Terrible greens
Greens in the front 9 looked like someone had driven a truck through them repeatedly and tore them up.
going, going....
It's a shame that this course continues on it's long decline. Looking at the previous reviews, it seems they had trouble mowing the fairways. Well, they have them cut and it looks like you just mowed the lawn after being gone from vacation for 3 weeks. Greens are splotchy at best and they keep them long (and slow) where the grass grows. I was one of a very few there on a Friday. Which shows they just don't have the cash flow to take care of this place. While short, the layout and distance is not bad for the average golfer. But having said all of that, for $14 golfnow rate, playing by myself, it was a fine day. It reminds me of an old muni course that had its hey day in the 1950's, but the town can't afford to keep it up. It may be destined to just be a park one day.
The grass in the fairways was extremely high. At times it was hard to find your ball. Very poor course maintenance.
Needs maintenance badly
Tees and greens were good. Sand traps had no sand in them, but had plenty of weeds as if they haven't been tended to in months. Grass on fairways was as high as the rough. An employee said the bad conditions were due to mowers broken and lack of parts to fix them. If you can't mow the fairways so a ball hit to the middle isn't a lost ball, then close the course until you figure out finances
Good layout for short course, needs maintenance before I will play again
The setting is beautiful and the layout can be fun, with high potential to score well. A little short for my taste but with a little work this course could do very well.
Unfortunately it appeared that all maintenance had stopped when we played it. 15 of the greens were somehow still in great shape, but the other three were completely dead/burnt. Additionally the fairways were NOT mowed at all. The length of the fairways was exactly the same as the rough, which made finding the ball (and approaching greens) quite difficult. In fairness, it had rained fairly regularly for the last few days so this could have been the reason, however, relative to other Atlanta courses, the length of grass in the fairway was the worst I've seen in a while.
Additionally, we had a "free" coupon for greens fees, yet they still gouged us $22 for cart fees, which we felt was excessive -- considering we could have booked on golfnow for $25 total.
The staff was friendly and very helpful, so all in all it was a good experience -- however management needs to take a hard look at maintenance before I will play here again, even for under $20.
Always Enjoyable
The course was in pretty good shape, compared to previous outings. Only two or three greens were bad, but they were very bad. All in all, great value and a nice option in the area. I always recommend this place as the layout is not too challenging and you are rewarded for good shots.
Beautiful Course
It was like golfing in a nature preserve! The course was in super excellent condition and hidden away amongst the hills and trees. Great time. Highly recommend!!!
A nice tight gem of a course!
Very pleased with the course improvements over the years. Looking forward to our next opportunity to play. Accurate tee shots from the back tees are necessary to score particularly on the tight par 5 5th hole. The greens and bunkers were in good shape despite the recent heavy rains.
Short course that is still challenging and fun
If you are looking for a nice outing that will challenge you without being crazy hard, this is a good choice. Limited water hazards and reasonable trap placement. Some fun surprises though, so make sure you strategies the hole. Biggest downfall is the driving range - which does not exist. Instead you hit into a net off pads. Really crappie, so plan to either have a warm up score on holes one and two, or warm up at home. Also, Pro Shop is pretty lean (no golf balls on Friday!!), but the staff is wonderful.
Great Course
It was a fun track and the staff were very professional and friendly.
Great track.
I have played this course a few times and I would recommend it to anyone. Pretty forgiving but yet a nice challenge. You have to get off the tee with a decent shot in order to score well but you will enjoy the course.
Incredible transformational improvement
This course has made a 100% turnaround over the last year - it is no longer the sad forgotten sister course of the Alpharetta Athletic Club. Excellent shape and professionally managed.
I used to criticize the layout - after 15 or so rounds over the last 5 or so months - I now love it - short and playable but delightfully quirky - once you get used to it it really grows on you...other folks have expressed the same sentiment.
Okay - a tip for newbies to this course - par 5 hole number 5 is a puzzler - there appears to be no fairway off the tee and a temping hill to plow a drive into and hope for the best - don't do it! - from the blues hit a 140-150 yard iron shot as there actually is a fairway out there below where you will think you need to carry - there is no need to carry to the elevated area - then hit a 200-225 fairway wood up the hill and on down the fairway - then GO LEFT of the pine tree guarding the green - it took 10 times playing this hole to understand it...once you get it - it is playable and quite fun.
Give this course a try - the nearby Trophy Club could use the competition - I have not once waited at a tee box at this course...
Lots of Fun
Course in excellent condition for this time of year. Some very easy and some challenging holes. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Price was Golf Now hot deal. Regular prices seemed reasonable. Would definitely return.
Alpharetta Athletic Club aka Milton Country Club
Course is in pretty good condition for this time of year. Most greens were excellent but a few needed a lot of tender loving care. Layout of course is a little different but it is playable.
Very Challenging for a High Handicapper
Very polite, friendly and professional staff. Course was not busy when we played and completed the round in 4 hours (2 hi handicappers). I highly recommend this course for any golfer that is looking for a challenge. This club also has some nice membership opportunities available. I will play here again. Thank you Milton CC.
Executive Par-70 that's getting better
The Old AAC West is looking a bit refreshed, with improvements to the clubhouse, greenside bunkers and putting greens. A couple holes are still under improvement, but playable, and for a Hot Deal tee-time on a Saturday afternoon, the course and conditions were better than average. Be ready to play from some bare spots and plenty of leaves as it is still only February; but over all a good pace of play, and a deal if the price is right. Note: no driving range, so come ready to rip at a short, straight and flat number 1.
Worth a New Look
I was apprehensive booking a tee time here given the history of poor reviews over the last few years. However, I saw newer reviews suggesting the place was worth a new look. Those reviews were on the mark. All the staff I encountered from the bag boy, to the pro shop, bar and kitchen went out of their way to make me feel welcome and appreciated. Course layout has some quirks. But, it is a fair play with sufficient challenge to meet my needs. I'll be back and just may join. Only drawback is not having a range.
Better hit em straight
Beautiful fall day to play. The fairways are narrow. Greens were in really good shape for November. Tough playing for the first time out there without any pictures because of the hole layouts and some lay ups needed. Pretty short, scrapped the driver after 2 holes and went to 3 Wood for the accuracy needed over distance. I'd definitely play again now that I know the course.
I don't understand
Had to be the only course in Atlanta area that was cart path only because the fairways were dry. Never heard such a thing. Made for slow, unenjoyable play. Course is already a bit hilly and its cart path only. Not good. Other than the fairways and tee boxes being a bit hard, course layout is fantastic. Makes you work your golf ball for a decent score. Greens were fast and in good shape (except for one). Will come back when they get rid of the cart path only designation
Course is currently cart path only because the water reservoirs they use to water things like fairways, tees, and greens are down to dangerously low levels. This means they must focus their available water on more important things like the greens. The inability to put water on the fairways has caused quite a bit of stress on the Bermuda and cart traffic only amplifies this stress. This is why they have temporarily taking carts off the fairways.
