A good Air Force Base golf course, with exception staff!!!
An excellent way to spend 45th birthday with my son......
This course is on Beale Air Force base and while the security clearance is a bit cumbersome, the staff at the course makes up with the start with exceptional friendliness, detail about the course, and overall attempt to create an excellent experience.
As with most courses in the region, the course has been impacted by the drought, but keep the ball in the fairways and on the greens and you will not have any issues.
If you are allergic to bees, you may want to steer away from the course, as the sand traps are oddly filled with many swarming bees. The tend to swarm around the entire trap, but within the trap is flat out scary.
Bottom line, the course is fun, challenging and mostly an excellent pace.
coyote creek Beale AFB
wise to call the golf shop when nearing the AFB. We found the entry gate we planned to use closed, and had to back-track to the main gate. The roads were being worked on, and the shop had just recently gotten the updated info.
No 19th hole.
Poor Conditions
Although the location and greens were ok- the fairways did not seem to have been cut in a long time! Confirm of course made this a bad deal!
worth the trip
fairways are a little rough but the greens are excellent. The course was nearly deserted, played 18 with our foursome under 4 hours. it takes a little time to clean security at the gate so be sure to leave early
Golf
Nice course wide open fairway nice pace and fun to play
Didnt Play
Note this is an active military base. I was told I couldnt play without a sponsor. After looking at my license, insurance and Registration they had me pull to the side for 10 minutes. I was told I should be given a citation for not having two license plates. They finally told me to call the golf course and they would come get me. The course asked which gate I was at and I wasnt sure. I got out of the car to ask and was told to get back in the vehicle right away. At this point I went home as there are too many NICE courses without the drama. I understand this is an active Air Force Base and they were doing their duty and doing well just a heads up in case you dont like M-16's in your face. The course, Golf Now and the Front Gate should communicate this information.
Great Course
I loved the golf course and staff but the bathrooms in the pro shop are dirty. They need to be disinfected, bleach and scrub. They use Febreeze to neutralize the smell.
Bad Day
Not sure it would be good to write an accurate review of this course on this day. The back nine was closed for aerification and the front nine greens had been aerated and heavily sanded. The fairways had not been mowed and the tee boxes were in need of repair. It was evident that the course was in the throes of being prepared for the upcoming season. Add that to the slowness of the group of four ahead of us who were not at all interested in letting a twosome play through and it was an all-round bad day. We have played here before under better conditions
Lots of character
This course was a nine hole course that added another nine some years later. The first three holes are narrow with very elevated small greens. These traps had too much of a dirt mix to them. The sand traps improve for the remainder of the course. There is a creak in front of hole four. Be sure you can clear it or you should lay up on your approach shot. Next is a nice, pretty par three, then a tough par four. Aim at the 150yd marker on this one. Next is a par three over water which isn't too intimidating, but fun. Finally there is a long par four followed by a fairly easy par five. The back nine is the newer nine. You will enjoy this course, but I've played there a few times when the fairways hadn't been mown. Be sure to arrive early to get on the base. I would recommend calling to be sure they will sponsor you onto the base.
Pace
Great course really. In the past the players have been great. Only two complaints
1. The tree area on the driving range could be maintained a little better.
2. Not sure how to fix but we had three groups behind us all playing from the gold and we were playing from the blues. Needless to say we got pushed a lot. The staff had no answer for the issue. The fairways are a little narrow so if you hit a little wide you had no time to look for your ball before you were getting hit up on. Better tree time management may solve this problem but I'm not sure.
Beale Bound
played coyote many times. rough needs a trim but overall value is exceptional. nothing fancy but functional and challenging.
This course has good potential to become great course.
The weather was perfect and the course was wide open. Finished the course in 2:10 minutes-twosome.
The greens were fast enough.
The fairways maintenance was absent. Tall and unkept fairway rough. No hole signs or direction to the next hole. Confusing for first comers. Lots of fallen leaves to cause losing a few balls. The narrow fairways with trees gave us pleasant challenges. No water cooler anywhere and the temporary restrooms needed cleaning. No beverage cart or water buckets available.
I didn't read the instruction to arrive at the gate of the Beale AFB one hour before the tee time, but the pro shop staff was very kind and helped us to play without any delay. They appear to be quite efficient and acted as professional. .

Great course for intermediate or advanced. Friendly staff fast play. Can't beat the price.
a good value course
If I did not have a valued green fee through Golf now I would not have gone. Possibly due to bug etc cuts the maintenance of the course is very lacking. The fairways look like they have not been mowed in quite some time, some construction is being done, also. Driving range is very small, but for the the value I paid it was just okay. I would not go if I had to pay full price.
Continuous Improvement
I played this course Saturday at 11:30, which I was able to book online in the morning. Great special price. I've played it 9 times since April and it just keeps getting better. After several years of neglect, lots of crab grass, and low government funding, they got a new greens keeper and I've seen a lot of progress this year. The greens were aerated a couple of weeks ago and most are just about back to normal, which is VERY Good, still a bit slow. They are really better greens than almost any public course in the Sacramento area. I played in early September and myself and another guy who joined me at the 10th agreed the fairways are showing improvement to. In this drought year they have plenty of recycled and non-potable water so there is no drought damage at all. The greens on this course are a good challenge with different levels and many are elevated and well maintained. It is also to book a tee time at a great price at any time of day, and any day. The weekend prices are a real bargain compared to market.
Disappointing!
This was my fourth time playing this course and I was very disappointed in the neglected fairway conditions, which was infested with wide-bladed weed grass, growing out of control, throughout the entire course. This affected ball rolls, lies, cleaner hits, and made it more cumbersome to maneuver around and out of, for better scoring. This is unfortunate because the course has a nice layout with good greens, traps, challenging dog legs, an assortment of long and mid-range holes designed around a relatively flat terrain, with added contoured holes and an assortment of mature tree and plant growth, to keep it interesting.
Worth the Drive from Sacramento, Folsom, Rancho Cordova
Fun course, great greens, improving conditions, green fairways, new carts and lots of new sand in the traps.
The Price is right.
Beale
We are older and it takes us about 4 hrs to play 18. Every one was courteous and well mannered. We enjoyed the course.
Needs new management
Fairways are not mowed. leaves not vacuumed, hard to find your ball. waited 45 minutes to get breakfast and hardly anybody in their. cook needs to be replaced. I will not go back until I have heard that the place changed for the better. The worst military golf course I've ever played.
