You get what you pay for….
This course which has great potential if properly maintained was a bit of a disappointment.
All staff encounters were pleasant but feel they know they are facing an uphill battle with little support from ownership or whoever is funding this course.
Fairways were overgrown with clover and bunkers were often water hazards in disguise. Some greens were in excellent condition while others were in sad shape.
Hopefully better days lie ahead but am sceptical this will happen.
RTJ design
Better be on your "A" game, course is tough but fair.
Course needs TLC but played Ok
This RTJ Jr course is an interesting layout northwest of Palm Springs. The clubhouse is decent. Thoughts on the course and experience follow:
Driving Range: Decent turf to hit off. The landing area is desert and visually challenging to know how far you hit the ball.
Course conditions: Lots of weeds throughout the course on fairways and especially the rough. The greens were decent. Sand traps were inconsistent. Many of the fairways are elevated and balls hit off the fairway wind up in collection areas. These can be hit from. Cart paths and surrounding areas are patchy.
Staff: The staff at the course were both informal, friendly and helpful.
Highlights: The 2nd half of the 16th hole is stunning. An absolutely beautiful risk-reward par 5 - well landscaped with desert plants, a waterfall (not running at the time we played) and large pond to the right. The 9th and 18th holes share a gigantic green with about a 7-8 foot big slope between them sloping down to the 18th hole.
Recommendation: Having a hand-held GPS with views of the holes is helpful as several holes have bends in them that wind up bringing desert shrubbery into play if you don't hit it in the right area.
Great course.
We played the course twice. The first time was early in the morning at 7:20 and the second at 12:24. The pace of play in the morning was incredibly faster than the noonish tee-off. Overall, an excellent course.
Reg McConnell
The course is laid out well and challenging. However, the Bunkers have no sand in them mostly mud and water. No dtainage! This needs to be corrected to earn a higher rating.
A bit rough and unkept on the sides
I recommend this course for the better players and not for beginners! The wind is a huge factor on this side of the valley so check conditions first before heading out! The course has a good design and yet feels a bit tight for the length. The greens in good shape and fairly small and elevated. Played in the fall but I recommend calling to ask condition of the course for all the variables like overseeing or sanded greens. The rough is unkept and eats golf balls so bring a few extra for you first time around. The course conditions remind me of the entrance a bit rough on the sides but overall decent being a boulevard entrance it is hard to spot the signs with no warning! Overall a good golfer’s only course for the price this can be subjective and yet the location is in the sorta bad area meaning desert hot springs is mostly for the working class on the windy side of the Coachella valley there are fewer courses on this side. The rain check policy in pretty much no unless bad weather so be prepared to finish or ask to play nine before the add nine if allowed.
Best kept secret
My wife and played this course for the first time, we were really surprised that it is such a well maintained course due to its location . I would highly recommend that all golfers in the valley play this course and experience first hand the quality and beauty of this course .
Typical desert course
Enjoyed playing the course on Veterans Day. No wind really ?? Yes. Course in good condition after the overseeding. Saw lots of native fauna including coyote. No sand in the sand traps. Should be called hard dirt traps. Rough not cut down- could lose your ball in the rough. Worth $129 ?? Probably not. $69 ?? Barely. Good luck
Getting a bad rap!
This course has gotten a very bad rap from the reviews I have been seeing. Granted, I played in early November, so that course was not at all crowded. The staff was super friendly, and the fairways were in fantastic shape. There was only one green That needed work. It was slightly windy which can make the course tough but with a slight dog legs and the adulating fairways it was a really nice test of golf. Truly enjoyed my day as I almost did not play here based on reviews. I’m thinking of coming back with my friends And playing here two or three days in a row
Great Course!
The wind was only 1 or 2 clubs strong, so not an issue.
Very good track
Windy conditions but greens and fairways in very good shape.
Windy course
First 9 holes are unforgiving if you put your ball in the brush. Desert plants just swallow the ball. Greens were twice as slow as I was used to for putting. Took a while to get the weight right.
Played in a Coachella Hurricane
Very windy day, but you take what Mother Nature delivers and play it where it lies. It’s in 10 times better condition than same time last year. Traps need tons of sand to bring them back but they come after greens, tees, and fairways. As with my other reviews, unless you shoot par and under consistently leave everything behind white for someone else. Better to enjoy your round than not. Will return once more this trip when I don’t need to tie a rock to my belt to keep from being blown away!!!
Windy Dunes
Course made very difficult due to the rain but enjoyed my playing partners and the round all the same.
Recovering Well
The course just reopened and was overall in very nice shape. The greens are still recovering and a bit slow and many of the bunkers are still wet or muddy. We enjoy this course and the staff is vey friendly
