My favorite course
Browns Mill golf course is my favorite course to play. Though it is my favorite, the one issue is that most of the time I am there to play. The driving range often closed! We need to warm up before play. Love the layout, pace of play is never an issue. The greens is good.
Decent public course
Good value for the money. Is fairly long, but not overly challenging. Long hitters will do well here. Grass is still brown, but starting to see a few green shoots coming up. Course really holds water, so not a good place to play after a hard rain.
First time experience
Only the back nine was available due to flooding issues with the river and the front nine. However the staff was able to get me and my friend back onto the back nine ahead of tee times set and play the full 18. Great course especially for its price and great staff.
James A McSwaiin
First the front nine was closed. Which means a backup on starting at 10. No Marshall at all to keep the pace and work the new starter's in. Course was walking only for $35.00 is just wrong at 5:15Pm
Slow play
They did not have enough carts. Even though I paid for a cart I had to walk. There were several others waiting on carts as well.
Pace of play was terrible. I ended up retiring the round. I was at almost 4 hours and only on #12
WOULD NOT PLAY AGAIN
Course was in poor condition
The staff were not friendly at all
Would not play this course again
Soggy Mess, Ranger Out of Touch
Golf course was soaked. Course does not drain well. There was standing water in multiple fairways. Water rose when I was 5-6 ft from the hole on 16.
Greens rolled fair, but not great. Hole positions were good, but a few were cut a little too close for comfort from the edges on some of the toughest holes, making hard holes even harder. Still, this provided some variety and challenge.
Booked a 2:24 hot deal. Ranger came by on 3 different occasions to tell us carts in by 6. We were a twosome behind several foursomes, and we were just fine waiting, but this policy was never mentioned on GolfNow, and it just seemed like the ranger wanted to go home early. We are on hole 18 at 6, and the ranger implied my partner could not hit his 3rd shot on the par 5 because carts needed to be in. He brought the cart in while I finished the hole. If you can’t honor a 2:24 hot deal round to be completed, don’t have it listed! There was no way to play quicker as multiple foursomes were ahead of us. Unnecessary distraction and policy. My playing partner had never played the course before—terrible business decision. How likely is he to return now?
Winter Golf
Course conditions are about as good as you can expect for this time of year.
Unpleasant staff and disorganized.
Regardless of industry, when you work in a customer facing role, being polite is the absolute minimum. The young woman working at the desk couldn’t be bothered to greet us when we said good morning. Advised us of the frost delay, which we were fine with, but the tone and disposition of the employee was less than pleasant. She became marginally more polite once she started calling groups but still wasn’t pleasant overall. Once play was finally underway, we were advised to start off on the back 9. Once we got to the tee box, another employee drove up to tell us to go to #2. When I responded that we would move but that we were there because we were advised to go the the 10th tee, he sighed loudly and responded with an elevated tone and said “SIR. YOU NEED TO GO TOTHE 2nd TEE.” I pushed back told him that if we were inconveniencing him by simply being there and following the instructions we were given, then he should find another job that doesn’t involve dealing with the public. That said, after a 2 frost delay, with only about 8 groups queued up, rather than sending everyone out on alternating holes (skipping a hole in between each group) they stacked everyone sequentially starting on 1 and it immediately caused a back up since there was no staggering of groups, no one playing best ball, and walkers being mixed in with carts. Effectively they started everyone in a scramble format despite everyone playing their own ball. Pace of play was almost 20-minutes per hole. Gave up after waiting close to 10 minutes on 3 consecutive holes. I get that it’s a muni course but it takes zero effort to just be polite and welcoming.
TERRIBLY managed, okay course
The staff seems totally out of it. They’re not very friendly at all. I had an early tee time and got to the course about 45 minutes early. They told us the driving range is closed and weren’t interested in speaking about why. There was no starter in the morning. There was nobody to help give you a golf cart so we just tried to find the cleanest one we could.
We had another tee time scheduled for Sunday ( 1/12) and they told me Friday around noon that they’ve cancelled my tee time due to weather. It’s not supposed to rain, so I called and asked and she said they’re covering the greens. I have no idea why they’d wait until 36 hours before my tee time to tell me this. I could’ve rescheduled to play somewhere else.
The best part about this course is it’s one of the cheapest in Atlanta. And that’s very clear when you arrive at the course. It’s a wide open and very easy course to play, so it’s great for beginners who are okay with playing dirt cheap golf and accepting last minute, totally avoidable cancellations.
I enjoy playing the course. If it was better managed by a competent team, it could have a lot of potential and would even justify raising the price. It’s staffed by uneducated people who seem spaced out, confused, and overwhelmingly unfriendly.
