Nice Find
This was my first time playing this course. There is a sister course that called the Founder Course and it's also supposed to be good.
The course was in good shape except the greens had been plugged about a week ago. That did not change how much I enjoyed the layout and the conditions. The course is interesting and can be challenging if you play tougher tees. My wife felt the forward tees were very fair.
The staff was outstanding and friendly.
Find out of the greens are being airated first!
It probably would have been a great course had I known the greens were being aerated which after touching base with the Pro Shop says it is on the website buried in the maintenance tab. That would be great if I was on the website but I was on a vendor partner booking it with golf now and that was not noted had just played the course the founders course the week before and it was fine who wants to pay $75 in summer to play greens that are garbage it should be $20 when you are aerating the greens
Disrespectful Starter
As our group was preparing to tee off on the 1st, the starter made numerous comments that we should tee off on the shorter tee box. He literally sat in the cart just behind our tee box and mumbled comments about how we are playing the wrong tee box. It was a 6:30am tee time, with no range time, I guess he expected Rory and Tiger quality shots off the 1st tee. After we all hit our shots, he concludes his commentary with a brief about how he, "has a tight schedule and expects no more than a 4hr round". I ended up shooting a 78 from the 6800 yard tees. I have never been so offended by a starter in my 20 years playing golf. I hope management reads this review and has a conversation with the starter working this morning.
Love the Layout
A lot more fairway room than it looks off the tee. A couple of goofy holes, but a beautiful setting. Will come back!
Good conditions for summer
The course was in good condition for AZ in the summer time. There were a few burned out spots, but overall it was mostly green and there was grass under your ball. The greens have mostly filled in from the aeration a month ago.
Great day of golf but the tall gentleman that was the starter that day was a little too talkative. He kept on the tee box for 13 minutes. The group ahead had already walked off the green and he was still talking. We finally teed off and then he came back to tell us that we were already late and running behind time…. That remark wasn’t necessary.
Everything To Hate About Golf Architecture
Nice people, nice views, absolute garbage layout. Bailed on the tips after the front bc practically every tee shot is blind and there’s no yardage guide. Highlight was playing over what looked like a dogleg right to find it actually went to the left a little and ended up deep in the desert. The drive between holes is insane - a handful of times we legitimately wondered if we had gotten lost.
There’s so much great golf out there, no reason to play something that’s just built to sell real estate. Whatever kind of golf this is, count me out.
Average shape
The greens were just recently punched, but with the smaller gauge holes. The greens overall were fast, but not very consistent. The surface was very hard and it was difficult to keep a ball on the surface. They definitely needed watering. The pin placement on nearly every hole was harsh. Several were right on the edge of slope or drop offs. We were wondering if the greens keeper was just in a bad mood. The holes had not been cut in awhile as the edges were all fuzzy and the grass was going into the hole.
The fairways are showing some signs of heat stress. Oddly there were strips or sections of the fairways which were very wet. Pace of play according to the card in the cart is supposed to be 4 1/2 hours. This seems slow to me. Since we had to wait on the groups ahead of us, we ended up playing in just under 5 hours, which is slow. Golf balls at the range were mostly dead. I haven't played here in quite awhile, but I usually like this course. It was just a bit off this time. It just wasn't the higher end course I remembered.
Longest round in AZ
5 hours and 15 minutes round on a 100F day in AZ is not acceptable. Nobody on course to help with the situation. All pro shop had to say is sorry.
Excellent
Beautiful course with great amenities and very nice staff.
Super Greens
Victory course is a great layout, excellent variety of holes, and interesting shots. The greens are amazing…very large with lots of contours. Play this course!
Verrado Victory Course Was a Great Value
Victory course was in great condition. Windy conditions but still able to manage. Only gripe that I had was finished round at 4:45 and the kitchen was closed...on a Saturday. My son and I wound up going somewhere else to eat but it would have been great to wrap out our golf with some great eats on the course.
