ members that are ready to adamantly disagree with you and have whole heartedly embraced Ron's amazing achievements in making Lonetree that awesome course folks love to play.

That's me, I love this place for the price, the condition, the challenge and most of all the people, it's our Antioch "Cheers" course.

So, be ready to actually have to know how to putt and expect the Bermuda to be fast, true and cantankerous. No "gimmies" here anymore inside the leather.

Thanks Ron and Zach, it just keeps getting better!

Not worth playing

I hadn't played here in a few years because the course was so bad, I hoped things had improved, but, they haven't. The greens are the worst I have ever played. They are brown, dead-looking, and hard as a rock----not to mention ridiculously FAST!
My group has no intentions of ever comin back. I wouldn.t play for free,

Hi Denny,
Sorry you feel that way. We converted to Champion Bermuda two years ago. It was a decision that literally saved our golf course from not closing! The poa annua & bent grass was failing year after year in the Summer heat, We couldn't rebuild our greens due to cost (millions) so we regrassed them with Champion Bermuda for $40K;. Our members love the Champion Bermuda and membership has grown to over 600 members! Other guests like them too. Tournament business is growing too and getting favorable comments. Yes, the bermuda is dormant or brown in the winter but get beyond "color" and they putt really smooth, and really fast!!! And firm and fast is also something players want which also describes them. All golfers request these characteristic nowadays. Admittedly hole #1 par 4 has too much slope. We are going to take some slope out of it in June this year; we actually play to a par 3 on hole #1 Mon-Thursday currenty (to extra green on #10; we built a new tee box). Besides greens, we rebuilt the back 9 greenside bunkers in the last two months and will have the front greenside rebuilt by May 1. Public golf in California needs solutions like "Champion Bermuda" and you are going to see more and more courses going to this type of grass. Uses less water (which also means less electricity to pump), handles heat better and putts smooth and fast! I hope you come check us out some other time; 600 members must like what they are seeing for some reason. GM Ron Parish; call me if want to discuss more 925-706-4220.

Decent course, tough greens, tight layout.

I have played Lone Tree a few times recently. The course is a decent layout, it's pretty straight forward. The biggest issue is the Bermuda greens, they are fast in the summer and now that they are dormant are even faster. As a beginning golfer I can only describe them as a nightmare, luckily my brother was generous with the gimmies or I still might be trying to finish the round. It is a nice facility with new carts, a good range and warm up area. Fairways are in decent shape. It does seem a bit pricey considering the current shape of the course.

Putting Greens actually hold thier respective lines

In my experience with municipal golf, the biggest hinderece to my perfomance and overall enjoyment of the game has come in the form of poorly maintained putting greens. Lone trees green were recently redeveloped, and currently rolling very responsive to there respective lines. Firm enough to avoid the usually defects found on most public greens such as the abbrassions left from spikes, imprints from putter head, or poorly replaced divots. Overall, the grain patterns were very consistent making this an ideal place to shot some low scores. If you can keep your ball straight!

Although lacking some of the obstacles/hazards found upon other courses. Lone tree still remains a shotmakers course, accuracy is at a premium. It can be very easy to find yourself punching out of the trees, even if you thought you hit the right line to avoid that. Things tend to take bad bounces, as the fairways were a bit dry, yet are very acomadating towards those with a left to right ball flight. If you play a slice, this course is for you. Nearly ever hole on the front nine accomodates the ball flight, you'll probably find it difficult to lose a ball!

The first hole runs parallel with the driving range. I hit my tee shot mid-fairway, and upon arrival, found that my ball had integrated it-self with dozens of range balls. I was able to discern which one it was; but in the time I spent finding it multiple errant range shots buzzed over my head. This lead me to rush my descion making process with my approach shot, and I ultimately took bogey on the hole after a 300+ drive (worst feeling). Considering this is the number 1 handicap hole on the course, consentration should be key. Worrying about getting knock out by range ball shouldnt be a concern. Lone tree, fix your net.

Pretty fun course for the price though none the less, would reccomend it on the weekdays. Or whenever it's not super windy!
