Excellent Classic Layout

LMGC is a really well designed course. Holes are pretty close together, but the layout doesn't feel too tight. The course has amazing bunkering, redone by Alister MacKenzie in 1929. There's no water on the course, but the greens and traps make things very difficult. Most holes have an elevated green relative to the approach, so it's very tricky to land the ball and get it to stay.

Course was in excellent condition and plays 4h15m. It forces you to play good golf while still being enjoyable to mid handicappers. Very impressed. Hope to be invited back again.

One of San Francisco's treasures

This club rates right up there with the other treasures of San Francisco - the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Golf Club, The Olympic Club, the Giants, the 49ers, etc. It's got a timeless appeal. There's no water on the course to worry about, just severely tilted greens and hilly doglegs through towering trees to test your mettle. It's so playable and enjoyable. It was a hub of activity the day I visited ... World No. 1 Lydia Ko was in town for media day as the defending champion of the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, which returns in April 2015 and again in 2016. A separate meeting was being held in a board room. Joe Montana, a member, was playing golf outside. Yep, just another day at one of America's best big city clubs.
