Decent Course but Pace of Play is Slow
I have played both courses and for the most part the course layout is decent. The course condition for the most part is good. There are holes here and there where the fairways are in rough shape but as much play as the course gets they do a good job of up keeping the course. The greens are challenging and are usually in great shape. However, the main reason why I give this course three stars is because of the pace of play. The pace of play is horrible! Be warned! There are no marshall to enforce pace of play and the pro shop do not spread out the tee times enough to give a proper distance between groups. The times that I have played this course have been during the weekdays and it has taken me close to 5 hours to finish up a round. There are many holes where you will sit and wait because it is backed up. At times there could be as many as three groups on the part 3 waiting to hit. So be warned if you are looking to get out and get a quick round in this course is not for you.
Tee off early to get a quick round. Conditions better than ave for public OC muni. Course more character than mile square. Greens were receptive. Roll is true. I’ll keep playing as my weekly municipal instead of mile square.
Favorite course in OC, the 2 courses are in great shape and there’s nothing better than an early morning round in Costa Mesa.
Everyone at this golf course is very courteous, friendly and helpful except for one individual name Sean.
He is very rude and has a condescendant attitude toward customers. He dislikes on-line booking specially Golfnow and treated us with disrespect because we used on-line booking. He should not be working as a starter and interface with people because he has no customer service skills.
Some people just get it wrong! Sean is one of the nicest guys in the industry! To Sean and everybody at Costa Mesa ! Thanks for all you do ! Your professionalism is unmatched ! Two of the best courses in all of Orange County !! Your work during this covid pandemic has been remarkable! I know your all working your butts off ! Again thanks! Hopefully you can all get out of dodge when this over and go enjoy your family’s for a while ! You been catering to the public now for a couple months ! Your turn !
Much love ! ging
The New Normal
Management & staff are doing a Great Job creating a Safe, Fun & Respectful environment for playing golf. Slowly opening more services (the driving range was open & carts were available) in a sensible way, minimizing the risk of contraction the Covid Virus for both employees & patrons.
I enjoyed my round & applaud their efforts.
The course is in great condition, however...
Part of the new pandemic rules have instilled a section of a foam "Pool Noodle" so the ball doesn't fall all the way down in to the cup as to restrict touching the flag.
They've also removed the benches and rakes in the bunkers. So, the bunkers are in terrible shape with no way for the golfers to rake they're marks in the bunkers.
So, I feel the golf course should be raking the bunkers at least once a day, but some look like they haven't been raked in several days.
A Day On the Links
Los Lagos is a good course for a public facility. Rough is fairly consistent and has thickened this year making it much more difficult than winter play. The pace of play was good. As I understand it the management will be moving tee times closer together which will in all likelihood slow play down and cause longer rounds. This was the main complaint about this course prior to Covid 19. Since the course is doing such a great business I really can't see the purpose of this other than greed. Too bad, they'll probably start losing business again if that's the case.
The course is relatively short but tough
It’s beautiful course and affordable.. worth the money.
Short course par 70 fun to play hard to beat.
Location in town. Easy to get in.
Well managed ....been playing for 3 years now.

fun to play course
I had the luck joining a wonderful flight playing this course the first time. Course is in good shape and not so hard to play, but has nice long holes were you need a decent tee shot. Staff was very friendly and well organized. Overall I had a great afternoon on the golf course and will definitely come back. In fact, booked my next tee time already.
