Nice day
Played at 11:14. Everyone was very nice considering the Corona panic. Curse was in mint shape, starter very friendly. Played with a member who saved us 5 strokes. Very interesting fun but punitive course. No wonder all the pros love it. We played at 6200 both in our 60s and 10 hdcps. It was all we could handle.
A Terrific Layout
The Commander course has a beautiful layout and is very challenging when played from the National (Black) tees of 6375 yards. From the first hole (par 5) until the last (also par 5), it was an enjoyable experience. The greens are firm and fast (11) and often difficult to hold. There are many undulations on the large greens. Carts have very accurate GPS systems which obviate the need for a range finder. The practice facility is outstanding. Holes 10, 11 and 12 are the most difficult holes on the course, especially when played in a headwind.
Florida courses
This is more than a typical Florida course. There were beautiful rolling fairways that on some holes looked like they were no more than 20 yards wide. The greens were large at times however I don’t remember more than 2 or 3 that provided a flat straight putt. The course is in fabulous condition and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t make this course a must to play when you are in the area, we cannot wait to play it again.
A very different but amazing Florida golf course
Simply amazing from check in to check out. I must compliment every employee. Everyone is eager to help make the experience memorable. 5 STARS to the superintendent and staff. The course offers a nice challenge depending on which tee you choose . Definitely not your typical Florida course. Conditions are amazing from tee to green and it’s always fun to play where the PGA tour plays ! Thank you LWN
Great challenge
This is an excellent Arnold Palmer design and if played later in the day at a discount an exceptional value.
Greens were 11 on the stimp and in great condition
Best public course in Sarasota
Outstanding layout and always in great condition. Hope they don’t close it to the public.
Very nice course
This is a very nice course recommend playing. Tee boxes and fairways are in great condition and the greens are pretty fast.
Worthy of the high rating
Some of the courses in the Top courses in Florida rating that I played on this trip left me scratching my head. Not this one. It’s lush and plush condition, great design, beautiful and top notch service. Worth every penny and even better if you get a GN deal. Excellent. Just wish it wasn’t so windy and cold when we played but the course was so good we forged on. Good luck avoiding 3 putting on these greens. If you’re outside of 10 feet there’s a good chance you will. Undulating and huge greens running 11 plus doesn’t make scoring easy.
Beautiful course
Very nice course but somewhat challenging for the average golfer. I highly recommend playing for the experience of playing a great course.
Great Golf
We will be back! As soon as we hit the front door we were treated great . Course conditions were perfect. Fast greens, Fairways great condition, enough landing area. This course is the best out of 7 we’ve played this week. Can’t wait to play the new course next year.
Excellent!Excellent!Excellent!
First time playing Lakewood National. We played The Commander. It was a treat. Very friendly staff, excellent warm up range. The course was in outstanding condition, felt like a high end Country Club Course. Greens were very good, the beverage cart was out at least 4 times. This was well worth the $100+ we paid. I will definitely play Lakewood National again.
High end
This was one of the best courses I’ve played in the state of Florida. The conditions were near perfect. My only complaint was the pin placements and speed of the greens made any small error in putting penal on the results. I consider myself a very good putter and average 31 putts per round. I had 38 putts on my round at Lakewood and should have shot in the 80s but ended with a 91 even though I parred the last 2 holes. I know they’re getting the course ready for a pro tournament but the greens were penal for average golfers. Hopefully next time they won’t be so difficult. I will be back.
This is a hidden gem
Lakewood National's Commander Course is as enjoyable a golf course as I've played in FL. Long, but fair layout with a combination of really difficult holes (good luck on 10-12) and some shorter and trickier holes that make birdie a reality. Conditions are impeccable, greens roll consistently in the 11 range and bunkers have excellent sand.
Although the tee sheet is generally filled on a daily basis, pace of play is reasonable as I have played it a dozen times and finished in 3:45-4:15 every time. A couple of blind tee shots can result in water if you miss left, but after the first loop you should be fine.
Home to a Korn-Ferry event the last two years, and I was present at the finish this year and one speaker mentioned that this is the "Augusta of their tour". High praise to say the least. Couple that with a friendly and talented staff and you get a very enjoyable day!
Great Course
A wonderful place to play golf. Greens are beautiful and true. The sand in the bunkers very good. Fairways are in great condition. Electric carts with GPS. Driving range and practice facilities are top flight. Staff friendly and helpful.
Excellent
Fabulous greens, though difficult, running at least a 12. Don’t miss this course.
