Poor old Bethel keeps getting worse
Upon reaching the first green you realize you won't be able to putt on a normal to fast green for weeks. The green looked like a closely mown section of the fairway except it wasn't so closely mown. Having a downhill putt meant you only had to hit it like a canon. Uphill putts were fun. You could haul off and smack it and not worry it would go past the hole beyond the range of a gimme. Fortunately, all the greens were not in this poor a shape. This is one of the few courses in the area where you get more roll on your drive now than in the summer months. Also I almost lost my ball in a bunker. Not because of a lot of sand but because the weeds were so thick. Other bunkers had no weeds but also had little sand - more like soft dirt at best and hard pack at worse. Feel sorry for the course - it used to have really nice greens and a fairly challenging layout. Hope they can keep it going. It doesn't deserve to die.
Not a place to take a client to...
It was OK. Even though it is not comparable to any course in the area, I can't really bash a course when I actually get to play golf and has a bartender that is very attentive.
It's like playing an abandoned golf course.
This course, adjacent to a trailer park, was, in the past, the "last resort" golf course when others in the area were too wet to play. Now, it has fallen into such a state of disrepair that it is not really worth playing unless it has been raining for weeks and nothing else is open. It costs almost nothing, I was able to play in under 3 hours, and my playing partner, a resident of the area, was both a very good golfer and a real friendly and nice guy. Too bad about the course itself.
Great course layout with some challenging par fours.
Bethel Island Golf Course has fallen into hard times. Most bunkers have minimum sand in them and most are overgrown with weeds. The greens have some kind of fern and other grasses and are in need of a complete rebuild. Fairways are clumpy at best with many gofer holes on the faiways. BUT...the layout is great the setting is nice! It just needs some time and money to restore this once great delta course.
Great walking course
I play here at least once a week. I have a good round every time. Its good for practice and it can be a challenge. Great pricing.
Super Saver Best Way to Go
Not worth paying the full price, use Golf Now for discounted price and its's a good deal. Bring cash no credit cards in the Bar\Restaurant...CC can only be used at the starters desk.
If your looking for a fast round this is the course to play.
Don't waste your time
Hard to believe there is a lack of water on an island, dead crabgrass for fairways, the 'marshal' constantly cruised up and down our fairway while we tried to play, never spoke a word to us, it was rude, annoying, & weird. Golfcart went dead on the back nine
flat and easy with super great drainage
Know that your NOT playing a good or even fairly maintained course. The greens are patchy and slow. It didn't look like the tee boxes have been mowed in some time. Parts of the fairways looks like they are letting them go back to nature. A good place to practice for the price. Just don't expect much and you won't be dissipointed.
Price was the only thing redeemable about this place...
I had heard how lousy this course was from a friend a while ago, but 18 holes for 9 bucks with a cart!? Well, he was right... lousy, dry and bumpy fairways. Not exactly what I'm used to... but for the money, any day golfing, anywhere is better than working!!!
NICE COURSE FOR BEGINNERS. EASY TO FIND YOUR WAYWARD SHOTS. IF YOUR BALL IS LOST HERE ITS TRULY LOST SO YOU DONT HAVE TO WASTE YOUR TIME LOOKING.
I'VE PLAYED HERE 3 TIMES NOW. IF THE PRICE IS UNDER $20 ITS WORTH THE DRIVE.
Needs some TLC but good price. Very nice people!
I've been here many times. The staff is super nice, but the course itself needs some attention. The greens need some work. It's a flat course with wide fairways, so it's kind to new golfers.
Watch out for hole #2! It feels like 700 yards! You will need a good drive on that one.
I do end up going back often since it's wallet-friendly.
Nice casual course
Wife and I are beginners and like the afternoons when the pace is slow and we can take our time learning. We play here 3-4 times per month.
